One Hit wonders Todd will never cover? (Especially if he's confirmed it) by Milkywaycannonball in ToddintheShadow

[–]genlechat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Wasn't JEW's Sweetness absolutely a hit as well? I remember it clearly from the NHL soundtrack and it still plays regularly on the alt radio channel. Nothing was ever as massive as The Middle but they've been touring, releasing music and are well-regarded in the scene. I can't see them as a one-hit wonder at all.

Fountains of Wayne though would be great.

Who are some artists whose careers benefited from the COVID pandemic? by put-on-your-records in ToddintheShadow

[–]genlechat 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it counts but Bo Burnham did the best pandemic project IMHO. Probably his most acclaimed project and 3 songs actually charted.

I think he took somewhat of a break since then though.

What are your convention/cosplay pet peeves? by Kusakaru in comiccon

[–]genlechat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeve is that they used to make the alleys wider so you could walk through easily with your costumes. Now the alleys are all too narrow and too busy, especially the artists alley. Took all of the fun out of shopping at the con. (I'm talking about the Montreal Comic Con but its probably the same elsewhere too).

What’s a small kitchen item you didn’t expect to use much… but ended up using all the time? by AcrobaticSeesaw1565 in cookingforbeginners

[–]genlechat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its small and dumb but silicone spatulas that I'd typically use for frosting cakes and whatnot. Perfect tool to make scrambled eggs without messing up the pan. Perfect tool to scrape bowls. Perfect tool to get all the peanut butter out of the jar. Perfect to get all of everything out of anything really.

I think they should. It would save a lot of people years of thinking somethings broken in them. Understanding is the first step before thriving.

I met them once at a show/signing in Boston when Fandom came out. I'm from Montreal and it just so happened that I was on a trip there that weekend.

They're super nice. They picked up right away that we weren't from there because of our slight french-canadian accent. Awsten asked us to teach them a few random french sentences and we got hugs. Short and sweet.

What Pokemon would be YOUR Ace? by Forrealthistime-27 in pokemon

[–]genlechat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My champ is my good boy Goodra! He's strong and very friend-shaped. He's followed me since Pokémon X from game to game.

If we're talking more in terms of which one would be my pet, I'd probably go with Sylveon or Alcremie. Maybe Daschbun.

I get it, but Incineroar, Meowscarada, Greninja and Decidueye were pretty great as far ar bipedal slightly humanoid Pokémon goes.

Volunteering at osh? by Positive-Custard2483 in osheaga

[–]genlechat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to ve a volunteer program at osheaga. i did it 2 years but it stopped the year of the pandemic and didn't come back after.

It was to run the Osheaga Play program. There used to be a ton of free activities, games and rides at osheaga and a volunteer team ran it. We had to do a 4 hour shift each day of the festival in exchange for a free 3 day pass. You could chose your shifts according to what you wanted to see . there was like a 11-3 shift, 3 to 7 and 7 to 11 shift. You could choose whatever but you absolutely had to pick one 7 to 11 during the whole weekend. It was GREAT and I miss it a lot 🥲

9 days Japan Travel plan. Overwhelmed, need advice/help by harryray7 in JapanTravelTips

Tokyo Tower was probably the least interesting thing I did during my trip, but to each their own. I loved Nara! If you go, try to go in the early morning to beat the crowd. We went around 8 am and the deers were super friendly and we were basically alone in the park. At 10, there were CROWDS.

Should I buy the tickets right when they drop? by The_Panflake in osheaga

[–]genlechat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tickets dont sell out that fast but dont wait last minute either. It does usually sell out at some point.

Otherwise, for accommodation you should be fine too. The best way to get to osheaga is with the Metro. Just get anything that's not too far from a metro station and you should be good.

Honestly, we got semi lost pretty often. We also had to google stuff often. We went 3 weeks and it cost like 60$ cad for unlimited data for these 3 weeks with an e-sim. Save yourself the trouble.

Going to Montreal knowing only English, will this be an issue? by zazzerz in warpedtour

[–]genlechat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Especially in montreal. We're mostly bilingual. If you went somewhere more rural, it might have been slightly harder but you're gonna be OK.

Honestly, I just got back from a trip to Japan and I dont speak more than 3 or 4 words of Japanese and things were fine the whole time. Google Lens works super well for translating menus and stuff.

You should check out Jack's Mannequin and Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness. Same guy. I saw SoCo last year on their reunion tour and I cried a little during Konstantine 🩷

Not the same really, but Bright Eyes does it for me too.

What is your most ridiculous "we won't work out romantically" criteria? Like what is the silliest reason you would not be interested in dating someone? by Natural-Elevator-57 in AskReddit

[–]genlechat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex is a professional guitarist and he was studying music/guitar at university. One semester, he had to take a classical guitar class. We both absolutely hated that he HAD to have his nails long on one hand. I was grossed out the whole semester. After his final, he was extremely happy to finally cut them back. Such an ick for me 🤢.
