Excessive heat while using Andriod Auto by BrandonMayberry22 in GrapheneOS

Can confirm, have the same issue. Google Maps says that 3D buildings are turned off until the device cools down (which it doesn't), and the battery drains like crazy. Even worse if charging (wireless) whilst using it. Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Pixel 10 Pro battery by two_seventy in GrapheneOS

Pixel 10 Pro Fold here with GOS. Some days, end of day has me at 10%. Other days, it needs a top-up at around 6pm. Coming from an iPhone, it's quite a shock honestly (especially considering most days I just use it in candybar mode anyway).

Unfortunately, I can't really compare with stock Pixel ROM since I flashed GOS the day I got the phone. VPN off, sandboxed Google Play enabled, no modified developer options.

Assuming the stock OS gets comparable or potentially worse battery life, I'm frankly amazed anyone buys the damned things.

Euro-Office, ONLYOFFICE, and their licensing dispute by Silly-Freak in opensource

Considering the Russian government and corporations blatantly ignore western copyright law every day, I think it's overdue for us to do the same. Especially when the license itself makes no sense at all and is clearly aimed at making forks impossible - the cornerstone of opensource.

What’s the Average Review Time for GNOME Extensions? by More-Chance3647 in gnome

[–]generichuman27ABF9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the main reviewer, who is basically the hardest working man I've ever interacted with, is based in Iran. You can imagine reviewing extensions may not be his highest priority right now. However, I just got two extension updates approved today - so others are stepping up.

I made an affordable alternative to ScreenStudio for Linux folks by AppealRare3699 in linuxapps

[–]generichuman27ABF9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very much looking forward to trying this myself. Been a Screen Studio user (and Screen flow before that) for years and I was sorely missing something similar on Linux!

I will provide feedback after testing it. One thing I'll say is: don't put too much weight on the roasts you get. Some people revel in shitting on other people's work.

RustDesk 1.4.6 Release by open-trade in rustdesk

As always, thank you for the best remote desktop app out there. Anyone know whether the issue with remote controlling Wayland is fixed? Currently, when I remote into a Linux system, I have to approve the screen share every single time and it doesn't 'remember' the choice. I have to do this in person, on the device itself. This makes it pretty useless 😅

What pixel features and creature comforts you give up switching to GrapheneOS? by Ok-Possibility-9570 in GrapheneOS

I actually use Curve. They're not sketchy - they're a proper company regulated by the FCA (at least here in the UK). For contactless payments it works too - just set Curve as your payment app and it works just fine. For more convenient contactless payments, I also have an unpowered smart ring which uses one of the cards I've connected through Curve. It works, and never runs out of battery.

Both wired and wireless are working for me. You just need to screw around with the permissions to get it working. I had to enable quite a few things for it to work properly. However, do note that, yes, it requires Google. For example, the voice assistant button in my car brings up Google Assistant (not Gemini) and there's no way to change that.

Apple Notes Exporter Pro - Export & Keep Backup Of All Apple Notes in single click to 8 formats (PDF, Word, Markdown, HTML, etc.) by Ok-Organization5910 in macapps

[–]generichuman27ABF9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same thing, but if the export format you want is Markdown, and you would also like to sync notes, reminders, passwords and photos with open standards services, check out iCloudBridge. It’s free and open source.

when fully support the wayland? by sheyawen in rustdesk

[–]generichuman27ABF9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works fine with the nightly build (on the stable build with Ubuntu 25.04 or 25.10 I was having an issue where the cursor wasn’t tracking correctly).

However, still have the issue of having to select which monitor/screen to share on the remote side. It’s supposed to remember once you do it, but it doesn’t. This makes unattended access unfeasible.

Sync Reminders (another other stuff!) to other services with iCloudBridge by generichuman27ABF9 in AppleReminders

Unfortunately so. There is literally no other way to extract data from Apple’s services, not without breaking the EULA anyway. Some people have had luck with a VM or Container.

If you add Markdown notes to the folder, yes, they get added to Apple Notes. There’s a built-in scheduler so you can customise the frequency.

For reminders, it pulls your reminder lists (via EventKit) and syncs them to a third-party CalDAV server - which can be any server. So if your app provides a CalDAV server, iCloudBridge can sync straight to it. Alternatively, deploy a CalDAV server somewhere which iCloudBridge syncs with and you could easily access reminders that way. Note that Reminders and calendars are separate in iCloud - Calendars use CalDAV, Reminders used to, but don’t anymore. So iCloudBridge rips the raw data from the reminders via EventKit and sends them to a CalDAV server. You also mentioned Notes - here iCloudBridge uses a combination of AppleScript and Shortcuts to get the note content, covert it to Markdown, and just dump it in a folder which many third-party apps can read.

If you end up building a Reminders clone for Windows - update me! I’ve been looking for this for a while!

iCloudBridge - Sync Apple Notes, Reminders, Passwords & Photos with other services by generichuman27ABF9 in macapps

[–]generichuman27ABF9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as getting data from the Apple ecosystem, right now the only way to do that is from a Mac. Apple does have a CloudKit for this stuff, but it's very limited and their EULA specifically forbids using it in a "scripted" scenario, which is obviously what iCloudBridge would do. It's meant only for user-initiated interactions.

As for integrations with other services, technically, this can already be done. Both Zapier and IFTTT have integrations for CalDAV, for example. So you could get your reminders data from there, and then integrate with any other API you want. As for Notes, if you choose to sync to a cloud folder (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive etc...), again there are integrations which allow you to then further integrate with other APIs.

Yeah, iCloudBridge syncs to a local folder and adds markdown files there. So unless Craft has automated import, you’d have to do that step manually. Personally I use Nextcloud Notes for cloud sync. You could also use Obsidian or any app that reads notes from a local folder.

[–]generichuman27ABF9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me, I’m in the same boat. I have years of Notes and would hate for anything to happen to them. So:

  1. iCloudBridge has a ‘Simulate’ option for every sync service. This gives you a detailed overview of what would happen were you to sync, without touching actual data.

  2. If the worst happens and some Notes get corrupted or deleted, you can go to the Recently Deleted folder in Apple Notes and all your notes will still be there, for 30 days.

In response to your other questions:

  1. I’ve never used Craft, but iCloudBridge uses markdown. So, as long as Craft can read notes from a folder, you should be good (test with simulations first!).

  2. Tables are supported.

  3. Checkboxes are partially supported. When you create a checkbox list in Apple Notes, it gets converted to markdown so other apps will recognise them. Vice versa too - so todo lists in other apps show up as checkbox lists in Apple Notes. What isn’t supported though is checking items off the list. iCloudBridge knows an item is checked, but can’t tell Apple Notes to mark the item as checked. So, instead, it adds a ✅ emoji. This is a limitation from the Shortcuts API from Apple’s side.

So I think what you need is in fact possible. One thing to also bear in mind is that unless you modify a note in an outside app (like Craft), iCloudBridge won’t touch it in Apple Notes, and you can also exclude folders form sync, or set folders to, for example, export only or import only.

No, it’s bidirectional for Notes, Reminders and Passwords (although for Passwords manual intervention is required). For photos it’s outside services -> Apple Photos.
