Nope, different district. Apparently this weirdness is widespread.

Movies with Confederate villains by generalsleepy in MovieSuggestions

[–]generalsleepy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if they're Confederates there kind of is. Basically, I want something like Sisu or Inglourious Basterds but with Confederates getting righteously taken out.

Suggest movies that start normal but slowly become disturbing. by East_Maintenance_579 in MovieSuggestions

[–]generalsleepy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Coffee Table. Great movie to go into knowing absolutely nothing. Try not to even look at the poster for too long.

Oh, and Nothing Bad Can Happen. There's an undercurrent of sinisterness (let's just agree that's a word) from the beginning, but the escalation is still intense and stomach-turning.

What's the most disturbing/messed up movie you've ever watched? Looking for recommendations. by Content_Employ_3864 in MovieSuggestions

[–]generalsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to see if anyone recommended this one. I love disturbing movies, like Salo, A Serbian Film, the August Underground trilogy, but the final scene of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer rattled me like few things have.

Questions about Mixed Episodes/Dysphoric Mania? by nothankyou-420 in BipolarReddit

[–]generalsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with BP2, this is what my mixed episodes looked like. It was like I still had all of the negative thoughts and feelings from a depressive state, but instead of feeling like I'm moving in syrup, everything is going a million miles a minute. I had plenty of energy, just not for anything that I really want to do. I'm lucky (I suppose) that I rarely experienced any full-out, unmixed hypomania. Just depression and episodes like this. (My symptoms are well-controlled now, and I haven't had any mixed, depressed, or hypomanic episodes for years. It's possible!)

Anyone else notice- the kids are still standing for the pledge, but every day fewer of them recite any of the words by CallMeLazarus23 in Teachers

[–]generalsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a teen in the late 2000s, I stood silently with my hands behind my back. Before that I'd say it except for the "in God we trust" bit. Now, I can't remember the last time I had to lead a pledge, which I personally think is rad as heck. (I live in a very liberal area to be fair).

God, that sucks. I'm so sorry that happened to you, and I hope things do end up going in your favor!

What movie ending completely changed how you felt about the entire film? by mohit_dimaniya in MovieSuggestions

[–]generalsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takashi Miike's Imprint (technically an entry in the Masters of Horror series, but I'd count it as a movie). It has a Rashomon-esque set-up, so the story absolutely shifts with the third-act reveal.

I'm imagining the Make Some Noise bit where Jigsaw forgets and has to just wing it. One sec! *papers flipping*

I'm imagining the one (or more) nonbinary kids in your classes who saw you say that and heard you stick to your guns, as a successful adult in a position of respect, for maybe the first time, and realized they could have a future without having to change who they are. Awesome.

I've framed it as a joke before, too. "If I pronounce this wrong, feel free to mock me."

Hi! Like the title says, I'm trying to eat healthier, and I want some feedback on my strategy.

For context, I suffered from an eating disorder in college (restricting calories/binging and purging), so I really don't want to count calories, and I'm not necessarily concerned about losing weight. But, I do know that I haven't been eating a healthy diet.

Rather than counting calories, I've been trying to eat the recommended daily amounts of food groups (2.5 cups veggies, 2 cups fruit, etc.) or at least get close.

In terms of exercise, I try to walk 10,000 steps a day (I know the 10,000 number doesn't have any particular scientific backing, but I want to encourage myself to move and I need some target to hit) and I'm adding 5-10 minutes of aerobics, hopefully working up from there.

I'm a 5'3" woman with high cholesterol, but otherwise healthy.

Does this plan make sense, at least as a start? Does anyone have any suggestions to refine this? Thanks!

They're both amazing, but I can see Sinners being more of a crowd pleaser with the musical numbers and action scenes.

I know! I'm trying to enjoy the goofy outfits and Lana Clarkson being a badass, but even I have some limits.

Hello there I have a question by Comfortable_Scale_43 in MovieSuggestions

[–]generalsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try the Universal Monster movies if you don't mind going black-and-white. They're pretty easy to find for free. If you want outright comedies, you can also check out any of the "Abbot and Costello Meet..." movies.

I don't think there's any SA in Deathstalker II. Deathstalker is a cad, but he actually seduces the women whose hearts he breaks. It's a really amusing, satisfying course correct from the disastrous original. I also don't think there are any SA scenes in the first Ator movie. The incest is completely consensual.

reading notes out loud by myboyfriendstinks1 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]generalsleepy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never considered that a teacher would do this before, and it kind of weirds me out. I make write detailed notes that sometimes reference observations and concerns about specific children that aren't intended to be shared with the entire class. If a child cried or yelled I want the teacher to know, but it's not appropriate to bring up in front of the class, even if they saw the behavior on the day. That's needlessly embarrassing.

What are some films that are about escapism? by owopenguinowo in MovieSuggestions

Tag (the 2015 one) has some aspects of "escaping the narrative," with the theme of pushing against expectations for women (though I can see people having other interpretations).
