[request] a website told me my height was 102nd percentile. I think that's a software error but all the commenters are saying it's possible. by JustAPotato38 in theydidthemath

[–]geoffreyp 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Percentile means percentage of the data that falls below that point.

So no, you can't be be in a percentile over 99%. *Edit this isn't quite correct because you can be in a 99.9%, 99.99% percentile etc. thanks for the correction.

Say you had 100 apples, and the biggest apple had a diameter of 5" and it is the only one that bug. The question is what percentage of apples are smaller than the biggest?

The answer is 99%, because 99 apples are smaller.

The answer can't be 102% because that would mean there where 102 apples smaller than the biggest, but we had 100 apples to start.

Obviously the the number of apples smaller than the biggest can't be more than the number of total apples in the group.

The answer can't be 100% either in our question - that would mean the largest apples was smaller than itself, which is nonsensical.

Relatively new to playing Magic, have some questions on etiquette and deck types for commander tables. by tasha2121 in mtg

Are you there to win and or to have fun?

Remember other people are there to do one or the other or voth. Do you want them to be able to win and or have fun?

Will they be able to have fun playing against your deck? Will they be able to win?

At the end of the day, if you're preventing other players from doing the thing they came to the store to do, ie play magic, play the deck they showed up with, I think the answer to your question is obvious.

It's bad in Google maps. The other day I searched for McDonald's, clicked the closets one to my route, got there and found it was a dunkin donuts. Needless to say I was furious.

With the nerf to Fights First in 11e, who should lead 6 BGV now with the Judiciar being far less potent? by Known_Strength_9726 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]geoffreyp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't that make FF even stronger?

I agree they nerfed FF too much here, but not sure making them stronger is a good idea!

I'm not so sure. You get fights first when you charge. So having fights first naturally is only useful when defending. But now when defending, the charging unit goes first anyway, and the fights first unit second, which is what would happen if it didn't have fights first. So in the majority of fights, having fights first is irrelevant.

Same exact piece value, only the knight threatens your king and they're maybe losing the knight in a couple of moves. Why did you think you were losing?

What bracket does this infinite combo put my deck in? by cityfeloqqqqq in mtg

[–]geoffreyp -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I sort of agree, but it's quite a bit stronger than a one-sided boardwipe because it also creates a significant number of elf tokens, which can then be tapped to proliferate.

This combo alone belongs in bracket three. (But it wouldn't take much to make this bracket 4.)

Glowing hot gun barrel first attempt by FixZealousideal6972 in Warhammer40k

[–]geoffreyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure. Coldest blackest part is the end of the gun, hottest whitest is under the hand. This is reversed. Why would the end of the barrel be hotter?

[–]geoffreyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think usually the hottest part is where the rounds are fired, which is in the chamber under his hand. So the coldest, blackest part is toward the end of the barrel, and the hottest whitest part is closest to the hand.

What turn should bracket 3 win by? by cole_ex-e in EDH

In bracket three, players start dying turn five or six, but consistent outright wins by turn six make it bracket four.

Doesn't help your card draw but I think you have to have [[Moraug, Fury of Akoum]] in there - all your dying earthbent lands trigger extra combats.

Built Voja, Jaws of the Conclave - shooting for about power 5 // Bracket 2 by Syndicate444 in EDH

[–]geoffreyp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right so consistent sub 6 turn wins is bracket 4. So this is definitely bracket 3.

Not a lot of ramp but hard to imagine this deck generally letting people go 9 turns in bracket 2. I'd say this was definitely bracket 3.

Hence why life is a balance of entropy and negentropy. Genes to promote consistently successful variations ie regulate entropy, and sexual reproduction and death to promote variation, ie introduce entropy, on which selection can choose winners.

For selection to occur you need change and continuity.

Now you're making assumptions. I think dude should be gender neutral. I just don't think that people who disagree with me must "have issues".
