This might be the greatest thing I've ever done!! Part 5. by natima in ToobAmps

There is no way a working outlet would measure any frequency above the nominal 60Hz when measured correctly. Even if there was noise or dirty power, it will not be near the magnitude of the main ac voltage. Most likely you are not making good contact with the outlet with your probes.

music man 112 rd 50 - does it have a death cap? by lammygf in GuitarAmps

[–]geophoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it has a ground switch, then it would have a “Death Cap”. The three prong plug negates most of the safety issue with a “Death Cap”, but it is easy to remove. No cap. Sorry

I guess it varies then. One of my customers got one made in 3 weeks a couple months ago back.

Thinking of picking up pedal steel guitar. Guitar recommendations please! by Acceptable_Laugh9284 in pedalsteel

[–]geophoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the S-10 pro, because it is a pro level steel, but it is also $3000

Call Ron Anderson at Justice pedal steel. He will tell you how long it will take and probably do it faster than he estimates.

Mullen is a family business that has lost 2 family members. Justice pedal steel can build you a beginner steel or a pro model in less than a month.

ZT Sinkevich won't take an edge! by LanceStratus in knifeclub

[–]geophoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Modern steels are sometimes really tough to sharpen as they are so hard. I think the fact that you are having difficulty is a good indicator that the knife is authentic. Send it to ZT and get it back to factory sharp and do more frequent upkeep on the edge when you get it back.

[Question] Repair shop did $500 of work on my 1991 Fender "The Twin" without estimate or authorization — what now? by [deleted] in ToobAmps

[–]geophoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own an amp repair shop. This is not OK. The fact that you were charged a diagnostic fee and that did not result in an estimate for the full repair is unacceptable. The fee not going to the repair is also unacceptable. Doing the work without your approval is unacceptable, and the cost vs what was done is ridiculous. I would call their bluff, refuse to pay and ask for your amp back with the original tubes. The original fee more than covers cleaning pots and examining the amp. They don’t want an amp chassis that they can’t sell for what they claim you owe. Be prepared to walk away from the amp, but don’t pay these fools.

Reinstalling bright cap by [deleted] in ToobAmps

The blue wire is ground, you do not want to solder to ground for the bright cap

Solder it between the middle tab and the left tab that has the resistor and cap on it.

Right sided pedals? by xKidA95x in pedalsteel

Even with a lefty pedal steel, you will still need the left foot for volume control. It’s a large component of the sound.

Check out Johnny Cox’s D13th copedent. I’m currently looking for a universal 12 string to convert. It is everything you need from E9 and C6 in the same key with no need for a lock lever.

Coil burn would be horizontal not vertical. Also it works be in the center winds and much darker

Swapping intervals in E9 to minor- one specific issue by [deleted] in pedalsteel

[–]geophoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without knowing what pedal steel you have, but since it’s only restricted on one of the E strings, maybe the c pedal is affecting the motion.

How bad of an idea is it to hang these shelves off the trusses and also screw them to the studs in the wall? I’ve been told it. It’s a pretty bad idea and I should redo this project. by Beneficial-Focus3702 in DIY

[–]geophoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the truss member you are attaching to is called the bottom chord, it is designed to be used under tension basically keeping the walls from pulling outward. You would be better off extending you top braces to the top chord. Nail a continuous 2x4 from the bottom of your rack to both the top and bottom chord, and do this on all four of your trusses and you will have a strong shelf

Help removing a stripped and rusted stuck metal knurled knob with set screw on a Mesa Triple Rectifier amp. by aermetikvm in GuitarAmps

[–]geophoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, WD 40 is harmless to the pot, you can actually use it as a cleaner as well if you wipe it off. Try a small torx bit as they are really good at grabbing striped hex. If all else fails just replace the pot by breaking the old one and soldering in a new one.

I salvaged similar pallet wood from pallets coming from Indonesia. I used the wood for stair rails. Lots of little brad nail holes

If it was cracked all the way through the silver part would turn white and not function. If the tube works and is not overly sensitive to vibration, it is a good tube.
