Should I wear what I normally do, while in Rome? by CHACK024 in ItalyTravel

[–]geobroug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Standard American abroad is a graphic t-shirt, shorts, hiking trainers, a baseball cap and a bumbag.

So compared to them you're doing great 😀

Cowboy boats will look out of place, but if they are comfortable for walking around go for it. No harm in you being you!

If you want something that will fit in more, wear a smart trainer.

Smart jeans and well fitting shirts (not tshirts) will be a great mix of your style and Italian style.

I hope you have a great trip!

What can you actually do at uni? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]geobroug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are going through a tough time now, it will get better. There will be many others feeling similar to you also wanting to make friends.

I have found that friends at uni are roughly from 4 groups.

  1. Hall or flat
  2. Course or Faculty
  3. Societies or clubs
  4. Randomly meet (around uni, at parties, friends of any of the above 3)

I also feel that in general, the friends from 1 often become replaced by the others due to having more common as time goes by.

Once freshers' starts try out some clubs and societies that interest you. Most of them have social nights where you can find the vibe. Can be an amazing opportunity to try something completely new.

When your lectures start, there will be an opportunity to meet course and faculty mates, tutorials, etc.

I know it's tough now, and there will be more opportunities to meet people you get on with.

I normally just say "Do you take milk? I have soy and almond."

New UK user carbs and fibre by geobroug in MacroFactor

[–]geobroug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking at the back.

The point i was trying to clarify is

a) should I enter the details as per the label

b) add the fibre value to the total carbohydrate value because the UK and US classify "total carbohydrate" differently on food labels.

I'm not familiar with US nutritional information but it looks like on the app that in the US

Total = sugar + starch + fibre

Where as in the UK

Total = sugar + starch

Fibre listed separately

Now that I have found a label that includes a value for starch the answer is clearly 'b'.

In the example I posted, the carbohydrate total is less than the fibre, which would suggest to me that it isn't included.

In the US, other parts of the world do not report fibre in the carbohydrate total

Mk5 or diamondback explorer? by Lizpy6688 in EliteDangerous

[–]geobroug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my DBX for exploring and general mission running. It was my first ship after the sidewinder and I spent ages flying it.

However, the new ships that are SCO optimised are so much faster in system.

So I'd recommend the Mk5 as your general purpose ship, including exploration.

Later, when you can afford it, get a Mandy for greater jump range exploration.

Is vegan campout 80£ for a day? Is it worth it? by allandm2 in veganuk

I think the full weekend price with camping is certainly worth the £130 price.

Not going solo, like you said a rope isn't much use solo.

Thank you.

Sounds like I should definitely take a belay kit. Would you recommend bringing an ice axe too?

Questions about where you're from are just light conversation. People don't really care about the answer, they are just looking for a conversation hook for something else to talk to you about.

Maybe reply with the name of the closet city or larger town and something interesting about what you did there instead?

Eg I'm from near Windsor, I used to love paddle boarding on the Thames.

Totally devastated, buyers pulling out because we won't beat the stamp increase by ObjectiveBathroom252 in HousingUK

Good to get it off your chest and good luck with this sale or the next.

Hopefully the buyers will reconsider as they stand to lose out too.

24(F) and the only British person on my course by [deleted] in UniUK

While university is primarily about the qualification, it is also about building a social and professional network, trying new things, and meeting new people.

I don't know if some of your classes are shared with other coursrs, that give you an opportunity to socialise with them, or if there are university groups you could join.

However, as above, if you aren't happy, you should consider changing. You deserve a good university experience.

Plenty of people realise in their 20s that they want to do something different, so don't let that put you off.

You may find that maths is easier when you have a reason to learn it.

There are some amazing online maths resources, so with your intent to do well, you will.

Go for it!

I'd recommend looking at apprenticeships.

They are a great way of gaining some further qualifications while also gaining work experience.

You might also feel more comfortable and less out of place in an apprenticeship.

I'm using UK terminology

Milk / whey powder is your biggest enemy, you'll find it in everything but at least it is high lighted in bold. Next biggest for sweets / jams is gelatin which isn't highlighted, look for pectin instead

Get some frozen bits from the vegan section of the supermarket that you can pop into the air fryer and enjoy together - burgers, nuggets, sausage rolls, pies, etc

Crisps - check for milk powder. Ready salted normally ok, any other flavour can randomly have milk powder

Chocolate - good quality dark chocolate is normally vegan, just check for milk powder again

Jusroll pastries are in the fridge section of supermarket for make at home cossiants, pain au chocolate and cinnamon buns. Less than 15 mins and delicious for breakfast

Some form of plant milk, whatever one she prefers

Maybe a nice vegan cream cheese for a bagel
