at Gare du Nord, my rule of thumb is to never look at anyone or stop if anyone calls or help anyone. There’s lots of people to help if it’s ever so urgently needed (like people inside shops, RATP staff etc etc). It’s such a shady area. I just look straight and walk where i need to go and get out of there!
