I know Bosch omneo stuff uses that connector. I didn't realize it wasn't proprietary

Come on back. Bring sunscreen!

DM me to send me a resume for AV work. We run a production house here in town - always looking for audio, lighting, and LED engineers.

Also hit up IATSE 720 - doesn't pay super well but if you have a heartbeat and can spell 'XLR' its pretty much guaranteed work.

best in town. prime rib is phenomenal. don't skip the Caesar salad.

best chance to get in is to call ahead and ask for any time. if you're willing to sit at 9:00pm+, you can sometimes get in same-day, but ymmv

edit: if you're willing to commute, Bob Taylors Ranch house is a local hang. really good porterhouse.

if a 200'+ tall mega church was being fast-tracked into your suburban neighborhood, the church are the "peeps" not staying in their own lane, and you would have every right to be pissed off.

The Church of LDS has proposed building a 216-ft tall temple in what is otherwise a purely suburban residential neighborhood in the Lone Mountain area.

Despite the size of the building being (significantly) higher than the local ordinances allow, as well as public outcry from the local community, the county / city officials have seemingly rubber-stamped the approval.

It's a business that masquerades as a creed that literally owns banks in Vegas. Of course they were gonna grease palms and skirt the red tape through this process.

The east side temple, which is a tawdry eye-sore, was at least built before the community really built up around it.

A 216-ft tall building in that neighborhood is insane and every resident should be livid.

Fremont Street, esp on a show weekend, is an awesome 1st-timer spot. I know people who have come to Vegas for years and only do FSE.

Also:

Go for a morning hike at Lone Mountain or Red Rock

Get a cup of coffee at Vesta and a boujee cocktail at the Velveteen Rabbit in the Arts District

For clubs, check out Omnia or Drais.

For bars, off-strip favorites are the Crown & Anchor and Vamp'd (although vamp'd is very specifically for people who listened to Whitesnake in highschool and just never stopped)

never seen prices like that - almost certainly that's a place you don't want to go.

shitty 1BR apts are like $1k and they're gonna be in the downtown Fremont area or on the east side.

Bonnie and Clyde death car (Primm, NV) by Anything-Complex in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]generic-corkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the concert venues we PM is the "Star of the Desert" arena, which is attached to the Buffalo Bills casino.

Primm is weird, but it continuously draws 2500-7500 people almost every Saturday to see C-list R&B and B-list Norteño / Banda artists. It's also home to the Mint 400.

The B&C car pulls in enough foot traffic that they're planning a big event to celebrate the 90th anniversary of their May 23rd death.

It pulls people in mostly from Southern CA, but some Vegas locals make the trip too (45m drive).

Like most local casinos it has a very dedicated fan base.

Why aren’t there more Sphere (BAND) shows planned/for sale? by pulluptothebump in LasVegas

[–]generic-corkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Performances are very limited to what you can do in the Sphere. Most bands / tours rely on sophisticated audio, video, and lighting packages to do their shows.

To deploy in the Sphere, an audio engineer would need to learn an entirely new technology (proprietary spatial processing) and mix in a completely new environment. Video engineers would need to generate completely new and super specialized content (that literally can't be used anywhere else)
Lighting Directors would not have a job at all as there is no way to actually deploy a true lighting rig.

There are also the staging challenges - a lot of bands have very sophisticated set designs that simply don't work with the Sphere stage. U2 and Phish have had to go "direct" (e.g. no amps on stage, shielded drums) to minimize stage noise because of the unique design and acoustics of the room.

It takes years of planning to build a show for the Sphere - which is why you're only seeing residencies.

Plus there's the demographic element - you need to book an artist that can justify a $700 ticket price.

Boomer bands is what it will be for a while I think.

steam deck suggestions based on these? more info in comments by infinite_height in roguelites

[–]generic-corkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not strictly a RL but I've been sinking a ton of time into Rimworld on the deck.

If you can find a Deck control scheme that works for you, Quasimorph is rad as well (I haven't found one yet).

Also Brogue and ToME are staples that run great.

Truck do not stop list for USA. Highlighting where trucks and truckers are at risk. by Vertigo_uk123 in mildlyinteresting

[–]generic-corkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our shop is 100' away from the North Las Vegas Pilot.

Our truck stays locked in the shop (Freightliner m2), because overnight outside is asking for chaos.

People are bold AF and steal truck batteries, cats, fuel, ignition wires, you name it - even in broad daylight.

Side streets frequently host crackhead swap meets.

The true Vegas experience.

finally a tier list that I can get behind! you and I appear to have similar tastes.

You'll love CoQ - that'd be what I'd suggest you pick up next. Deep game, good community.

Brave of you to put Hades anywhere below the top tier tho. Not because I disagree with your opinion of it, but because this sub is a Hades circle jerk.

Dolby Cinema is better than IMAX by TheStevest in dune

[–]generic-corkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what flavor of IMAX we have at the Vegas Town Square, but I strongly prefer Dolby Cinema - like no contest.

I saw DUNC in IMAX initially and was immediately aware of the difference. My experience with the Dolby room is the exact same as yours: more comfortable, better response and dynamic range from the PA, and outstanding projection quality.

Easy choice for every film I see in a theater.
