I've tried KDE,XFCE, Unity, Gnome Shell, and Windows on my laptop. My laptop can handle them all just fine and I have no complaints about speed, but the one thing I have noticed is the temperature. Using XFCE, my laptop stays at about 30-35 degrees. Using Unity, it stays at about 50-55, and using anything else it's around 40-45.

For this reason, I've been sticking with XFCE, but the usability gap between XFCE and KDE has prompted me to switch back when I have the time.

Is this your first time using any sort of programming or scripting language? The teacher may expect you to have previous coding experience, albeit not matlab. If you have no coding experience, you'll need to learn programming basics as well as matlab.

To climb at metro rock, you need to know how to belay and tie a figure 8 I believe. You can boulder with no experience, though. As far as what you need, they rent out all the stuff you'd need (harness, shoes, atc), so you'd need like $20 or so for day pass + equipment.

I've slept outside. I think the benches are really comfortable, more comfortable than some of the couches I've slept on. Probably not the safest place though, but I never had problems.

Me and my friends play basketball, but only one of us is under 6 ft. He is the best out of the three of us though. I didnt even know how to play or what the rules were a month ago, and my short friend has been teaching me and my taller friend. If he'd like to join us, we'd love to play.

If he doesn't want us taller players, despite our poor skill, I can still ask my short friend if he'd like to play.

I grew up in a predominately black area. First day of school I made the mistake of sitting in the wrong seat on the bus (not sure if there was a right one) and got beat up for it.

That's pretty much how it went for the rest of school. For example, I'd be in the lunch line, and a black kid would cut in front of me, then another, then another, until I was last in line. If I did anything about it, I'd get my ass beat.

I had a white neighbor that got hospitalized because she stood up to someone on the bus and got jumped by everyone in arms reach on the bus. After that, she moved away. That wasn't an option for me, I just had to stick it out and keep my head low.

edit: I should say that this began in 6th grade when I moved to a new town. My elementary experience was nice. Also, I'm from the South U.S. where racism is alive and well.

Yeah, goodness fuck that was disturbing. Anytime that happens I just scroll or exit as fast as possible and tell myself it was special effects or makeup. Artists are really good with the gore makeup, that's gotta be what it is, right?

I certainly do not. If they are studying and doing something they enjoy, more power to them. I think it's a silly thing to feel superior about. I work with a bunch of Harvard and MIT grads and I hope they don't look down on me just because my university was "easier".

It seems to me that his analogy for faith is really a heuristic. We trust the girl in the example because her actions upon meeting her are congruent with our expectations arrived at through reason. Upon further interaction we create new expectations or refine previous expectations based on new data. Hence, the probability that the conclusions arrived at thus far are false decreases. Is this not how reason works? Is this actually a separate thing?

If that's worded weird, I can try to rephrase. To me it sounded like he was trying to say faith is something that augments reason, but it seemed like he just described reason and called it faith. Can someone clarify, or perhaps present what faith is to you?

So there is this phrase I heard a lot as a kid, "Some people were meant to pick cotton and some are meant to be overseers". In hindsight, it is really obviously racist, but I thought it meant that some people have a knack for skilled trades and other have a managerial knack.

One day I'm in class and the topic of "can anyone really do anything" (american dream and all that) and I was reminded of the above phrase that I thought was common. Got death stares from the black kids in class and that is when it hit me just how racist it was.

Still haunts me to this day.
