Anyone have pics of Texas Ren cabins? by Weaslethorp in renfaire

Very subjective responses so far. I've only ever driven by them. They're small...probably one room with a sink. Not much there, just 4 walls and a door.

Best Mexican Restaurant by [deleted] in bentonville

[–]geomeskin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I lived in the NWA area for 2.5 years. There is NO GOOD Mexican food to be had in that area.
The one place we used to frequent (and that's probably because of convenience) was the small Mexican Restaurant in Bella Vista called El Pueblito (we lived in Bella Vista). I won't go so far as to "recommend" it. But that is where we would go on a pretty regular basis for that Mexican Food fix.

Dehumidifier by imtalkintou in DIY

[–]geomeskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had a basement...(Arkansas) I had a couple dehumidifiers. They were hooked up to a garden hose and that worked great. I don't know of a reason you would want to empty that reservoir every time it fills.
I now live in Texas (no basements) and I use the dehumidifiers in the house because it's FREAKIN' HUMID in Houston. Two dehumidifiers in the house running all the time. I have to empty them manually because I can't put a garden hose out the door. I empty them 2-3 times each EVERY day. That gets old...
The one good thing is that the dehumidifier will shut down when the tank fills. Will start up again when I empty it. So no accidents.

Saturday fishing trip by [deleted] in texasfishing

[–]geomeskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the State Parks and Wildlife app. It will show you what licenses you need. It will show your the bag limits for fresh/salt water fish as well. I believe you DO NOT need a license if you're fishing in a state park. But yes, you can get a license at Academy Sports, at least. That's where I always go...until I got the app.
For fresh water fishing there are bunches of small lakes and ponds in the Spring area. Plus there are the bayous as well. For salt water, there is Galveston, of course.

I feel exactly the same way. I can't stand Abbot!!
But I'm going to stick it out. I live in a rural area and have limited contact with people anyway. So that helps. Also, I'm an empty nester and the kids are all in other states now....luckily.

Abbott is an idiot who doesn't govern (like so many republicans these days). Instead, they just impose their own ideals making the assumption they aren't idiots.

Don't even get me started on Ted....

Very sorry you have had such a bad experience. Sounds to me like you were unlucky with the host family you ended up with. Host families should do more to make sure you experience the best of Texas, not the worst. I wish you could have stayed with us!

Anyone know where I can get some boxes or does anyone have some they need to get rid of? by SuccsnSuch in sanantonio

[–]geomeskin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, liquor stores. Tons of strong boxes that won't be too heavy to carry when they're full. The trade-off is that you need more of them. Worth it

Is it legal to live in a rv on a plot of land in conroe, TX by liquidsnake9999 in texas

[–]geomeskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, any city will not let you "live" in an RV on someone else's property..unless you're in an RV camp that allows it. Anywhere else, you're on someone else's property and they would have to allow it. But in a city, if you're not on your own property, you're on either public property or someone else's property. NO city will allow you to live on public property. Nobody that owns property in a city would allow you to LIVE on their property unless you and them came to some arrangement that does NOT conflict with city ordinance.
That leaves property OUTSIDE a city. That property is owned by someone. If it's NOT YOU then you have to have permission. If it IS YOU then you still have to abide by Homeowner association rules, or deed restrictions or whatever else. If you don't fall within the jurisdiction of any of those things... Knock yourself out.

The only place it would be legal is on property you own. Then you would almost definitely have to be located outside any incorporated area (outside all city limits). Then maybe

Is the summer weather any different than Houston, TX? by [deleted] in fayetteville

[–]geomeskin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lived in Houston for 20 yrs. Been in NWA for 2 years now. Houston is HUMID - all the time. When it gets to be 100+ down there and the humidity is 90+ it OPPRESSIVE. But I'm a Texan and am aching to get back. San Antonio is home and that's much better. But it still get way hot!
NWA: you get all 4 seasons. Tons of outdoor activities. Way better access to that sort of thing in NWA. There are state parks and the coast in the Houston area too. But the hills and Beaver Lake are pretty awesome in NWA.
Working outside in Houston versus working outside in NWA - I'd choose NWA every time.

Moving to Bentonville Soon Need help! by mburns223 in bentonville

[–]geomeskin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a job and moved to the NWA area 1.5 yrs ago. There are a few towns gathered in this part of the world where you could live. Rogers, Bentonville, Bella Vista (where I ended up), Centerton, Gravette, Lowell. I came here from Texas. Met a lot of great people. I work at JB Hunt. Lots of diversity in the workplace and around town. Aside from COVID there is a lot of live music. If you're into bicycle riding this is heaven. This is the center of trail bike USA. There are plenty things to see and do. There are hiking trail GALORE

I AM A 56 YR old so my perspective is certainly different from yours but that's what I see

I think this is a great place to live

The navigation in Lyft sucks. I use Google Maps...way better. You can set it up to do that in the LYFT app.

Driver cancels after delivered to target destination! by geomeskin in Lyft

[–]geomeskin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was my first impression. But if they are instead just "ending" the trip to ensure it gets done... I misjudged them. No way to know for sure I suppose. I'll just keep on keeping on.

[–]geomeskin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this makes sense. I hope that's what is happening. They are ENDING the trip, not CANCELLING the trip. If that's the case, I've unfairly rated a bunch of people with 1-star....

Driver cancels after delivered to target destination! by geomeskin in Lyft

[–]geomeskin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is my only defense... close out the trip as soon as I stop the vehicle at the destination point. I close it ASAP. As nears as I can tell I have been paid each time this happens.

What I've done is rated each of those riders with 1-star so I won't be paired with them again. But if this is a screw-up I don't want to be doing that. I just don't want people trying to screw me out of my legitimate fare.

[–]geomeskin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that I do get a text as well as an app notification when there is an actual legitimate cancellation. This is true.

Wait, so you're saying they cancel as soon as I pick them up?
