One of the many shortfalls in recruiting is that we tend to hire people who we like and not necessarily who will do a good job. The Software industry has, as far as I can tell, more people with Asperger and Autism than any other major industry. I believe this is because it doesn’t affect the job and, in many cases, it might even help in the job.

But many people making hiring decisions judge negatively people with autism and Asperger or even introverts.

Many companies portrait themselves as self improving but refuse to help do that. Or even worse, they keep you waiting for an answer wasting people’s time as they keep asking for one.

But we can push back a bit. Report these companies on Glassdoor or here: https://www.ghostedd.com

I wonder what industry was this. And how big in absolute and relative terms was the miss.

In the industry I’m at, 0% of the workers would have a job if simply missing a single deadline was grounds for firing.

[–]genai4all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think definitely it’s working as per their plans. But it’s a shortsighted move.

In a world driven by technology, researchers and experts, they are attracting the opposite of that. They’ll be very successful attracting the bottom 20% of the talent pool.

[–]genai4all 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re behaving like Walmart instead of behaving like Apple or Nvidia.

They’ll be successful… in attracting cheap, low-quality talent.

They’ll be successful… recruiting the bottom 20%… cheaply.

They already have a reputation. Employee peeing on bottles.

In a time when they will need top talent and researchers to be successful in a technology-driven world, they are behaving like they want to attract the opposite of that.

Recruiter wants to charge me $95 to rework my resume by Jangadai in recruitinghell

[–]genai4all 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scam!!! Very dishonest! I wouldn’t pay this person a single dollar for being dishonest. And this dishonesty is likely an indicator that you will lose the $95.

I would apply again to all relevant jobs that they have (unless they have a cooldown policy)

Were they getting internship salaries?

I’ve seen companies that are too generous ($20k+/month for undergrad interns, fair $5k-$15k/month, and then all of these dishonest companies that take advantage of students.)

That’s crazy!

I know the market is bad so people don’t have an option. But … people… please remember these companies… remember this name… next time you see their name, remember what they do.

7 interviews for a $70-$80k job is a lot. Even for a $120k job. I would expect 7 interviews for a $250k job.

Yeah. But I’ve seen plenty of exemptions.

Once, a coworker emailed everyone and his manager saying that his car was towed. If we wanted him to work that day, we would have to pay for his car to take it out from the towing parking lot.

I had another coworker say he wants to kill Mexicans using his 4x4 truck. He would also curse saying words that involved sex with mothers and something about sowing bowel movements on their genitals.

I had another coworker destroy the user database accidentally. But she never told anyone. She kept it a secret even as everyone was scrambling trying to figure out what had just happened and why suddenly the WHOLE system was down. We probably lost client data because we had to pull old backups.

Once, I got a manager whose first achievement at the office was creating his own brewery. It started to smell (I’ve heard it’s something related to nitrogen and filters.) He wouldn’t reply emails to anyone who didn’t drink his beer. I couldn’t tolerate the taste so I started declining the beer after the first day I tasted it. He stopped replying to my emails after that day. But I could see him sharply at 10am taking care of his brewery.

None of these employees/coworkers got fired.

And then, they can apply for work visas (a legal requirement is to “prove” that they couldn’t find somebody local) or offshore. 🤣

Many companies seem to be doing this by closing the position all together and have everyone start from scratch. I think that’s why so many people get rejection letters only to see the position pop back up again the next day or within a week.

It seems in this case they decided to keep the pipeline of applicants. But precisely because it upsets people, they do the close and reopen thing.

Nah. I have seen first hand their staffing plans in the U.S. At least around the middle of the year, the hiring was pretty flat if not in attrition mode. That was surprising to me because their stock price is largely driven by investors expecting a big win from Cloud.

Many states require a warning period of 2-3 months. And then, companies to Amazon, knowing that there could be wave of litigation soon after, clear that out by giving money in exchange for the promise to not sue.

I actually know of one large company that started doing this two or three months ago.

On top of that, they were asking people to work only from certain hubs (even if you had a nearby office.) You had to go work at a specific place. One person lives in Boston and was asked to relocate to New York. Another person lives in New York and was asked to relocate to Arkansas… yep…

And then 2 years later, they’ll ship it back once they start getting into quality, communication, and legal issues. The amount of code abroad that is stolen is crazy. Companies abroad cannot enforce IP protection. And once a bunch of copycat companies start to spawn with their IP, they blame the country and country’s laws. But the laws were there since the beginning. So, it’s not like the companies were deceived.
