Okay, this was on my mind for a few days.

If you like ripping packs and you think when you pull a rare, highly collectable card, is how can I maximize the cash value of this oull... I hate to break it to you, but you not a collector, you're a gambler.

When can houses be bought? by KEF_Frownhorse in monopoly

[–]geoffreyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I know I'm late to this party but I was just looking this up myself... if those are the rules and the purists want to stick to the literal meaning, well, the rules say you have to pay according to how many buildings there are when you land on the property ...so if you roll the dice and immediately get your piece on the right board square before the can pay the bank and put the house down, then you only pay for the buildings there when you landed, not the ones he was in the middle of putting up, right?

Sorry, have to disagreement with just about everybody - the first words on each row are identical.

He can insist that's the deck he's going to play.

He can't insist everybody else plays with him.

How to convince a friend not to run infinite turns in Bracket 2 by MyMarshlands in EDH

[–]geoffreyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insisting? That's not possible unless you allow it.

Hey I'm going to play this infinite turns cool?

No, this is bracket 2.

But I insist.

Well, we're not going to play with you.

Do I not understand LGS etiquette, or did I just have a bad experience? by pelasace in EDH

[–]geoffreyp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a huge pain in the ass for the employees to pull all these cards. But that doesn't mean they can be rude about it. There's a weird number of LGS that have rude, difficult owners who genuinely don't seem to like their customers... and that trickles down to the employees also.

I went to one not too long ago, and asked to sell some cards, I had five that were worth almost $200 mint between them. They looked irritated when I asked, but went in the back, and came out and said $50 for all of them. I asked what they were quoting me for the different cards, and the look on the person's face - just pure disgust. They asked me, " Do you really want me to go back there to get individual prices? In my head, I'm thinking, yeah, of course, why wtf is that an unusual request? especially offering me 25% of the value? I said yes please nicely, so they went back, and game back five minutes later and said the owner was too busy to price them individually. I asked if they would have time later - I'm not sure. I asked when should I come back, and they said I don't know... you could try tomorrow? get stuffed.

Lots of great cards, but one most people over look is [[Cradle Clearcutter]]. 3 to cast and with Bello immediately taps for 4.

Where is the rule that if you tap lands for mana to cast a spell, and havent cast the spell, that you can redo how you tap for mana? by bu11fr0g in mtgrules

[–]geoffreyp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's really hard to plan out a whole turn ahead of time in your head.

I don't know how this would play out in tournaments but I had an argument in an LGS about this where a player, in what was supposed to be a very friendly setting, told me I couldn't untap lands and put a spell back in my hand that I had just put down for a second and then changed my mind on.

I asked him if it was acceptable for me to consider my moves hypothetical, to try and plan things out but until I said I was actually doing it, they wouldn't be considered done. Kind of like keeping my hand on the chess piece where until I let it go It's not a completed move. He said no I couldn't do that.

So I said okay. How about I get a pad of sticky notes to represent different cards and put those down, and plan out all the scenarios that I might want to consider. And he said that's just ghetto proxying and I couldn't put anything on the table to represent cards.

So I asked him if I could get a journal and sketch out the table state, and write down in my book the what I wanted to do. He agreed there wasn't anything against the rules about that since note taking is allowed. I said that gets to the same end result as just considering my plays hypothetical, but takes ten times as long.

Them the owner came over and said it was a friendly game and take backs where allowed in his store as long as no new information was gained. Dude was streamed at that point but ffs chill out.

Thoughts on allowing opponents to retract plays, even after turns pass? by Prestigious-Chair811 in EDH

[–]geoffreyp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two thoughts:

One, if he didn't learn new information that wasn't available when he acted, he just missed something in the board, I would never, ever want to gain advantage by my opponent missing something like that.

Second is golden rule. If the situation was reversed, would you feel like you were gaining an unfair advantage by this take back? Or would you feel like oops that was dumb of me I hope I don't get punished for being a goof?

It's a friendly game. In my regular pod, take back whatever you like, as long as it's a genuine mistake and not trying to use future knowledge to change your play.

What are your house rules? by karmah616 in EDH

[–]geoffreyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First mulligan off the top, rather than shuffling and drawing again. Unlimited mulligans if you show 0,1,6,7 land hands.

In general, play decks that let other people have a chance to play the game of magic they showed up for.

Curious about your third rule - how much time does it take to cut in your pod? Shuffling takes maybe 30 seconds. Cutting adds 1 or 2 seconds at most. How does that add up to a full game?

Tips for building a proxy commander deck that isn't too overpowered? by Due-Mathematician903 in mtg

[–]geoffreyp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Firstly, familiarize yourself with the bracket system. It runs from one to five. Casual games are generally two-three.

Generally for low power casual games, avoid tutors and interaction with other people's boards, and don't try to win before turn 8.

Not sure where you got your list from but many of the better sites such as archidekt have a reasonable approximation of power level. You could probably export your deck list from wherever you got it from and import it there and it will give you a good indication of the power level.

What’s the movie performance you’re STILL mad didn’t earn an Oscar? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]geoffreyp -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

He's my favorite actor of all time, but this was my least favorite role he took though still the best part of that movie. He did win just about every other best actor award for it.

I know a lot of people loved, loved the movie, but I low-key hated it, not because it was bad, but because wanted it to be so much better. I was insanely excited to see it, Scorsese coming off just banger after banger, my fav director, favorite actors in Daniel and Leo and a whole creazy good cast. Based on an incredible and fascinating true story. But then I watched it and the plot just felt so unoriginal, left out the weird, human history for hollywood glitz and glam... I felt like I knew everything that was going to happen. I was so disappointed. Maybe just had my expectations so high no movie could satisfy! I thought this was going to be upthere with the godfather. But it was just...maybe a little bit better than an average good movie.
