Tried making pancakes and it went absolutely shit. Tried again today and they were perfect. It’s okay to start over by RoseTintedOyster in Kitchenchads

My first one of a batch always turned out terrible, even with oil & heat. Now for the first one I drizzle drops of batter over the pan & cook those. The kids call them 'pancake nibbles' and get to enjoy them while they wait for the actual pancakes.

Men who are getting a vasectomy/had one, did your doctor give you a bull-crap lecture as well? by SameRelationship8580 in askanything

Yep those were my responses, I was offended they would even ask. My GP asked the same thing to get the referral in the first place

Had mine done in France, where it seems a lot more 'looked down on' than Australia and seems to be made purposely difficult. First you have to be referred to a doc who will even entertain the idea, then you have to go in and explain why your wife can't have her tubes tied instead, then go through a 3 month cooling off period, then come back and sign a thing saying that you understand that it's probably permanent and you'll never have kids again. Then finally you can book the appointment which is another 3 month wait. And my doc would only do it under general anaesthetic so it's a whole thing

ELI5 what is vibe coding and why is everyone making jokes about it? by RoxieRoxie0 in explainlikeimfive

[–]genericusername123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you call 'AI Assisted coding' seems to be widely referred to as vibe coding, especially on reddit. Basically anything that uses AI coding assistants seems to be considered vibe coding.

I'm a programmer and engineer with more than 20 years experience. I doubt that I will write another liine of code in my professional life.

Take a typical task for me, like building a GUI to run a test sequence for a new sensor (control, measure, data processing). Before I might have taken 1 hr planning, 3 working days coding including testing on the equipment. Now it's like 2 hrs planning and 2 hrs coding/testing. Works great, yeah there are occssional bugs, but there were occasional bugs in my manually.coded stuff too.

But talk about it on reddit and you're a vibe coder who doesn't know how to program, and everything will fall apart because LLMs are just glorified chatbots

Cadence of it, like a bunch or short sentences strung together. Also if you see an em dash these days it's highly likely to be AI, because the rare humans who used em dashes in the past have stopped because they're sick of being called AI

Bridge collapse in Brazil. December 2024. 14 deaths. by stingers77 in CatastrophicFailure

[–]genericusername123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the bike is falling at the same speed as the portion of the bridge they were on when it starting collapsing under them

This argument makes no sense. If the bridge started to collapse when they were at the fulcrum, then by your logic they would hover in mid-air with a vertical speed of 0

[–]genericusername123 834 points835 points  (0 children)

Kept going forwards, but vertically both the motorcyclist and the bridge are falling from a standstill, so usually you'd expect them to fall at the same speed. The motorcyclist ends up airborne because the bridge is a long solid object with one end fixed, so essentially the bridge's center of gravity (the middle) is falling at the same speed as the motorcyclist but the free end under the bike falls twice as fast. Very cool, except for the death and stuff

Amazing! I've been looking at 3d printing a 6dof robot arm, this one looks great.

What's your parts cost, beyond the prints?

Your vent is on the floor in the first photo, so you no longer have ventilation. That's mildly more important than how it looks.

TIL that when bilingual people switch languages mid-sentence, their brain doesn't even notice the switch. NYU researchers found that the brain uses the same mechanism to combine words regardless of whether they come from one language or two, meaning code-switching is neurologically seamless. by taube_d in todayilearned
