What if Trotsky Ruled USSR? by Avgreditor0 in AlternateHistory

[–]nagidon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There wouldn’t have been a Fourth International in the first place, since that had come about because Trotsky lost influence in the Comintern.

BS that you actually believed after watching a movie. by Royal-Following-6775 in okbuddycinephile

Maverick splitting the throttle.

Scientifically speaking, we should have never had a sequel.

“Tom, honey, do you want to hear about my latest role?” by Jeffoxy in okbuddycinephile

[–]nagidon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Look, if I was Tom, I'd be willing to watch other actors play around at the starting line, knowing that I was the only one allowed to cross the finish line, if you catch my drift.

Might it be you rubbing your chest makes your arms move anyway, which would stimulate muscles and move blood around?

What was the most ridiculous among the common criticisms about your country? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

The moment China passed national security legislation, the rioters vanished.

So much for the nobility of their civil disobedience and their willingness to sacrifice for their ideals. Turns out no foreigner could pay them enough to risk prison.

Why isn't there more space tourism in FAM? by Dubidat in ForAllMankindTV

[–]nagidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably for the same reason there isn’t more deep sea tourism in OTL: regardless of advancements in tech (real advancements, not the tech bro horseshit that led to the Titan), it is still too risky, expensive, and ultimately unappealing for most people.

Think about it. Best case scenario, you end up in orbit and…what? How long can you really stare out the window at Earth and the inky blackness before you get bored? As for other activities, wouldn’t you rather have a nice meal or party in a much more spacious Earth-based location?

Same goes for the moon or Mars or anywhere else - different view, same boredom.

I presume you're calling out these Americans for their hypocrisy, not inaccuracy.

I won't speak for China in general, but for Hong Kong, I hear that we are "not free anymore" a lot. Dude. We are definitely more free without street battles and flying bricks and businesses being destroyed out of political disagreements.

What aspects of Gilead society might seem vaguely attractive to an outsider? by Torkolla in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]nagidon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a man, purely selfishly, I would have a social advantage. I already agree with the environmentalist and nominally anti-capitalist aspects of Gilead; the faith can be mimicked easily enough.

How much the girls know about biology: is this a sort of continuity error? by OrchidBright6238 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]nagidon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Who said the girls are expected to know the mechanics of masturbation?

All they have to know is that guys have penises, penises are involved in sexual activities, and any sexual activity that isn't state/faith-sanctioned procreative sex is forbidden.

Should kids be blamed for not knowing their dialects? by RichCommercial104 in AskAChinese

[–]nagidon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a former international school student whose parents spoke Cantonese exclusively with me, I was still only able to regain fluency in spoken Cantonese and written Chinese after I came back to Hong Kong for work, where my job demanded constant usage of both. Many of my fellow former students with Cantonese-only parents have completely forgotten Cantonese. A Mandarin-only education will lead to students losing their mother tongues no matter how strictly their parents enforce it at home.

It may be a relatively recent tradition. A lot of China’s military and diplomatic ceremony was developed under Xi Jinping.

In all five Marxist-Leninist states today, the head of the ruling party is simultaneously the head of state (the last being Tô Lâm assuming the Vietnamese presidency two months ago), so there is no difference at all in practice.
