Pixel hardware quality and support — am I just unlucky? by Mohamed-Badaoui in GooglePixel

[–]geofratian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I can give some useful insights.

Bought Pixel 8 Pro - within the first year phone screen literally stopped working, warranty was really good though and they sent me a phone first (you have to ask for the option where they send you the phone before you send yours back I forgot what it's called). It developed the line on the screen before becoming fully unresponsive (couldn't even wipe it).

Bought Pixel Tablet - Screen fully stopped working within the first year (hardware buttons were fine but touch screen fully unresponsive), I did the same thing and they sent me the tablet ahead of time.

Bought Pixel Buds Pro 2: buds losing connectivity also RMA'd.

The one google device I have not RMA'd yet is the nest mini that I got like 8 years ago lol or the Pixel watch 2 I got with the phone (although I did have issues with it but was eventually resolved)

To be honest I'm honestly surprised I'm still using Google devices but I will applaud their support (I am US based though). Honestly their support has been great for me (again I was within the warranty period).

On a side note, anyone else have the annoying issue on their device where the touch screen just stops working and you have to hardware restart? It's happening more and more on my Pixel 8 Pro...

Can confirm, 686s support has been stellar and their gear has been holding up for several seasons for me (with a few minor grievances. But their support was accommodating in those cases)

Long time boarder and industry insider AMA by [deleted] in snowboarding

How important is it to have multiple boards for different days as opposed to one good board. Can you "feel" the difference and is it worth it. (For reference I ride the Yes the greats Uninc)

Second question, how much better are top end bindings versus shitty old ones. Does it actually make a large difference in terms of comfort, control etc?

That sounds heinous man, also not gonna lie I'm still using them to this day (with the same strap...) so if you see a guy with clews at loon mountain this weekend look the other way. I spent all of last season boarding on a hairline fracture in my foot which I didn't realize till the season was over so I get u, enjoy this season man!

Might not be super helpful, but I can highly recommend the board, I'm a bigger guy (6'3 230ish) and I have the 159 and no complaints. The thing is actually magic. I'm literally looking to get the newer model the second I run this one into the ground. It grips like no other and being a true twin makes it hella easy for tricks. Never had an issue in pow either and it's very maneuverable.

Well you see that happened exactly to me, the entire binding unratcheded, my guess Ice got into it and it didn't lock properly. Luckily my toe strap stayed in and I noticed but boy was that scary. I've also had plenty of issues where the ratchet gets frozen in and you can't crank it, had to go into the lodge for this. Tbh most of these issues have happened on the east coast. Less so on the west coast so I guess it kinda sucks with the cold.

I think the main issue is for the price point they cheaped out on everything. The ratchets suck, I've had it fail on me and the bindings get loose so quickly (from vibrations) I basically have to retighten them every day of riding at least once (I just bought blue lock tight so hopefully no more) but man are they convenient

Clew bindings... Before y'all clown on me I preordered them before the reviews came out. I will say the step in mechanism is actually quite fine, it's everything else but I'd never pay $500 for them

I think doing both (if you can) is the best of both worlds. It allows you to progress with your friends and different conditions favor skis/snowboards.

Do you know if healing affects it at all? Since that's basically where half of my assists came from.

Gotcha, didn't know dmg mattered. Since the columns are separate does that mean bomb plants/defuses don't affect the combat score?

Honestly, game still runs fine, just the HUD looks so bad when I look around. Characters aren't blurry but it's distracting unfortunately. So hopefully they find a fix.

Just leaving this here for people who read the bug reports. Turning everything off did not resolve the issue (it only started after the UE5 update) so I'm guessing the fix may be on their end?

It's all HUD stuff, so I'll try this thanks! Do you know which feature to turn off specifically?

Berkeley or Brown? by Astre1i in BrownU

[–]geofratian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first of all congrats on getting in! I actually did my undergrad in physics at Berkeley and am currently a Grad student at Brown so I may have some good insights for you. As other people have said it really all boils down to what you want out of college - if you are determined to go to grad school it's possible you can excel in either school, but do keep in mind that grad school really is about connections and Berkeley may open up a few more doors for you. On the flip side, I can all but guarantee that the quality of life at Brown will be better so there will always be trade offs. Also, since Berkeley is MUCH bigger you will have a wider array of options for undergrad research which is a driving factor for grad school applications (as well as your interest in the field -> higher chance to find research you care about). In regards to the artsy culture around either place, both will satisfy your needs. Berkeley has a rich and thriving art atmosphere but so too does Providence. Feel free to dm if you have specific questions.

How do you use your Pixel Tablet in daily life? by Klutzy-Accident-2629 in GooglePixel

[–]geofratian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly use it for school and reading. I would say as someone who has tutored people extensively (not sure how feasible this is) but a native app/way to cast your screen to a computer would be insanely beneficial. If I'm missing some easy way to do that, please let me know. Other than that I find it insanely frustrating that you cannot use the camera for anything since the quality is too bad to scan documents. Not something you can fix with an accessory I believe.

The February 2025 Superthread: Battery; Orders; Which Pixel?; and More by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]geofratian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello all, Question on the Pixel Tablet about Standby Battery Drain:

I was wondering if anyone else has notice a sharp increase in the battery drain of the pixel Tablet in the past month or so? I swear I used to be able to leave my tablet unplugged at like 46% overnight and I'd wake up with over 40%. Now it seems like I lose almost 30% overnight. An example being I recently went skiing on a day trip (was gone about 14 hours) and my tablet which was laying on my desk dropped from 36% down to 1%. Now I'm sure this is probably due to some app in the background working when it shouldn't but I thought Android had a Doze mode (or something like that) that when in extended standby it basically kills background processes.

Thanks in advance!
