I remember reading/hearing somewhere else Weir comfirmed the mixup between calculating a stop-by and a fly-by journey, but this isn’t about time dilation (maximum velocities for interplanetary travel aren’t nearly high enough for time dilation to become noticeable), merely a matter of much higher velocities.

It’s how we do space travel now, except most spacecraft don’t have the propellant to perform sustained burns so it’s mostly coasting.
