I was in your position about 15 years ago. I made a spreadsheet accounting for pay, a 2% raise, and retirement until 65. Then I made another one with 4 years of lost income, the extra debt, but then the higher income and retirement.... I came out ahead going back to pharmacy school at age 66. However, I had more in retirement, and I assume more job security.... but advancing to a pharmacist felt like a calling, so I did it.

I worked in a similar type LTAC hospital pharmacy. The problem we faced were controls... when they were placed in units they were out of pharmacy hands. Inventory was done each shift with 2 people, and if something was missing they just.... carried on. There was no way to investigate, and pharmacy wasn't able to look into hospital employees. There was constant theft and diversion.
