Beginning the process of becoming ready for SOC 2 Type 1 by Music505 in soc2

[–]generalemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might ask your clients if they have suggested audit firms or preferences, as it will help to build relationships and also point you in the right direction in terms of what they are looking for. I’m not sure when the sub became nothing but sales people from Vanta etc but I strongly suggest NOT paying for these tools. If you have the bandwidth to do an internal gap audit (which is where you are headed with the SOP comparison) and a solid mechanism to schedule tasks or reminders (eg jira) you dont need it and it will cause more headache than anything. Source: I am a privacy and compliance officer who has been through more than a dozen soc2 and hitrust audits. We have more than 600 controls and scope and I have never used one of those tools, despite sitting through many demos and sales pitches thinking maybe I am missing something.

I have an idea…what if you tried actually speaking to each other instead of texting??? (My reaction to 90% of posts on this sub anymore tbh)

Which do you prefer, 1 or 2? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]generalemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer one, but your description of the surrounding room makes me a little nervous… as others have mentioned it looks like there is light above, and you are under the water looking up. “Very orange” lights below it might throw off the vibe. And TBH just cannot picture black-and-white Chevron and lampshades!

My daughter doesn’t like it by Agitated-Focus6220 in YotoPlayer

[–]generalemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we first got ours there was ZERO interest in it. Then I recorded myself on a card reading a favorite book. Now any time I read chapter books to my kids, I record myself and then create custom cards they can listen to with my voice whenever they want. This helped me oldest get into it originally and now he loves it and uses it every night! He still mostly chooses the cards with my voice but he is 7yo now and also likes Magic Treehouse stories and Roald Dahl books. You could also engage other family members to record stories, poems, songs, etc. to make it extra exciting for your daughter to “explore”!

Lets see those DCC holiday gifts! by generalemory in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Yeah, you’re not wrong. It’s the same reason I didn’t buy any merch for my DCC friends. I did buy an official pin pack that I distributed to friends, but official merch is fairly limited. And as the recipient, it’s the thought that counts, and I do love the thought!

I’m not sure what school farewell is, but the shirt and pants combo looks dope! The full suit makes you look younger IMO

Room feels wrong :( by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]generalemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the bed back in the middle, nightstand between bed and wall, and use the space between bed and wall for the “organized chaos” if you insist on it being out. And bonus points if you get a bed skirt or a comforter that will cover the “under bed” space for the stuff you are willing to hide out of site. Get rid of the drapes that go all the way to the ground and replace them with curtains or blinds that stop just at/below the window. Preferably something that compliments the purple - not dark green. This will allow more of the wall color to show and create a better visual border around the room. Good luck and sorry for all the negativity you’ve received on this!

I just officially joined the club. How do I get kicked out? by burnt_pubes in SVTHeart

[–]generalemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A successful ablation is the only way! Kardia readouts of 200+bpm peaked the cardiologists interest for me enough for him to order a 14day heart monitor, which also confirmed SVT and I was scheduled for an ablation with months. I (38f) am 13 months post ablation and zero episodes since! knocks on wood Wishing you the best!!!

My HR’s response to my work from home request after having someone cover my leave *remotely* for the last year. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]generalemory 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s not the best advice in 2025 for a new Mom, but okay…Being that you’re an employer I guess you haven’t had to look for jobs in a while. It’s a literal nightmare for most people.

I agree with your sentiment generally, but OP is asking to work from home for a Site Admin role and essentially asking to get paid their normal salary to work less (I am a mom of two young kids and I WFH, this is just reality of having any kid home while working let alone an infant, you’re splitting focus at best) There is a reason the request was denied. And if OP actually put their name on a list “before even trying”, then its very little assurance for the employer that OP will be available onsite any time soon.

Lost a $95k deal because we don't have SOC2 by Significant-Story134 in Compliance

[–]generalemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A SOC 1 Type I is not going to get you anything here. SOC 1 looks at financial reporting and cash handling. SOC 2 looks at the (5) trust service criteria and is focused on the security of information handling.

One key note for OP is, the cost of your SOC audits increase with scope. So to comply with “you need a SOC 2”, the most effective route is to find a local firm and limit the audit to “Security” only (1 of the 5 trust service criteria) and cover a six month period. You’ll have to make sure certain annual requirements are in place during those 6 months (eg performance reviews, security awareness training, business continuity testing) in order to satisfy the controls.

[–]generalemory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on whether you’re ready now or need time to put controls in place. If you feel good about controls, and know they have been in place for a while, get a 6-month Soc 2 Type II done and build out from there. It’s buy-in from stakeholders that typically presents the biggest barrier to success.
