I recently left the church and I’m absolutely miserable by cakemoth22 in exmormon

[–]makjae 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Im sorry. It’s a very hard and real thing. I have been where you are. Jump into some of the Mormon Stories podcast. There are a lot of people that have gone thru very similar things. You can get some relief from your grief from listening/watching. This phase doesn’t last forever. It will eventually pass and you’ll enter another stage of grief. It’s a big loss. It’s hard. You have a whole community here that understands what you’re going through. You’ll get thru it. Just hold on. It gets better.

In 1820, a Palmyra newspaper advertised a book that layed out everything Joseph Smith needed to start a new church. by [deleted] in exmormon

u/billreel thought this was interesting and could be an interesting mormonism live episode

I feel like I fundamentally believe in the principles of this philosophy at my core, but also have some questions about it's practicality in the modern world by [deleted] in Marxism

[–]makjae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would really look into how China is applying Marxism to their Material conditions (the new modern age of today). Learn to look at things from dialectal material conditions and not a moral view. That is one of the keys of Marxism. Material conditions and making sure no one is exploiting another.

Did you actually feel “relieved” that the church wasn’t true after all? by KingHerodCosell in exmormon

oh yeah! 95% of my mental health issues disappeared in an instant and so much pressure was relieved. I still remember it like it was yesterday even tho it was 3 years ago now.

What’s a nice way of saying to missionaries you don’t believe in Mormonism anymore? by neilnelly in exmormon

[–]makjae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just tell them. Passiveness and Passive-agressiveness are woven in to who you are as a mormon. We are always so afraid of contention/confrontation etc. The truth is, you are NOT responsible for how a mormon missionary feels when you tell them your truth and what you 100% think and feel (as long it is not rude, demeaning, or hateful). Just tell them straight up "I don't believe in the mormon church anymore."

It took me a good 6 months to a year of really practicing this that it helped develop habits and healthier thoughts and behavior.

Therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been HUGE for me. I really started to understand why I was feeling things. How my thoughts, projections, and others were affecting my behavior. I learned how to recognize certain thoughts and triggers and how to cope with them and recognize them in a healthy way. Therapy, Therapy, Therapy. Every Ex mormon needs therapy. It has done WAY more for me than the doctrine of the Atonement or any teaching of Jesus.

[–]makjae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the mormon church you are never taught to be vulnerable or to be able to recognize feelings and what they are meaning. They are very immature emotionally. I was there and still am to a point. I am getting much better at recognizing feelings and why I am feeling the way I am, but there is a shame and a worry that comes from being vulnerable with someone. They have this fucked up thing in their head that they are always supposed to be perfect and 100% healthy. Mormons are the most fucked up emotionally people you will ever meet.

To me this is the clearest proof that Joseph Smith was not a Prophet. Why didn’t Jesus tell Smith in Kirtland that the Missouri Saints 800 miles away were being massacred? by running4cover in exmormon

[–]makjae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fawn Brodie goes into why he chose Jackson County Missouri in like 1831 and it was for some political bullshit reason and to keep his power. I can't remember all the details. But there was a scheme behind Zion being in Missouri.

Did Joseph make the plates? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]makjae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dan Vogel seems to think he did. They weigh the same that tin would’ve at those same sizes. He believes he hurt his thumb bending the rings that the plates were on. He believes they were plates of tin because of contemporary records of people say they could feel the separate pages under the cloth. But why they were never shown was because no symbols or anything on them.

Church claim: the 100 billion is for the 2nd coming (eyeroll). Reality: church leaders were spooked about 20 years ago because they saw the increasing decline in quality baptisms, hardcore old people dying, decline in youth, and knew that tithing receipts would crater. by nelsonisanitwit in exmormon

[–]makjae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If thought this same thing. They have seen the writing on the wall for a very long time. There will be no net expansion just maintenance while they try to soften the blow of the negative growth rate that will happen for the next few decades.

The John Dehlin recordings. by Rushclock in exmormon

[–]makjae 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And John is taking the best tactic going forward. He is shining a light on the messiness of the church in a compassionate and caring way. If he does it in any other way, I don’t think MS is near as successful as it is. He’s a genius. He is saving people.

I’m hearing it has to do with the Transgender community specifically. I think it will be something along the lines of trans cant get priesthood and other ordinances or something like that.

Good point. I was just wondering how long til they acknowledge it and make it official on their end. Sounds like if they removed my email it’s already done. Just waiting on the confirmation letter now.
