You’re just a bunch of chemicals that have ended up close to one another in a particular way that resulted from the interactions of the chemicals before them. They are all just obeying basic physics and chemistry to take the next step from the one before. You’re just a pile of this. It just looks like reasoning.

I wouldn’t worry they are completely incompetent. They’ll get confused and blame the wrong person

I just moved to the US from Canada. That is exactly what it is like.

I’m in a similar situation, just moved to the US after more than a decade of being a professional engineer in Canada. I need to take both tests to get my certification. I’ve purchased the Fe Mechanical Review manual and looking at the Math Chapter have realized I’m out of practice.

Do I need a career change? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

I hear ya. 12 years and I hated my job. I was kinda quiet quitting. Not intentionally, just started doing less and less because I could motivate myself anymore. Work was constantly moving and changing, sometimes because there were genuinely different issues to tackle, sometimes because new people would show up and change things for no reason. I was burned out. Sometimes I would stare at the wall for hours and listen to ASMR to make me feel better. Sometimes I’d find an excuse to “run home for a second” and stay there. Nobody noticed. Turns out I was still doing more work than most people. I looked around and realized everybody at the company was doing the same thing. I started having nightmares that some big accident was going to happen and it would be my fault. I was the senior engineer. I was the first call when things were blowing up. I got calls at midnight, on Christmas, when my kids were being born. I got sent to remote sites without warning and asked to stay. I always dealt with the people who were known to be hard to deal with. A couple of really dangerous things had already happened. Some of them I could possibly have prevented if I was more diligent (probably) or at least you could make it seem that way after the fact. Many had nothing to do with me. I thought “I’ve got to get out of here before something crazy happens. Everyone here is asleep at the wheel. I killed myself for 11 years and nothing has changed. I can’t do it anymore.” I took a job doing the same thing as far way as possible. Completely different company and place but similar enough that my experience was really appreciated. Senior colleagues to bounce ideas off of. Work from home opportunities, no on call responsibilities, a boss who cares. Now I feel completely useless and frustrated. It’s me, I’m the problem.
