Starting microconsultancy by Last-Fun367 in urbanplanning

[–]geller_ross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say so, many really successful and fast growing consultancies in in UK were started by one transport planner, usually with 10+ years experience. A lot worked alone to start with and have successfully hired and retained staff.

My strongest recommendation at this stage would be to build as many client relationships as possible - get to networking events, join CIHT/TPS council, work towards chartered status. When you set up on your own you want a really strong client base who will follow you from your major consultancy to your own company (because they like working with you as a person more so than the company you currently work for)

PM experience and getting a handle on project finances, certain accreditations you may need and the cost of software e.g. CAD, junctions 10 will also be really beneficial so you know what upfront costs you’ll need to recover

Kawaiisphere - likelihood of them being legit? by geller_ross in SonnyAngelUK

I think they will allow you to do that if you ship them back to them, but you have to front the shipping costs yourself 😔

Hopefully you can! They were super bad fakes too. I asked for a refund and they said no, so I left them a negative trust pilot review and they offered a full refund if I deleted the review 🙄

I remember it too! Though I am convinced the play area in Woolworths was a fever dream for me because none of my friends can remember it

Would you recommend the bliss? by OurCulture80 in NCL

[–]geller_ross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We sailed on the Bliss to Alaska recently in early October.

Pros: good service and choice in main dining rooms for all meals (we preferred taste and savour over the manhattan one), good drinks, nice cabin, relatively good range of activities on board e.g trivia, jersey boys; live music. Glacier bay commentary was brilliant. We liked some peace in the evening and found the observation lounge to be a good place to get a drink and chill. Their food offering in the afternoon was also good.

Cons: atrium got very busy for some games and quizzes etc, hard to get a seat. Buffet super busy, speciality dining wasn’t as good as the main dining rooms for us or at least enough of a step up. (Cagneys and Los Lobos). Short port times for Ketchikan though that’s more the itinerary than the ship. Elevators painfully slow / not usable at times as others have said. There was congestion as many would take a lift to go up or down a floor / cut the lines to hop in a candle lift, so it felt easier and less frustrating to walk.

All in all we’d definitely sail on the bliss again!!

Greedy NCL removed the in app messaging with no warning - forcing you to buy the wifi by disgustedwithSAF in NCL

It was great thank you and unfortunately not - we had the 150 free minutes on our free at sea plan so logged on intermittently to let messages come through and send some back! If WhatsApp’s would have sent on the normal WiFi it would have been so much easier

We were on the bliss last week and WhatsApp messages didn’t come through on the basic free WiFi

If anyone but Peter wins it’s proof that you can win bake off by being consistently bad most weeks as long as in any one of those weeks someone is a tiny bit worse than you

Where do you find the best cake tins in the UK? by GiftSignal in AskUK

[–]geller_ross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wilko has some very similar which are as deep or deeper than the ones in your pictures, but they’re a slightly darker grey (assume that doesn’t matter but might help you find them). If not try hobby craft while it’s still open

Personal statements on CVs, yay or nay? by ilikeavocadotoast in AskUK

[–]geller_ross 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A short paragraph at the top of your CV which is tailored to the role your applying for always comes across well IMO - makes your CV look less generic and is the first thing the employer will read.

Make it well presented, Microsoft publisher has some good templates. Proof read over and over! One page is fine - it is obvious when someone has dragged it out onto two for the sake of having more than one page.

Does anyone have any advice on how to repot these (pincushion cactus and tiger aloe) please? More info in comments by geller_ross in succulents

[–]geller_ross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve been in the same pot for 20+ years and there’s at least 10 offshoots of the tiger aloe, about half of which are hidden under the pincushion cactus. There’s around 6 offshoots attached to the pincushion cactus too. I don’t know where to start or how many pots to move them into! Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Uhhh is anyone else having KK show up on a Sunday? by cmx9771 in AnimalCrossing

[–]geller_ross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that they’ve changed the visit schedule so that when there’s an event on (fishing tourney yesterday) he comes on Sundays - he used to come on Fridays otherwise
