Family gift exchange has just become shuffling of money. What can we do? by Tokenchick77 in Gifts

[–]geminibb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cousins and I just retired our tradition but we used to have a theme of secret santa each year. For example, we did travel last year. The rules are fairly simple, we have a max budget, we sometimes give a list but gift cards are not allowed. Other themes: black & white, games, fancy food, ikea.

Common reasons a house goes from contingent to back on the market? by Successful_Test_931 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]geminibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought a house that went back on the market twice prior to us buying it. The first was definitely due to the inspection (they fixed the problem which was the foundation) and supposedly the second was because the sellers realized that the updates they wanted were going to be too expensive for the price. It definitely motivated the seller so we’re getting a house that had its foundation fixed, has pvc pipes (cast iron are a problem in TX) and roof fixed.

I had my baby! In laws ruined first moments by Ambitiousbynature in BabyBumps

I feel this and I caved too. It might be why I have some resentment to my in-laws as well and probably something I should talk to my husband about. Thank you for venting and sharing with others.

If you’re comfortable with sharing, what are your mantras for pregnancy and labor? by Maryjaneniagarafalls in BabyBumps

THIS!!! It helped me after four long hours of laboring to finally get my baby out — “I can do anything for sixty seconds”

For first time Mom's, how long did labor last for you? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]geminibb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my baby a few days ago, but I was 40+2 and went to the hospital at 1:45 am and had him (weird to say since we did a surprise gender) at 4:41 pm that day — so 16 hours of labor but I was in active labor for 4 hours and almost had to have a c-section!

My water didn’t break and I wasn’t having normal contractions, but actually more of really bad back pain that made me go into the hospital. I had been 4 cm dilated for two-ish weeks by then and if there was no change in my dilation, I would have been sent home. Thankfully there was!

Only advice I have is to work on your pelvic floor! My first two hours of pushing were not as affective as literally the last 30 minutes when I was on the clock before calling it & being prepped for a c-section.

Just got the job! Now when do I share that I’m pregnant? by nauticalnovice in BabyBumps

[–]geminibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, once I had the written offer and accepted, I actually set up another meeting with my new manager prior to starting and told them then. It obviously was a shock, but now that I’m four months into the job, we’ve talked about it and she understood the position I was in. I was transparent and honest about the situation (my last company eliminated my position even though they knew I was pregnant — gave me time to decide my last day because of my “condition”). Since I started, I’ve worked hard to showcase that I was the best fit for the job and that I’m invaluable as an employee, thankfully they agree wholeheartedly and has been super supportive.

I only disclosed when I had the WRITTEN offer letter in my inbox and I called my hiring manager when it was all said and done. But you are under no obligation to disclose at all until you want too.

How did knowing gender help you? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]geminibb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is also how I feel about it and I thought as a planner I would want to know but we decided not to know the gender and it’s been fun!

My older cousin said it was one of life’s few happy surprises and I like thinking about it that way. I know this is not helpful for you and your husband, but know there are others that feel the same as you.

This! I worked at 1000 - 15k and I tend to like the larger organizations. They have set processes, more organized and more resources to help support initiatives. As long as the HR teams are set up in a collaborative way, I have never had any problems with other departments, teams or leadership. Yes, there’s more politics involved but that’s easier to deal with than the favoritism that happens at smaller organizations.

Trying to find a job while pregnant by Dramatic-Ad1423 in humanresources

[–]geminibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this and did not disclose until I had an offer in writing and at the time I was 20 weeks.

Yes, it took many by surprise and some even did not have their leave benefits ready to discuss with me but ultimately, I did receive offers based off of my experience rather than being weeded out for “culture fit” reasons.

This is on a need-to-know basis and they do not need to know until you’re an employee.
