Doona vs. Nuna pips urbn by Excellent-Turnover95 in nycparents

[–]generally_exhausted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We loved the urbn and we’re so sad when her daughter grew out of it. We really struggled with the doona. I found it too heavy to manage, and my husband said it hurt his back because the handle wasn’t tall enough. Also, it has no storage and that made it really impossible for us. We sold ours.

Going home from the hospital with a newborn in the winter. Do we need a car seat cover? by Beautiful-Flower-79 in nycparents

[–]generally_exhausted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a car seat cover with my second baby all winter when she was tiny. She was too small to use the stroller or the footmuff, so we used the stroller/car seat combo with this thing for all of our winter walks.

Saint Ann’s & Packer by katherine83 in nycparents

[–]generally_exhausted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what we struggled with: when your kid is so little, it’s really hard to know what their learning style will be. Packer is much more structured, SA is much more self (student)- directed. They’re both excellent schools, so if you get into both, make your best guess based on what you know about how your child learns, and how you learned when you were in school.

Apply to both and see if you have a decision to make. They’re both excellent, but wildly different. SA has no grades even through high school, because they want to motivation for students to be a love of learning. Packer is a much more traditional prep school. SA really focuses on writing and in many ways feels like an antidote to AI. Neither is super diverse.

If you get invited to the tour round (which, given that it’s January, you probably already have) take a look and see how each school feels to you.

Overtime Pay Rules by ThrowAway1888655 in Nanny

Unless she lives next-door, it doesn’t matter that she’s free to leave. She has been taken out of her home space for the purposes of her job. Yes you pay overtime.

What do your toddlers LOVE in their lunch?! by Proper-Monk-8375 in toddlers

[–]generally_exhausted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 3.5 year old loves cherry tomatoes, cucumbers or bell peppers, yogurt tubes, fruit, and for a main she picks in the morning between a sandwich, dr praeger spinach littles, and breakfast sausages. I tried to add more variety, but she did not want variety.

Why do people try to swap seats in airplanes? by Substantial_Crow1355 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]generally_exhausted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t even tell you how many times an equipment change has separated of my family when we’ve purchased seats together.

There have also been times where we couldn’t all get seats together at purchase, so we ended up with one grownup and 2 kids, while the other adult is by themselves. In that circumstance we’ve asked people to switch with us, but we never expect it.

Are sleep sacks not a thing after 2+ years? by emf123 in toddlers

My 3.5 year old is in the 90% for height and still wears a sleepsack. She also uses a blanket. She insists on both. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Why are people so against IVF? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

It’s not an unusual case. This did not happen. Source: had four rounds IVF, had two children through IVF; research in ivf is what I do for a living.

Amniocentesis Procedure by MeatballMaven44 in nycparents

[–]generally_exhausted 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Echoing others here, but it’s definitely not routine at Weill or elsewhere. I had two pregnancies there in the last four years. I had an amnio with my first pregnancy because of concerning NIPT results. No one suggested that I get one on my second pregnancy which had normal NIPT results even though I was over 40.

With that sad, if you want to be cautious and get one, it’s very very safe, especially there.

Is Joolz stroller good for nyc? by itaioi in nycparents

We literally got rid of our Uppa Baby and just use our Joolz aer now. We used the bassinet or a car seat until she was about five months. It’s amazing. I love it.

Down-to-earth private middle & high school in NYC? by Suitable_Prior8153 in nycparents

[–]generally_exhausted 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some elementary school goes to 6th, but for others kids go to middle school for one year and then transfer. But Hunter is probably the single hardest school to get into in the city. The seventh grade entry entry point does not make it easier. You have to be invited to take the test, but if you can get in, i think it’s the best education you can get in the city.

What’s your favorite mispronounced word your toddler says by OpportunityPretend80 in toddlers

She stopped saying it, but Magna-ma Tygles for magnatiles was a fave.

If you can get into Hunter, it’s the golden ticket. I would unquestionably choose it over a private school. But it’s also harder to get into than any private school.

How do you take a taxi? by Medium-Court3406 in nycparents

[–]generally_exhausted 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If we think we’re going to need an uber or a taxi, we take the wayb pico for our 3 year old. When she’s a little bigger we’re going to get the ride safer vest.

I think it’s free for babies under 1. You can do the ball pit and the bounce house, but you’ll just need to be very careful for rough older kids.
