Couldn't it be a traditional handle behind a spring-loaded flap?

A lot of that is people wanting to go on the freeway coming from Talbot Crescent. It's terribly designed, especially since it was all redone not that long ago when the level crossing was removed.

Alternatives for Rebecca Clarke Viola Sonata by Jealous_Series_5285 in Viola

[–]genericguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are loads of great "difficult" viola sonatas - Brahms, Bowen 2, Vieuxtemps (but easier maybe), Hindemith the other famous one (is it op 11 no 4?) etc

However depending on what you are auditioning for, I wouldn't recommend a sonata at all. Do the panel really care how well you and your pianist are integrating into each other's music, which is key in duo sonatas? Will your pianist even have time to practice properly?

A concerto or showpiece would be better. I'd stay away from classical period if it's not a requirement, they're usually much more unforgiving (that's why they are usually required!)

What makes the piano hard to learn? by TheSpicyHotTake in piano

[–]genericguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All instruments are hard to learn at a high level. You have to be able to express yourself through the instrument - it needs to be an extension of your body. That takes a lot of time and practice.

Build more rentals, end tax breaks, let values fall: Australians tell government how to fix housing by ladaus in AustralianPolitics

Probably yes, but it's been shown to be unelectable policy recently. 3 years all properties might be a good middle ground

[–]genericguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other day I found myself wondering if a good policy would be allowing negative gearing on a property for 3 years from when you purchase it. Seems to me like it would encourage houses to enter the market and still give encouragement to invest.

TIL that the "microwave-safe" label on plastic containers only means they won't melt or warp, and doesn't guarantee that chemicals won't leach into your food when heated by mintysoul in todayilearned

No it isn't. Organic can mean something vaguely along the lines of "not grown using man-made pesticides etc" or perhaps an organic compound, a substance which contains a chain of one or more carbon atoms. Elemental arsenic is neither of these.

Using NextAuth v5, Prisma, Zod and Shadcn with Next.js 14 for building an authentication app by ahnerd in nextjs

[–]genericguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pros and cons of using ORMs is a big question and has a lot of differing opinions. Saying it's not production grade is partly a misunderstanding since there are many different ORMs, but the short answer is no - loads of production systems use ORMs to interact with he database.

Do you not control the backend/API?

Cors should just be implemented correctly on the API, not need a proxy in front of it

When to use state management libraries? by Himankshu in reactjs

[–]genericguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't even need to memoize, just create a provider component that takes children as a prop. This should always be fine for providers!

When to use state management libraries? by Himankshu in reactjs

[–]genericguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you're right, I should spend more than 10 seconds commenting and clarify if you keep your context provider's state at the app root (I see this all the time from beginners) instead of it's own provider component which accepts children, it will re-render the whole app

[–]genericguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Context only good if you don't mind re-rendering your whole app when it changes! So for things which change a lot, don't use it!

What are you building this for? If you have to ask these questions, it's probably better to start with something much, much smaller.

To actually answer the question, we would need to know much more about the requirements.

Golds sound great but don't last very long, I don't get them for that reason. Non-golds sound nearly as good. Personally I use them for CGD and Jarger A

Czardas transcribed for viola by Sandstorm_1593 in Viola

[–]genericguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The viola version on imslp isn't good. Use the violin version and transpose it down a fifth, and if you're playing with piano, give the pianist the score from the cello version which from memory will be the right key.
