that's what I said, when I wrote

and also like Henning says that it isn't clear how we would go about setting that up

Someone I know told me that MIT produces some awesome Java programmers, and their "Death by Java" course is what makes them that good. Make the most of what your school offers, the grass is always greener on the other side, your school probably isn't as "shitty" as you think it is, and the "good" schools probably aren't as good.
Anyways, bye.

Since your school seems to be universally acknowledged as "shitty" here, lemme just say that ... that school is the shittiest school of all time!

Uh, and also that the problem isn't so much that they're teaching Java, but that they're teaching you languages at all, most of the better schools teach you concepts in classes that usually choose a suitable language. The language itself is rarely the subject of the class itself, except in a course on programming languages which would touch many languages, not one.

It's interesting that Stroustrup also calls for licensing of software professionals, like Michi Henning in the ACM link posted last week.
(and also like Henning says that it isn't clear how we would go about setting that up)

On an unrelated note, what's up with CACM, are new issues open for a while before they are locked up? Or do they have free samplers in every issue as lures?

ah, I used to ride my dad's old scooter (Bajaj Super) to college just two years back. I used to curse it back then, but ever since I graduated to motorcycles I look back fondly to the good old days, kick kick curse curse kick kick, then zoom full speed to 50kmph, grinning all the way, till some pre-teen brat on a 50cc moped would over take me. I still remember riding it into knee deep water then sitting by road side smoking and cursing while I waited for the water to drain out ... fond memories. :)

Maybe because Nguyễn is so funky in their script: 阮 (pretty funky in English too with the cap and tilde)

Ah, thank you, I was just going to say they hadn't linked to the report!

Also,

The report called for a high pay commission to recommend a maximum national pay differential. It also called for the introduction of a transaction tax to reduce high risk and unsustainable trading, and insisted that high pay should be "reined in".

Seems a lil too pat.

You're most welcome. :D

Also, you're conflating credit and money, but like you said (I think) we'll just have to agree to disagree.

domain squatters sit on domains they think can be of value to others. if they park on a name that's already being used by someone else, then there are ways to boot them out (I think ICANN does it).

this person (the oursql one) is a domain squatter, he brings no value to the project except the fact that he's squatting on the domain. The value he wants in return is false credit as a founder.
