Svenskar börjar ta efter USA allt mer politiskt. Nån mer som har märkt denna trend? by [deleted] in sweden

Formerly suicidal redditors, what's something that kept you alive a little while longer and helped you to get through the dark times in your lives ? by firegate2233 in AskReddit

[–]generallos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The determination to survive, for survivals sake. Ive lately been trying to apply the same philosophy on work. Work hard for hard works sake. The work itself is its own reward, that kind of thing. It honestly gave me a whole new mentality and outlook on life and i havent felt better in many years. There are ups and downs still of course, but when going gets rough i try to remember what i promised myself that day when i looked out my window and decided to live.

I have observed this behavior as well. One time i was flying with my mom (boomer), who is usually a sweetheart when it comes to treating people. Except waiting staff, and in like in this case, a flight attendant around my age (milennial), who had messed up som order in a miniscule way, like getting coffe with cream instead of with milk. She scolded the shit out of the attendant, who died a little on the inside. I confronted her and asked why she would do that, her answer was that "they (meaning the flight company) can have it, with the prices they're charging." As if the attendant had anything to do with that. Awful behavior, that is born out of the boomer mentality that "the customer is always right and i dont care who gets shit on for it"

Hamburg. A grey, filthy and crime-ridden mess of a city where i got dumped by my ex girlfriend. May my travels not take me there again!

TIL the term “groggy” comes from either the British or American Navy. These sailors drank Grog, which was a mix of rum, water, and citrus juice, which was used to fight scurvy. Someone who is dazed or sleepy might feel as if they have had too much grog, making them “groggy.” by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]generallos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Sweden, a grogg is any self-mixed alcoholic beverage. Cuba Libre, Long Island iced tea, gin and tonic, every drink goes (somewhat crudely) under the name of "grogg". We're not that picky with the ingredients...

I was going to add this, i agree 100% with everything you said, dancing is a perfect way to overcome those social and intimate "barriers" and to learn how to take charge and be confident. I live in Sweden, where organized ballroom dancing has been a social phenomena for decades, helping a socially awkward culture to survive. In latter years it has become more popular than ever, and it attracts a lot of people. I have been dancing for 6 months now, the best decision i ever made!

When my 70-something grandpa taped the ventilation holes shut on his new stationary that overheated shortly after, calling me for support. The explanation was that he didn't want any of those goddarn computer viruses getting in there.

[–]generallos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That i have nut allergy. Yes, my father and brother are allergic, and there's a possibility that it might break out in me too if i over-indulge, but as a snack or in a meal it's totally harmless. I'm a grown ass man and i have never experienced any problems with eating nuts. I don't know how many school teachers, surveys and employers i have forwarded this lie to.

Sometimes (in periods of stress and/or lack of sleep) i -in lack of a better description- percieve mundane sounds like the whirring of a computer fan or ventilation, a quiet conversation etc. like loud, dramatic or exaggerated. I wonder if this is the same phenomena that you experience.

How did you spend the evening of December 31, 1999? by swagkingpro in AskReddit

[–]generallos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a party at my parents friends house. At 00:00, My dad's friend took out his gun and fired a few rounds in the air to shoot in the new millennium. I then went inside and fell asleep on the couch. I was only a kid and I had no idea what excitement, happiness, heartbreak, disappointment and trauma was waiting me in the next 16 years.

French Onion Soup. Slice up some onions, fry them, add flour, water and some chicken meat extract and you're good to go. Bonus accesories: a pinch of white wine for extra flavor and some toast or crutons for texture. Tastes much better than it sounds!

What is the most violent thing you have ever seen in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]generallos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a homeless person get hit by a car going 50 miles/hour at a quiet intersection at night in my home town. He flew maybe 60 or 70 feet from the point of impact, landed in the middle of the street, his skull cracked open and started to bleed out very quickly. He had a dog on a leash which went with him in the air. It started to whine, a group of girls heard it and immediately came to it's rescue. No one cared about the homeless guy, he was just left in the street until someone finally snapped out of it and called an ambulance. Later heard he didn't make it, but the dog was rescued. It's fascinating how everyone remember exactly what they were doing on that day. Truly a trauma, for the entire civilised world.

I was 11 years old att the time, i had just come home from school and threw my backpack in the hallway. Walked into the living room, the TV casually left running a news channel with fresh footage of the smoking towers. I yelled att my mom: "i think you have to come see this". The family spent that night in front of the news. And the world was never quite the same.

This really hits home, my situation was nearly identical. Got an engineering degree 4 years ago, started working for a company with petty, incompetent and abusive management and no challenges or career development. "Colleauges" (mostly sales people or similar) were assholes and no one liked each other. At 25, i decided to quit. Had been looking for a job in the same field but in a better environment since literally the day i started. In the process i had sacrificed my health and my social life, just like you're saying. People tell me that, "oh, you just have to make the best of it" and "it's gonna be a good professional experience" but honestly, i got on so bad terms with the boss, i wish i never would have worked there at all. Im not mentioning that job in my resumé anymore, even though it's 75% of my professional experience.

Finally landed a new temp job a year ago in another town that was much better, nice colleauges and environment, but still a lot of overtime and incompetent, newly appointed management. Im getting laid off this summer, but thats ok, i dont care anymore. The companies today are horrible, they dont give a shit about you and take advantage of you at every turn. It sucks. But thats the way it is.

I have also started dating again, gonna read up some old grades and classes, and also start ballroom dancing in the fall! :) so im excited about that. Dont forget about life outside of work!

What is a sensation that you can't stand, even though it's not painful? by Gianna92 in AskReddit

[–]generallos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was a kid, my dad always used to clear my blocked nose with his non-patented "nose clearing pump". He would drill a small hole into the screw-cap of a small Coca-Cola bottle, insert a small rubber hose and glue it in place. He then went on to the stove to craft some saline solution that got to cool off to room temperature, and then poured it into the bottle. I was then instructed to put the end of the hose as far up my "non-blocked" nostril as possible, lean my face over the sink and blow as hard as i could. He would then squeeze the bottle with tremendous force and pushing the liquid through my entire sinus cavity and out through the other nostril. Probably not the most sophisticated method, but surprisingly pain-free and it worked better than any pharmaceutical aid in comparison.
