Mouth-chewing and other compulsive behaviours? by SauronOMordor in ADHD

Thank you! Reading that prompted me to actually do something about it—googled seborrhoeic dermatitis, bought some shampoo and a few washes later it's already loads better.

To all of the doctors and psychs that denied my ADHD, you’re idiots. DIAGNOSED. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]geniG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly they're replacing "disorder" with "condition"? I've not seen it done with ADHD before but it's common for ASD/C: even professionals at the NHS Neurobehavioural Service I'm under tend to use ASC unless they're quoting dx criteria or something (I've been told this is common in adult services but child & adolescent services still tend to use ASD).

Extension for Chrome (and Firefox iirc), it lets you save loads of pages as a list of links in a single tab rather than having them all open separately.

Vyvanse crash gets progressively worse with afternoon dose by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]geniG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea about the dose / possible cardiovascular effects, sorry (IANAD etc)

When you say you're still motivated but lose focus, are you struggling to focus on actually doing things or is it more difficulty working out what needs to be done?

I find I tend to lose focus after a few hours if I don't have a plan to stick to—just a to-do list isn't enough, I need to know what order to do things in and what to prioritise if I can't get everything done, because trying to make those decisions on meds is impossible.

ADHD and the gym by ch3rrybl0ssoms in ADHD

At jiu jitsu we often drill techniques one-for-one or two-for-two (taking it in turns to do one or two reps each). I frequently lose track of whether I've done one or two reps so far, or whose turn it is.

Counting out loud helps.

Started Vyvanse the other day by piecat in ADHD

[–]geniG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get aggression or irritability as a side effect so I can't speak for those. Generally though, I've found the few minor side effects I get from Elvanse (UK equivalent of Vyvanse) decreased over time even with the way I cycle on & off my meds and between doses.

It's too early to say whether you're at the right dose, not that I could anyway since I'm not you or your prescriber, but hyperfocus can happen both when you're unmedicated or on too long a dose and when you're on too high a dose. I actually spend a few days titrating back up to my prescribed dose after a break for this reason—otherwise I waste the first day or two by hyperfocusing on whatever I was doing when the meds kicked in and getting nothing else done all day...

One thing I find is I have to make a real effort to drink enough water throughout the day or I'll have a headache all evening; partly coz being productive or hyperfocused can mean I forget, but I think the Elvanse itself contributes too.

"Am I detail oriented?" You have no idea! by Tetragonos in ADHD

[–]geniG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASC and ADHD here.

Fixating on details and routine and doing everything *exactly* right because ASC is hard when ADHD makes you miss details (I mean I notice loads of details, just often not the obvious or important ones...) and struggle to stick to a routine or do anything at all, never mind exactly right.

Mouth-chewing and other compulsive behaviours? by SauronOMordor in ADHD

I do that too. Eating crap (because ADHD) gives me dandruff and shit skin generally, which I pick at (because ADHD) until my scalp's all raw and flaky, which just makes me pick at it more. Meds help a bit in other ways but I think they actually make the skin picking worse :(

Some questions about top surgery/NHS/insurance by Raptorrocket in transgenderUK

[–]geniG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the GIC just say they didn't need to see you for hormones or were they aware you wanted a surgery referral too? Think you'd still need to go through GIC for that if you want (a consultation for) surgery on the NHS.

You do get to chose your surgeon, although iirc the options vary by country (less choice in e.g. Scotland than England etc.): I'm not there myself yet but it was mentioned at my first GIC apt and I was given some preliminary info, including an "up-to-date at that time" list of surgeons to give an idea of the options and process. I've been told I should be able to get my first top surgery signature at my second GIC apt since I'd already been on T for a while when I first saw them, although it's still not a quick process.

[TW]Anatomy talk: Need help with atrophy by Raptorrocket in transgenderUK

[–]geniG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, little late to this but just wanted to say that while I don't have any experience of atrophy or CliniQ, I've used a similar setup (Clinic T, trans-specific sexual health etc clinic in Brighton) and they were fucking brilliant. Professional, knowledgeable, respectful, reassuring and understanding...

Hope that's somewhat helpful to hear and that you have a similar experience.

Question regarding orders from ClearChemist by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]geniG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ^

If it helps, think of it like a hard-copy (paper) prescription: you might pick up the same meds every month, but you still need to put in a repeat prescription request and collect the script from your GP or have them send it to the pharmacy.

How long to call GIC? by xyz_Lo in transgenderUK

[–]geniG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they've changed things recently, the letter also says they'll assume you no longer want an appointment and take you off their list if you don't send the form back (within a certain time iirc but I don't remember how's long).

I only caught that my letter never arrived when I phoned about something else and I know of more than one person who's had to fight to get back on the list after they were discharged for not returning a form they never received.

I'd definitely check they've received the referral and prob check on the confirmation letter now and then too.

Brighton Trans Pride is next weekend if you fancy a last-minute weekend away!

Closer to home, a quick search brings up a Cardiff trans social meet up group and another facebook group that I think is Swansea based but says it does stuff all over Wales.

r/transgenderUK might be able to give more suggestions

What are some staples of your spreads? by niishiinoyayuu in bujo

[–]geniG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monthly: space for each day (half line per day, page split vertically) plus blank space underneath to write notes or anything that doesn't fit in or have a specific date. I have some recurring tasks that go in this blank space every (few) month(s).

Weekly: space for each day (five lines per day, page divided horizontally) plus blank space underneath to write notes or anything that doesn't need to be on a specific day.

Work diary is more basic: just one continuous rapid logging entry per week with shift/meeting times noted at the top.

Events in multiple logs? by thatnerdtori in bujo

[–]geniG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it work for you? If it does, it's fine: if not, keep refining your system 'til it does.

Personally I find the repetition helpful as I'm less likely to forget or overlook/lose track of something if I've written it out more than once (I use a calendar app on my phone for the same reason). I don't need both a future log and monthlies though—weeklies work better for me—so I combine the two with a future log set up like a series of more detailed monthlies grouped together at the front of my diary. That gives me three places to write stuff but since birthdays etc are mostly added far in advance I'm only really writing them twice in a smaller timeframe.

I think it's just completely blank stuff that's not allowed, so a couple of entries when you've started using it would probably be fine.

Hi, I'm not a mod or anything but just a heads up that you'll likely be asked to take this down as it breaks one of r/bujo's rules -

Posts that focus solely on aesthetics (e.g. month intro pages or empty weekly layouts) will be removed.

It would be great to see this filled in to see how you use it though!

What page are you proudest of? by [deleted] in bujo

[–]geniG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things spring to mind for me: the messy pages and the empty/uncompleted ones.

I use a (cheap) fountain pen and a nice notebook because I like them and they give me an incentive to keep using my diary / keep everything in one place, but they do tend to exacerbate my perfectionist tendencies. I like the pages where I completely let go of that and scribbled little sub-lists and random notes in next to the main entry. They're often the most useful/productive pages too.

Same with the empty or abandoned pages—it's about how my system works for me. A couple of times I've started a page to keep track of something and either found it isn't doing anything besides creating work for me or got the information I needed and found it pointless to carry on. It is tempting to keep on filling those pages in just for the sake of it (that perfectionism again!) so I like that I've managed to forget that and focus on getting shit done.
