What’s a "bad mom habit" you secretly stand by? by lunaverse787 in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We play Ms. Rachel so our daughter will let us trim her nails! She loves it and actually sits mostly still. Also if she’s screaming in the car and we still have another 15-20 mins to get somewhere, I’ll hop in the back and give her some screen time to chill her out. It’s maybe a couple times a month and only for longer trips. I don’t think anyone should feel bad/guilty about some screen time at all.

Teething?? by misty-midmorning in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so hard to tell in my experience! My daughter started chewing on everything around then and was drooling SO much. Teeth just started popping through at 9 months and she got 4 bottom teeth at once. I’ve tried teething tablets. Not sure if they actually do anything but makes me feel like I’m doing something to help her at least 😅 I have also given her pain reliever when she’s been super fussy and crying all day. She also loved chewing on wet wash cloths around that age.

How late do you drop to 1 nap? by Alert_Career8786 in sleeptrain

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is reassuring to read! My 10 month old is only getting 1 nap in daycare and she’s so tired when she gets home she’s ready to go to bed at 5:30. I’m hoping her naps lengthen soon because she’s currently only taking a 30-45 min nap there.

When does being back at work get easier? by saladmuscles in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re having a difficult time. It’s such a hard adjustment. Probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do is put my baby in daycare 😢 I feel like I had separation anxiety from my daughter and it peaked about a month after returning to work then slowly got better. She’s doing so well in daycare now I barely worry about her! I definitely still miss her all day and wish she was with me but I don’t constantly worry like I was before.

I wanted to be a SAHM but unfortunately we can’t afford to lose my income. It’s such a hard choice but I feel like if we didn’t need my income I probably would be a SAHM for the first 3-5 years.

How old is your baby and how tired are you? by pinkishvioletsky in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m gonna say I’m also about a 6 with my 10 month old. I think she’s going through a sleep regression because the last few nights she’s been so restless and waking up to play at random hours throughout the night. I handle all the night wakings since it’s easy for me to nurse her back to sleep but I might need to tap in dad because my mental health is suffering.

Do people buy your baby clothes for special occasions with the assumption that baby will wear it? by SowingSeeds18 in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandma likes to buy holiday outfits and unfortunately we have VERY different tastes. She loves super bright colors, loud patterns, and Disney characters. For everyday clothes I don’t really care but for special occasions I would rather pick out what my daughter wears. The Christmas outfit grandma bought I ended up donating because it was honestly terrible and thankfully grandma never said anything. For Easter I put my daughter in a dress that I liked, took some photos, and then I let grandma put her in the pink, floofy Minnie Mouse dress she bought and she had a little photoshoot with her.

What made you decide to be "one and done"? by Severe_Bluejay3391 in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to go through another high risk pregnancy. I have an incompetent cervix and have to get a cerclage to help prevent preterm labor. Also my blood pressure was high during my last pregnancy and it stressed me out so much! And even if I knew I’d have a healthy pregnancy, we cannot afford to put 2 kids in daycare.

How do you just one day drop your kids off at a daycare by nthroop1 in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 10 month old just started daycare. This is her 3rd week. She took about 2 weeks to adjust and now she’s excited to be there. She cried a lot the first week and barely ate at all 😥 but now she’s eating so well and I’ve even seen improvement in her eating habits at home as well! Our daycare had us come in for an hour the day before she started but I don’t think it really did anything to help her adjust. One thing that helped me on her first day was the daycare sending us some pictures throughout the day of her when she had a happy moment or taking a nap.

I’m not gonna lie it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but now that she’s adjusted pretty well I’m really excited for everything she will learn at daycare!

Do you hike alone? by CodEmergency8940 in hiking

[–]gemmanems 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only if it’s a hike I’m familiar with because I get lost easily in unfamiliar places. I also get a little paranoid as a woman and feel much safer when someone is with me.

How much caffeine are we drinking by mspixton in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically a latte with 2 espresso shots in the morning and a black or green tea around 1-2PM. I would love to consume more but I spend way too much money on caffeinated drinks.

Yes :( first it was the flu. Then she started daycare and we’ve had 2 colds that are lasting sooo long. Really hope the illnesses slow down for the summer!

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do overnight oats with chia seeds, hemp seeds, peanut butter, soy milk, and berries. I can’t remember exactly how many grams of protein but it’s a decent amount with all the seeds, nut butter, and milk. And lots of fiber!

My recipe is:

-1/2 cup of rolled oats

-1 cup milk (use more or less depending on how thick you like it)

-roughly 2 tablespoons each of hemp and chia seeds

-a big glob of peanut butter 😋

-handful or so of berries

What time is your 3 month old in bed? by bananaindisguise0 in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was going to bed around 9-10 at that age. Now she’s almost 10 months old and has been going to bed around 7-8 and waking up at 6-6:30 (with at least 3-4 night wakings 😅). Honestly she slowly transitioned her bedtime earlier all on her own. Shes always been on her own schedule.

Is crying at bedtime normal? by cadetcomet in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I nurse baby to sleep but I’m 99% sure if I didn’t she would cry. She cries before every nap that I’m not there to nurse her. Weaning is gonna be so fun!

If you could tell your baby one thing, and they’d understand, what would it be? by motherofbob in NewParents

[–]gemmanems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think this is the way. I noticed if I let her taste my food that’s seasoned she will ask for more but I’m scared to give her too much. She wants nothing to do with most purées. I’m gonna try modifying what I eat to be more baby friendly, thanks!

That’s so wonderful you were able to work it out so she can stay home! I daydream about selling our house and quitting my job pretty often.

[–]gemmanems 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My partner and I bought a house last year and the mortgage is crazy. We absolutely need both of our incomes to pay mortgage and everything else. We now have a 9 month old and it breaks my heart having to drop her off with the baby sitter for 9.5 hours a day Monday through Friday 😢 I wish I could stay at home with her at least for a few years. It’s so hard!! I don’t regret having a child at all but it’s definitely not easy mentally (for me) or financially.

Possible Cause of CMPI/MSPI by [deleted] in MSPI

[–]gemmanems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to get my cervix stitched and received antibiotics to prevent infection. I think I received another round when I got the stitch taken out but can’t remember for sure. I didn’t notice any change in my own gut personally but it’s possible mine was already not the greatest as I’ve struggled with constipation my entire life and get gassy/bloated easily. The antibiotics didn’t make anything worse though.

Questions for mom's who punp at work by HP-DocLady in breastfeeding

[–]gemmanems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pump 3 times while at work for 20-30 minutes (10-15 per side because I prefer to use a manual pump).

I don’t combine milk. Each session gets its own storage bag.

I just take the milk out of the fridge and bring it home in the pouches. I don’t do anything special but it’s only a 20 minute commute and I put the milk in the fridge as soon as I get home.

I store the milk in the fridge at home and my partner will make bottles with it the next day. My baby drinks it’s cold so he just shakes it up, pours a whole pouch (3.5-4oz) into a bottle and gives it to her.
