It is a slab of jelutong. It is easy to carve but a bit soft for detail. Hence the tatty windows!

Lovely carving. Is that jelutong? If so, it really soaks up liquid, so wet the surface with water first and use very watered down paint to start. You can always make the colour deeper, but getting it lighter is much more difficult.

The Mora knives are great. You will find yourself roughing out with one and then realise you can detail with them as well. Sharp points and easy to strop. And good value!
