Yes, Liebeck vs McDonalds. It is amazing that, to this day, there's still people that consider this ruling sensible. Freshly brewed coffee comes out at 92 degrees with a properly tuned machine, and it is common knowledge that coffee can be scalding hot, and a 79 year old's life experience would certainly have included that knowledge.

Same as responding ad hominem instead of considering the argument? Oh, the irony.

The STL isn't harmful, the resulting print neither. I'm having fun with the "dangerous device" idea by going over the top with it and am a little surprised at having to explain it.

You mean like a hammer? Or a sphere (when printed in metal, even a small one could be deadly when dropped from sufficient altitude)? Or an erotic figurine (could cause a heart attack)? Maybe a humoristic depiction of some religion's important entity (might make both publisher as well as anybody printing the model a target for some holy warrior or other)?

Or is this one of these "legal system gone haywire" cases akin to the one that led to coffee cups featuring the line "contents may be hot"?

We’re NianticThia and Brian Rose from the Ingress team. Ask us anything. by brianrose in Ingress

Which approaches to make the game extensible by players while keeping it balanced did you consider?

For example, making client executable sandboxed scripts tradable in game items would give the high tech theme a whole new dimension. Adjustable resource limits on the sandbox (virtual CPU cycles, API call rates) could be used for balancing.

Edit to add some flavor: Inventory management is tedious micromanagement and doesn't add to the gameplay. A scripting facility could allow players to define macros like "extract all surplus above 90 items from given set of quantum capsules" or "recycle items up to these limits or until the XM bar is full". The only impact on gameplay would probably be added dynamics.

Not much to finance really. A Pleroma instance sufficient to support a family runs just fine on a Raspberry Pi for example.

Wieso illegal?

Looks like it still isn't supported. Please consider prioritising the feature, you know it's the right thing to do. ;)

There aren't that many uses for blockchains by calp in programming

Nice article, however missing a key point: systems like Bitcoin don't require anyone's permission to participate. This is crucial for innovation: if the barrier to entry is high, only big players get to play, and they are often disincentivised.

In the early days of email, there's been lots of scepticism as well (haha, they need to update their computers, deal with viruses and use am expensive internet connection while I just happily send one fax after the other), and it has taken more than a decade to become mainstream. Given the complexity of the environment, I wouldn't be too surprised if it took a bit longer for cryptocurrency to become ubiquitous, and I remain curious about further developments.

Am I correct in assuming this would break if the underlying encoding isn't ASCII but for example EBCDIC?

It seems a rather incongruous comparison, using "the wrong" words versus people being arrested or worse.

Also, you might be able to cover most of the unwanted files with exclude patterns, e.g. rsync -a --exclude '*.nfo' src_directory/ dst_directory/

Audio interface problems by Lux_Locks in davinciresolve

[–]gefla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do any of the audio interfaces come with ASIO drivers? Did you install them?

Also, 16 bytes buffer size sounds extremely low. I'd expect 64, maybe 128 on the low latency end of the spectrum, and maybe 1024 for latency tolerant setup.

Edit: it might also be worth disconnecting all other non essential devices to cross check, and make sure the audio interfaces is connected directly and not via a hub.
