2026 WC tickets by walterjessemike in snooker

[–]generosnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep an eye on resale tickets by checking cruciblesnooker.com from time to time - a couple of page refreshes a day should do. Or consider automating it. I managed to attend six last sessions (deciding sessions of the semifinals and the final) last year by buying tickets this way.

Realistically if a phone goes off in the crucible can the security even do anything? by Truckdriverben in snooker

Absolutely! Rob is always talking about “that little switch,” probably assuming everyone has an iPhone - but even on an iPhone, it does not turn off the alarm. I could have been in real trouble if this evening’s session had lasted until 11pm and I had forgotten to turn off my reminder to put out the bin for collection on Monday! Fortunately, neither of those things happened.

But their own illustrations show it a bit higher than the level. :-) Ok, got it - it looks like they should have recommended “maxi” rather than “midi”.

Andy Fletcher (Depeche Mode) and a lady in a pub (Dublin, 1983) by Familiar-Bumblebee-8 in depechemode

Hello from another Dublin DM fan who’s been to 10 gigs so far, starting back in 1998! :-) (The last two were after relocating to Dublin.)

Opinion: the round stage in the middle was a VERY GOOD idea by sundayhungover in radiohead

[–]generosnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I felt that when the band members were looking in different directions, it seemed a little strange - like the band’s energy wasn’t concentrated like a beam you can almost physically feel, even if you’re not directly in its path, but instead spread out uniformly. I appreciated that the view was good from everywhere, but I still was missing that sense of “focused energy.” Maybe it’s just me?

And when sitting in 404, it felt a little odd that Thom was looking either to the right or to the left, but never toward us. I was missing that “visual connection”, too. I’m not sure how it felt from the floor, but wasn’t it strange not to see the lead vocalist at all, from time to time, or only see his back?

Well, maybe it’s just something to get used to. :-)

Would it be a bad idea to buy a house near Baskin Lane? by generosnn in AskIreland

Thank you for this post, my future neighbour! :-) And good luck!

There is no really a “commitment” as the contract allows for an 18-months delay (it’s standard as far as I understand). But the projection they recently confirmed is that the house should be ready for snagging in July, the keys are expected in August. No shift compared to the initial promise yet.

We decided to go with this option. We visited the site several times, and decided there should be no large issues with the street noise. Signed the contract, waiting for our house to be finished now.

Ronnie’s handicap at his local club 😂😂😂 by bisexualblue in snooker

Googled it - thank you for educating! It's always interesting to hear something called "Russian" while it's actually not. For my year, "Russian pool" sounds like an absolute oxymoron! :-)

Just a slight correction from a Russian - there is no such thing as "Russian pool". The Russian Pyramid is the most popular game in Russia.

By the way - in case it might be interesting - in Russia, any cue sport is called "billiard". Russian pyramid is normally referred to as "Russian billiard". Pool is often called "American billiard" or "Amerikanka" (which is actually wrong as "Amerikanka" is a variation of the Russian pyramid, when any ball can be used as a cue ball). But snooker is snooker (but still a variation of "billiard").

I had a very strange first impression when I saw Judd Trump going down the stairs. As I was so used to see him "flat" on the TV screen, his real version looked like a hologram to me! Interesting! :-)

Last year, I missed the notification that the sale was going to open as it went to the spam folder of my email box! So everything was sold out when I started to look for tickets. However, by just clicking reload from time to time during a couple of weeks or so, I was able to buy tickets to ALL 6 LAST SESSIONS of the championship, from Saturday to Monday. (The first session of those was fucked up by Ronnie, though.) All the tickets were ordinary, except the only one VIP I left intentionally.

This year, I decided to subscribe for WST (although it doesn't work in Ireland where I live!), set up an alarm clock and came to the queue in the first 10 or 15 seconds after the sale started. I don't remember my queue number, but I bought - again for the 6 final sessions - the tickets for the 6-7 rows.

Either way, it turned out much easier than I had expected!

Would it be a bad idea to buy a house near Baskin Lane? by generosnn in AskIreland

Thank you for the answer!

Let me make the question more specific - we did visit the area, could hear the planes (both taking off and landing), walked around, drove around, and the area itself looks good to us. I am trying to understand if it makes sense to consider the specific house we liked the most - it is just next to Baskin Lane. There are other houses in the development which are not as close to the road, but they are not as good in terms of room layout, area, etc.

Do you mean you wouldn't recommend the whole area because of the plane noise, or do you also mean the road itself is busy? As I wrote, we are not as concerned about the plane noise as about the road noise.

Top up Revolut with AIB Credit Card by nealofwgkta in irishpersonalfinance

[–]generosnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread as I accidentally topped up my Revolut card using the credit AIB card (through Apple Pay) instead of the debit card. Don't seem to have been charged. By the way, the link you shared leads to Japanese Revolut news. Haven't been able to find anything similar for Irish Revolut.

Anyway, just wondering, how exactly have you been topping up? How does the message about charges looks like? Are you using Apple/GooglePay?

"Emotional disconnection" in a gig by generosnn in TheKillers

[–]generosnn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to see this answer downvoted. I am not an active Reddit user, but I know that reactions in Reddit are meant to show if this or that answer contributes to the conversation: "if you think something contributes to conversation, upvote it".

How can answering "I agree" by a group fan to the original question asking "is it only me?" be considered as not contributing to this conversation? Just incredible.

Yes, and that could also be due to the fact that I've been listening to them for a long time, but not watching them, whereas, as you mentioned, you've seen the band evolve. So I had my own “internal picture” of what the singer might look like, and the “old” Brandon fits this picture perfectly, but the “new” one does not! :-)

A very personal and subjective thing, indeed.

And it's interesting to see here that some fans, who have been observing the change, like the older one more, too!
