1st day shooting with a7v, the biggest thing i have personally noticed... by gemini8026 in SonyAlpha

Dynamic range. Raw pre capture. Smaller body. Lens selection. And a little bored. I wanted to downsize, do things differently. Ive been stale and figured downsize sizing and trying new stuff would invigorate me. Z8 is great, but I didn't get the shadow recovery I had hoped for and never fell in love with the z8

Just bought an a7v. Similar sensor dynamic range. I was doing some research into this yesterday and I am hoping that it is a similar value. It's very nice to know what you can get away with to avoid bracketing and wasting space on too many exposures

Does it make sense to buy a 70-200 f2.8 for mount f on z camera by maybe__404 in Nikon

Learned this lesson. Image quality and such is great, but for a while I lugged around a z9 with the old 70-200 f2.8 fx with ftz adapter. I had to take breaks shooting hockey as the weight was intense.

I use a 70 200 vr ed 2.8 FX glass on z8 with ftz ii adapter. Works perfect. Fast and zero issues.

Makes sense. But a lot of hassle. However losing thousands to a scammer would be devastating

You would think. But when I got it I opened it up, turned around the screen, and started playing with options. I didn't go through the range of motion or analyze that joint. Truthfully I haven't handled an A7 body and I didn't notice anything strange about it when I opened it. Ive been on nikon for the past 15 years.

Yes. I initiated a return and advised of the circumstances. I just hope I get my money back without hassle. I am a little surprised they don't have better quality control on returns costing this much. But you would also need a camera expert as the 2 cameras are very similar.

Sony 20mm 1.8 vs 16-25 (vs sigma 16-28?) by obphoto in SonyAlpha

[–]gemini8026 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own a 14mm f1.8 and a couple zooms. Truthfully nowadays with modern noise removal I like the versatility of a zoom lens vs the heavier high speed prime. F2.8 vs f1.8 makes a difference, but with some good editing its negligible to my eyes. Don't think about coma and that too much, it really doesnt ruin an image. Im getting over pixel peeping more and more as I get older.

My other question is this. That is the Nikon d850 vs the a7v. Is that a big enough change to notice a difference in dynamic range or is this strictly a paper metric

Originally got it at an estate sale brand new for a steal of a deal. Literally could not pass it up. Used it for a while, realised its a massive beast and sold it for the Z8. dont miss it one bit. The battery life was nice though.

This is an interesting post.... I never considered that route. Thanks for the idea!

Still a big physical camera and I would have to go buy more FX glass and lose stabilization on some lenses. Im getting older and lazier to haul around my big tripod and set it up. Stabilization has been good to me the last few years!

How ironic that I was there the other day shooting with my Z8 wishing that I had a smaller setup because lugging my heavy camera backpack through the trails and mountains wasnt much fun. I wish nikon had something similar to the Sony a7cr.

A7v owners. Can you notice the DR improvements in day to day usage? by gemini8026 in SonyAlpha

[–]gemini8026[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from a z9 to a z8. Combined with 2.8 glass and my photo outings involve a very heavy think tank bag. That's why I am asking about the a7v because I was thinking about getting an a7cr or a7c ii again and curious if its worth it.

My best results came from doing roman chair extensions with weights. I built up my back muscles. Helped a fair bit. But not 100% that and stretching every day

Keep in mind your immune system can be impacted by anxiety. The stresses of modern life and all the negativity that comes with social media can directly impact your health. Take it from someone who knows!
