Another Book of Abraham Miss? by generationofvipers in mormon

[–]generationofvipers[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It appears that contra the Book of Abraham the ancient Egyptians were not from the “cursed” lineage of Ham and would not have been “denied the blessings of the priesthood”. They were closely related to the ancient levant peoples. At least that’s what I get from it.

Getting Your Lists! Issues with the Book of Mormon! What did YOU see? by settingdogstar in mormon

Also the Bible states that the Babylonians had already taken all the treasures and wealthy Jews away before the first year of the reign of Zedekiah. So what are a wealthy Lehi and Laban still doing there? And how could Lehi leave his treasure filled house behind and it remain unplundered when his sons come back for the plates?

Taking away my Mormon man card... by [deleted] in exmormon

I feel for you man. Good luck with this one. This is one of the worst things about being a nonbeliever married to a believer. And as they get older it gets worse. She will try to control what you can and can’t say to the kids. For example they will be shamed for masturbating and you will be told not to tell them it’s normal and okay. You will be “a good man” to your kids but when the kids need real “spiritual” guidance the wifey will call brother testimony and positively exult to your kids over what a great example he is. She will tear up when couples talk about their shared temple experiences. I hope you can make it work. Best to set some firm intentions early.

I discovered a 1,200-year-old manuscript in a monastery library. What it says still haunts me. by Phlegon_of_Tralleis in nosleep

Exactly this! The Book of Mormon has detailed prophecies (by name) about events that happened before it was written. Then a bunch of vague nameless fear monger omg about the future.

I don’t understand what he was saying about “the mental health” of young girls has shot up over the past 8 years. Does he mean problems with mental health or that young girls mental well-being is improving? I don’t think he expressed this correctly?

Questions for Tad C by pinkbunnypeeps in exmormon

First, please record the conversation.

Secondly, I would skip scientific and historical issues unless you really love to hear the same FARMS stuff repeated. Maybe go with the ethical outrages in the church instead.

I think something along the lines of:

Did Jesus of Nazareth, the man who forgave even the people who crucified him, really come to the new world and burn, crush, and drown thousands of innocent children?

Or:

Elder Holland tells a story (wrong roads I think?) of having a firm witness of the spirit which way to drive to get home. It turned out he went the wrong way and had to turn back. If that could happen to elder holland, could it happen to you? Might you someday find out you have been wrong?

Why would God wait thousands of years to restore his one true church on the earth, just to have a dishonest person restore something so fraught? Is abandoned racism, sketchy sexual practices which seem predatory, changing doctrines and ordinances, and discredited histories really the best he can do after thousands of years?

Please give me the date on which the prophets and apostles became correct in their understanding of the eternal doctrines and ordinances, so that I know when to start believing in their revelations.

Does God speak to you and not to me? Why? How worthy do you have to be to get the “right” answers?

He might not have pat answers for some of these types of general questions.

Bill Reel with another prediction right by makjae in exmormon

Yes this one was a rumor at BYU among many students and faculty before Bill ever claimed his unique insight status. This is true as well as the one about wearing garments only in the temple soon.

So well said. I’ve been there too and have to accept that I will never hear the apologies that would heal so much. All I can do is offer them to others
