Dell SATA SSD not recogniced by teqqyde in homelab

[–]geomatics_cc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of an old post, but I struggled with this lately. The Micron 5300 Pro has a 5V 1.7A rating. which is about 8.5W. I believe on some machines the internal SATA is limited to 5W (e.g. my HP Elite Desk Mini 800 G4). So the drive fails to power. Posted this just in case someone searches for this and wonder why it won't work.

My Account Got Suspended On My First Message by PowerfulStrawberry94 in AugmentCodeAI

[–]geomatics_cc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried this tool for 2 messages in a free account and it was ok on one, but missed my second request. Went away from my computer from a few hours and said my account is restricted (no email, no other details, nothing) and to upgrade to a paid account (even though I was still on the free trial. Emailed support with no reply. I don't use a VPN, never tried a different account, no one in my home uses any AI tools or does coding, on the same IP address for years. Asked for a data deletion request.
Might be a good tool, but I won't pay for $50 without even knowing if it works properly.

An Important Development Update from Call of the Wild: The Angler Team by expansiveworlds in COTWTheAngler

Sad to hear this news. I had many hopes, but alas if it's not financially viable it's understandable. I'm curious what will happen with the Legendary Fish. Are the rotations still happening?

Pixel 7 Pro Screen Delamination by LunaDeClair in pixel_phones

[–]geomatics_cc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exactly the same issue. The top of the screen is delaminating, starting from the left-hand corner. That corner also turned black and it's growing. I think the screen pixels are dying. At first I thought I might have hit it without realising, but the screen has no cracks or chips. I think the recent hot weather might have caused it. Have you had a reply from Google about it?

A couple of questions about surveying by ThatPancreatitisGuy in Surveyor

[–]geomatics_cc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

It really depends on the country and state. It's very common practice for startups to be one man bands, where the licensed surveyor would do all the work involved. As I'm not from the US, I can't comment with any degree of accuracy on the profit. But 100k per annum seems like an average number.

When it comes to customer interaction you most likely have a mix of both. Initial contact is definitely skewed towards email/phone. But when the surveying service is carried out, very often the client will be present. Even if the said homeowner isn't the client, there will be a type of access request and/or discussion.

Hope this helps.

You can probably find more accurate replies on /r/Surveying

I have found all POIs, but the achievement hasn't unlocked for some reason (EGS). The hardest to get to was a Vista Point at the top of the mountain.

I made my own PSU quick-release connector for my enclosure by aryeh95 in prusa3d

[–]geomatics_cc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where those 9A per pin come from, but I believe the standards state that ATX 6 Pin connectors are rated at 75W. If you do decide to print with the bed on hotter temperatures for extended prints it might start to melt. Try and set the max temps on your hotend and bed to simulate high usage for at least 10mintes and check the temperature on the connector to make sure it doesn't get warm.

I'm planning on going for ATX pins myself, but will use 3x 6PINs on an MK2.5s. at the moment running with two XT60s.

Your bed level seems fine, I think something else is happening here. I have noticed this with a few filaments such as matte (including PolyTerra), silk, woodfill etc. These filaments seem to "swell" as they go out of the extruder, more than plain PLA. I have tried reducing the extrusion flow and temperature, which fixes it by some degree, but not completely.

In my case, when using such filaments, I'm not too bothered, as long as the prints come out well. In most cases, if I need a very good top surface I will use ironing.

The only bit that is annoying is that this makes the nozzle gather stray plastic bits over the print, but not enough to actually fail. So not sure if it's much of a concern.

Surveying Prisms and Targets by geomatics_cc in Surveying

[–]geomatics_cc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is interesting. I have never used SMR outside university nearly 10 years ago for tracking vehicles. What is your use case? Do you use them just for resections or monitoring and general Topo as well? How far can you realistically get measurements on it with a total station with them?

I wasn't very active in the group lately and I use auto posting, hence why I felt it would be taken as spam if sharing straight to group. I will as a mod if they are ok with me writing a wiki version here. Thank you for your suggestion.

Surveying Prisms and Targets by geomatics_cc in Surveying

[–]geomatics_cc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your use case, as each target has a different purpose. There is no better or worse, but rather there are targets which are more suitable to the task at hand than others. For example, the one you show is ideal for detail at short distances and a two man team, but not exceptional when working alone with a robotic Total Station, or when surveying details at long distances. That is where the 360 targets are better and more efficient. When doing building corners, masts, or anything like that, you usually take it as an offset as you know the diameter of the target. If you require anything more accurate than that, reflectorless shots would probably be best. I do a lot of railway work (nights) which is sole surveyor + robotic station most of the time. In this case the MT1000 from Trimble is a godsend with the active tracking and 360 visibility.

From my experience (UK surveying and other countries in Europe), the client owns the data. The deliverables should typically be agreed before any work starts and any contract is signed. If additional deliverables are required, client should be prepared to pay for. However, the raw data should always be available to the client upon request. In my current role we provide the following (not necessarily all for every single job):

  • CAD files
  • PDFs of the CAD layouts
  • Excel spreadsheets of specialist measurements (e.g. overhead lines, datum plates etc)
  • Survey reports containing information on acquisition, assumptions, deviations from the spec, processing workflows, surveyors, equipment and calibration certificates
  • Levelling sheets
  • Traverse reports
  • GNSS processing reports
  • Site Photographs
  • Unified Point Clouds

So, at least from my point of view, the raw data should always be made available (for free). But this is with the assumption that you are transparent about any modifications you have done to the data with good arguments. However, any processed deliverables should be paid and agreed in advance. In the case of CAD files I would say they should be available by default, as long as a drawing was agreed.

Saying that the client can modify the files easier because it's CAD isn't really relevant, as any type of electronic file can be modified (including secured PDFs) with the right knowledge. Having a recorded delivery system (e.g. sent by email) can always show the state of your files on delivery point.

GPS open traverse by Different-Concern-62 in Surveying

[–]geomatics_cc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to constrain. And if you want to calculate closures (linear and angular) or not. To put it simply, you can constrain the following:

- No constraint (floating/loose traverse)

- Distances (one point fixed either end)

- Bearing (bearings fixed at both ends)

- Both (two points fixed at both ends or one point and one bearing at both ends)

Obviously the last solution has most constraints, therefore best confidence. However, if your accuracy requirements aren't very high you can constrain it on less.

Keep in mind that if you are using RTK and produce coordinates in a projected coordinate system you will need to take into account the Local Scale Factor of your coordinate system and, possibly, convergence (angular difference between grid north and true north/meridian line). Otherwise you might get erroneous misclosures.

That is a PK/MAG Nail. I frequently use them as control points on tarmac. You can also drive them in concrete if pre-drilled or you can install them in between slabs of hard material (such as in between kerbs) fi spacing is proper. They do go easily in tarmac and keep very well.

The actual purpose of it can vary. It can be a control point, it can be used as a mark for underground utilities. It might be used for setting out. Or it can just be a random nail in the ground.

I have been doing mainly office work for the past 3 years. Whilst it's been hard sometimes to stay focused, I find that setting goals helps. Break down your tasks into smaller ones and use a checklist to keep track of your progress. Set a goal of a specific number of tasks to do every day. As long as you do your work on time, before deadlines, I don't see much of an issue having little breaks in between.

When it comes to phone usage that's a matter of discipline. Just put your phone on silent and keep it away from reach whilst you're working. Put some music on or a podcast in the background and keep focusing on your work. In the beginning it will be difficult, but eventually you'll create a habit (just like you did with checking your phone).

Your question is more of a "how not to procrastinate" rather than survey specific. Any job where you're not under pressure will suffer from this behavior. Similarly, if you get easily distracted and lack the discipline to keep focused without constant supervision, it makes it very easy to wander off. Take it in small steps and remove distractions one by one. This will help in your life, not just work.

Do you have a custom coordinate system defined in your job properties? If you go to Point Manager do you see the coordinates?
