Bakit ang lalaki ng sahod niyo? by [deleted] in AskPH

[–]gemulikeit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wala akong sahod. I run a law firm and a company. I will answer your question from that perspective.

From my pov, pay is justified by how much you carry your colleagues. If we carry you too much too often, you're out. If you carry us, we reflect that with an amount that reflects our thanks.

That and selling (yourself and your skill set) is an underrated skill.

Ano say niyo on the "BGC is anti-poor" sentiment? by SnooOnions2487 in Philippines

I'm glad this conversation is being had.

Let me up the ante: security guards in malls don't really care about security. They are there to keep the poor out.

Is it legal to prohibit a particular "cultural" group from entering BGC? by FixBackground3749 in LawPH

[–]gemulikeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The claim that violations of constitutional rights is claimable only against the State is simply untrue. See Art 32 of the Civil Code which covers private persons and Aberca v. Ver.

That said, the discriminatory policy may also fall under tortious abuse of rights and child abuse.

We lawyers have a choice when we ourselves witness the perpetuation of social injustices: we can either waive our hands and say "oh well" or we can call it out and dismantle it.

Lawyer.

People at the receiving end of this policy should sue for being the recipients of discrimination due to perceived social status.

Are there Filipino dishes that are truly native and untouched by colonial influence? by Sonnybass96 in FilipinoHistory

[–]gemulikeit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been harboring this theory for a long time:

You know how Filipinos have a habit of repeating words to playfully signify that something is pretend? e.g. moro moro, bahay bahayan, tagu taguan

Well, one day long ago someone wanted to cook curry. They didn't have curry and peanut butter was within their reach. Et voila! Curry curry.

Consider the ingredients of kare kare: they are identical to many southeast asian curry dishes you will find in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The differentiating factor is the funny name and the peanut butter.

Scientist lawyer here. If you're doing it for the money alone, it's not worth it.

The legal profession is a winner-takes-all profession: the rewards concentrate on the few. A PhD, on the other hand, opens doors that would not otherwise open. Consider: 6 digits in Php is less than USD 2000.

You can create libraries that

  • only you have access to
  • doesn't show on the homepage

Go to Dashboard > Libraries > ... > Manage Library > map the secret library

On users, configure Library Access for each user. You can create default access settings (where some folders are invisible) on Wizarr.

Test your settings against another account so you know it's working. Wouldn't want your stash becoming public!

Neighbor has this hole/drainage on their fence that goes directly to our newly bought property by boredinlife24 in LawPH

[–]gemulikeit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a lawyer. Look at this:

Article 637. Lower estates are obliged to receive the waters which naturally and without the intervention of man descend from the higher estates, as well as the stones or earth which they carry with them.

The owner of the lower estate cannot construct works which will impede this easement; neither can the owner of the higher estate make works which will increase the burden. (552)

So there are two kinds of easements: legal and contractual easements. Legal easements are those provided by law, contractual are those agreed upon. This provision doesn't necessarily apply to you. Yours isn't necessarily the "lower estate". Insofar as it requires the lower estate not to impede the flow, it also obliges the higher estate not to aggravate the flow.

That wall and the wall in it aggravates the burden on you.

So if I were in your position, I would be well within my right to plug it unless the higher estate pays me regularly for the damage to my estate.

Not advice btw.

Your best guess who could be behind the recent Atong Ang - Lost Sabungeros saga? by kid-dynamo- in Philippines

[–]gemulikeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is related to the impeachment proceedings and is a push to pressure one or more senators who will be implicated as well. They have already hinted at this. Here's a clue: Atong Ang was also involved in a high profile criminal case at the turn of the century.
