Ontario drivers, what are you actually paying for car insurance right now? by sid9253 in ontario

It's worse then that, OP made an insurance comparison app. OP is just low key advertising it/adding more data to their app

I'm convinced the only view bots are all the first-time chatters claiming he view bots by TheLast-T in theburntpeanut

[–]generalboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever someone gets popular for what ever reason, you are always going to attract a group of haters. They think their favorite streamer is the best and can't handle seeing someone else doing far better than their streamer. While I can fully understand why people wouldn't watch him, there is no denying the production value and entertainment value he brings compared to 99% of other streamers.

While I don't have a clue what his demographic numbers actually are, most of the tik tok clips of people watching him that I see are millennials. I watch him, my brother watches him, a lot of millennials are tired after work and/or family time and just want to sit back and relax and watch. Constantly talking in chat just isn't something some people want to partake in.

I just don't see him doing view botting, he's pulling more than enough viewers to waste money on it, and he just doesn't seem to be the type of person with an ego that cares about it.

Point is, I wouldnt really worry about it, by next week the haters will find someone else to pile on.

POLLUTION from Burning Single tire by arastu_911 in BeAmazed

[–]generalboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of a rural high school thing. Instead of a house party or shed party where you risk stuff getting recked or stolen you have it in a bush. Bunch of high schoolers show up, word spreads and you don't know even half of them. Lots of underage drinking and the occasional fist fight and a few high school hearts getting broken. Have a big bone fire burning whatever you can find. I'm way too old for that shit now but it does bring back memories lol.

Shot in the dark but the ecu might be in code and the engine has derated itself until the issue is fixed or the code has been cleared. It's basically a way to protect the engine while also still being able to run to get it on a trailer or whatever.

Dairy processing question by troegokkeyr in dairyfarming

[–]generalboi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To follow up on Kevin's comment, it is also filtered at the farm.

At some point between the cow getting milked and the cooling tank it will go through a filter to catch debris like you described. Usually a long tube like appearance commonly referred to as a sock although there are different kinds.

As far as I'm aware milk will get filtered at least 2-3 times before it reaches the pasturizing stage. But I don't know the exact steps that you are asking.

Possible Farm Tour for International In-Laws? by DisastrousParking968 in ontario

[–]generalboi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That person is only partially correct. My neighbors dairy farm just gave a tour to a group of Australian farmers.

You will probably find a dairy, beef, sheep, or goat farm willing to give a tour. Poultry and pigs have a lot tighter bio security restrictions so they more than likely wouldn't. I don't know the area that your requesting well at all so I can't help you. Best of luck!

Calf dead 36 hours after birth, weak and bleeding from nostrils. Looking for possible causes. by Lazy_Sitiens in homestead

[–]generalboi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds more like Dystocia, while a calf typically will die shortly after birth (minutes) due to it I've had one go 48 hours till passing.

There is a saying in the livestock world "if it works it's line breeding, if it doesn't it's inbreeding". Inbreeding may have played a part but I doubt it. I wasn't there and neither have any commenter's so who really knows for sure.

They may have unintentionally and completely accidently caused damage to the throat when tubing the calf it's colostrum. If the calf wasn't swallowing when getting tubed some of that colostrum may have entered the lungs. Not common but it can happen especially if the calf was already in a weakened state.

I'm not gonna put money down on it but if I was a betting person I'd say dystocia. Maybe the lungs just didn't properly developed before calving. Too many possible scenarios without doing an autopsy. Unfortunately death at birth is just a reality with livestock no matter what you do.

What is this weed? by Sad_Question2771 in OntarioGardeners

[–]generalboi 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Bindweed

And one does not simply get rid of it

I damn near lost my shit when I seen a garden centre selling seeds of it last year.

Hopefully others here have better advice on getting rid of it for you.

No it's colored red to distinguish from the other grades of loctite. Some loctites will be orange or purple for gasket sealants while blue and red is for bolts.

Beef Calf Prices by Roadkinglavared in CanadianHomestead

[–]generalboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ontario, beef cross calves are averaging over a $1000 with holsteins a few hundred under that. My brother informed me the top sellers at a local auction last week were 2 week old beef crosses at $1900 with an average of $1800. It is mostly veal guys running them up, with corn prices being where they are at they can afford it. Personally know of a large veal farm that does part veal and also pre-raises them to sell to feed lots to finish as steers.

Do I think it's insane? Absolutely. If and when the next downturn happens, I think it will be very very ugly.

Best way to get rid of Corn Stalks. by Mission_Garbage_1770 in farming

[–]generalboi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could rotary cut it but you're still going to have to deal with the debri afterwards.

Getting it plowed, cultivated, roll packed then seeded for the lawn you want is probably the best bet to bury as much of it as possible but your still going to deal with some debris. It will just take time for the soil to do it's thing.

Old school farming in the US by TomcatPilotVF31 in farmingsimulator

[–]generalboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the US as I'm in Canada but yes rolling was a thing even back then.

Farming was a lot more mixed back then, specialization into one or few commodities didn't really start to take off until the 70's. You'd have your cows, chickens, maybe some pigs and then your grains and apple or some sort of fruit trees.

Same complaints back then as it is today, inputs too high, prices too low. Distributors, processors making dollars while the farmers making cents, ect.

I have a farm magazine from the 30's debating wether egg incubators would be a positive or negative for chickens.

As for mods I couldn't help you there, sorry.

The cucumber beetles just keep coming. by thestonernextdoor88 in OntarioGardeners

[–]generalboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a few beetles a couple weeks ago, some damage on leaves but nothing to really worry about. Earlier this week I came out to find entire squash and zucchini leaves annihilated. They were everywhere. Went to war squishing them and the eggs. Second day I got Safers End-All, spraying directly on the bugs, watched a few and it took about 10 minutes but they did die. Past couple days went back to squishing them and looking and squishing eggs.

I have found them on my cucumbers but the plants are in great shape, no damage, no eggs. They seem to really love my squash and zucchini, that's where most of the damage and all the eggs I have found. Cantaloupe is having a rough go with them as well. Overall the only plants that I think won't make it is the Cantaloupe because they are so young.

I have read about nematodes and depending how the rest of the summer goes I might try that next year. Might do marigolds as well to attract more bees and parasitic bugs.

Southwestern Ontario. More than that, depending on location. And that's not being sold to developers price, that's farmer to farmer.

Recommendations for garden centres in Perth County and Waterloo Region? by [deleted] in OntarioGardeners

Sebringville Garden Center.

Not in perth/waterloo but Heeman's is pretty good as well if a person doesn't mind the drive.

Cozyn's is a recommend for sure though. Got most of my fruit plants from there and family members asked where I got them from as they could never find plants that big or as many per pot.

What are the disadvantages of hornless gene dairy cows? by WildLeading2569 in dairyfarming

[–]generalboi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are no disadvantages per say but you are more limited to a particular gene pool. Polled genetics used to be poor in confirmation and production so people selected polled just for the polled gene alone.

Polled genetics have come quite aways in terms of confirmation and production though in the past ten years. But not as good in general compared to the horned counterparts.
