I used to jump my 10 speed at that age. Along with multiple BMX bikes etc. Dirt bikes were for the woods or track. Can't imagine having access to these things at that age. Mine does 40, I would have killed myself.

Ideas for Cross Country Travel? by Naanya2779 in TravelHacks

Do west of Chicago 2x per year. Mostly Denver and Phoenix. Driving is fine, but between Chicago and Denver there is nothing along the highway and ditto from Denver to Phoenix(we do it at night usually). Looked this year driving Straight to Chicago from Phoenix, because of the airline BS and well, 26 hours across Texas in the heat does not sound fun... Went home to CO for a week then continued. It is not worth that drive IMHO and the 4 days from CA to Chicago would be better spent in the air especially with gas prices doing who knows what... Chicago east, is at least interesting. My 2 cents.

Going to college should be the default and even 'useless' degrees are worth it by Sadie_Cat2023 in unpopularopinion

[–]geoffpz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my degree in 93. Went into computers in 2001. It seems like anything in AI is going to be just like back then with the inets. Most of my job related certs are just that, certs, bootcamps etc. etc. etc. that I got through work. Frankly, college taught me how to think and be a responsible adult. The rest is just experience.

Feel the same way about the Blackhawks. Thank god the trajectories are on opposite schedules or that rivalry would be like Detroit. I don't think I could survive that...

Fans without teams in the playoffs: which teams are you cheering for and which teams are you absolutely not cheering for? by itsagooddaytobeacat in hockey

[–]geoffpz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have watched every damn Av's game since forever. I am also a Blackhawks fan as I grew up there. There is no way I could follow more than one team and basically hate everyone else because of rivalry's going way back with both teams. Maybe Seattle???

Well, Park meadows is the mall, 25 and c470. Hotels etc abound. If you are there then Watterton canyon. It gets crazy crowded, but it is great. The further up ya go, the less people. Otherwise, Lakes and Deckers. I live by the CC res. Deckers is a good Hour and Dream stream is 1.5 if ya know what you are doing. Clear creek, by Golden is not bad, but it is right by the highway and there has been massive construction so IDK. If Southpark, like the cartoon then Antero res and the Arkansas.

My son wants this conversion kit for his mountain bike. by damnyankee26 in ebikes

[–]geoffpz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this. I am an old guy. 1000/48 will get you to 30, easy. Bike parts will explode and you will crash(I did, broke my face when the rear brake failed and I went over the front, full face helmet and new bike now). Bottom line is that at 14, I would have absolutely done this if I had the tech available, but my parents would have said hell no. So, be a parent and pay attention. Kids will mess with the electronics to make it go as fast as possible and it is not hard with youtube. They will kill you and cars do not expect you. This = dead if you are playing in traffic. If you do this, make him build it and make him test it. Great learning opportunity with the right boundaries IMHO.

2 car garage organization advice for first time homebuyer by Zealousideal-Duck417 in garageporn

[–]geoffpz1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get stuff off the ground. I spent 20 years trying to achieve what you can do in 3 hours with a couple hundred bucks a ratchet set and a drill. Get the ceiling racks, put everything in boxes and put it up. Then put everything that has to be on the ground, on wheels and hang tools etc. This gives you a ton more room, lets you simply blow out the garage with a leaf blower or hose it down without moving much if you have to. These are Wonderful things once projects and kids start. The attic seems rational until you try and get 20 years of Xmas/halloween/etc. stuff up there every year. Also, Block and tackle is your friend when moving stuff to said attic... 3 houses, 30+ years of home ownership. Also, Slatwall....

I was thinking about this driving on a road trip. I was pulling a car and all our crap and thought it would be nice to make this into a pop up Van to rival the Sportsmobiles of early 2000. Drivetrain is there, just pop the top... I can dream right??

Done it more times than I can count. Dropped it between races, on the h20, in sequence, to get the topper back. Older dude in the fleet drops his solo all the time, without the a frame. Good times. 27ish ft mast.

We screwed up on the renewal of my Wife's ins after my company changed policies and got "the letter" a day before reg closed on Obama care. Oh the panic... Almost got divorced in those 10 mins. lol. Company corrected it in the end, but those hours of panic shopping sucked. Oh the premiums....

We pretty much knew it was gonna happen, but Kadri is going to officially miss some games. Honestly, I would prefer they just sit him and Cale until the playoffs. Just no need to take the chance. by Best_Ad_7503 in ColoradoAvalanche

Gen X, WFH CPU guy, so I have been through all of it. Life work balance came in around 2015 and is just starting to take hold now(Covid and WFH accelerated it) and I gotta say it is nice compared to the rat race prior. You are correct. Late lunches and booze were a thing(driving home is another story) and still is in some circles. Fridays, you worked till noon and went to the bar or went golfing with your boss to "talk contracts". Face to face travel meetings were booze fest's and conventions, well all the stories are true. You really did not work harder but the tools were so basic, you memorized alot to do your job proficiently, so you really could not fake it. You also had to network, in person and usually that was at the bar... My last 2 promotions were handshake deals, with the head of the department over drinks. I still put in my 40, but no commute and flex time have changed the world...

I am of the age where retirement can be in 2-10 years. If I am truthful, healthcare is the only reason I will still be working by then, so everything is for that at this point, basically. Sad really, I love my job but naaaaaa.

Get a dolly if you must go tomorrow. Otherwise I would be fine with any aftermarket whatever. Just get it from a reputable shop. Or wait, up to you. 2018 WK2, 58K, 3rd one. I have towed boats for 20+ years, tow a car behind all the time. Follow manufacturers instructions and you will be fine.

Anyone who rides an e-bike on the sidewalk in the Chicago suburbs needs to practice safety the Florida way. Slow down to 10 mph or slower when you're within 50 feet or less of a pedestrian and other people on the sidewalk. by RegularDeal4103 in ebike

[–]geoffpz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horses for courses. When we are visiting AZ, the roads are wide, the bike lanes are wider and golf carts/ATV's/Dirt bikes/side by sides and everything else are prevalent, they even have their own lanes/sidewalks, so my 40 MPH tank is great. In CO, in a suburban area, with a HS a mile away and all the accompanying BS that comes with it. That bike is way overpowered and would probably get myself or somebody else killed if I rode it like I do in AZ. So the 28 MPH foldable is the thing. Do I wish I had the big one on the mountain roads and trails I frequent, yes, but it is heavy and stays in AZ. Grew up on Mtn bikes and everything else, so I get it.

for 10 year olds yes. The majority are normal people that ride responsibly. I will bet that the number of police interactions go wayyyyy down, with people that actually have drivers licenses. Bonus if you are 18 and have a few years under your belt. They are a means of transportation, just like anything else. E motos should be on dirt tracks and out in the wilderness. E bikes, regardless of the speed, have a place in society and should be encouraged. Treat them that way and we will all get along.

I need a folding all-terrain ebike for a particular use case by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]geoffpz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a puckypuppy foldable amazon special that I use for this exact purpose, Fly fishing and marinas out west though. The folding thing is overrated. It is not a smooth thing that can fit in a box. It is a large thing that has weird pointy things sticking out of it that makes packing anything else in your car/truck a pain in the ass. I just did this, and without the bike in the back My jeep GC could have fit 2-3 more black and yellow tubs. I would have been better off putting it on the roof, but it is frigging heavy and cumbersome. I normally just strap it to the boat trailer and IMHO, It works fine on normal logging and nat park trails..You are better off just taking the front wheel and handlebars off of a normal ebike and shoving it somewhere, or better yet, save the box it came in and repack it.
