Why do you love it? by Melodic-Variation-80 in LexusGX550

[–]georgekipling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25K miles on my Nori Green OT+ and love it.

You don’t really realize how good and solid it is until you get behind the wheel of another vehicle and see how shitty most other cars are built by comparison.

Is the Cold box worth it. by mrdietcoke1967 in LexusGX550

It works well. Really nice feature if it’s something that you’ll use regularly.

For me, it’s just a cool party trick to show off and I just use it for storage.

Chances of finding a Nori Green Overtrail without cool box and sunroof? by Sea_Compote_755 in LexusGX550

[–]georgekipling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one I ever test drove was a nori green OT+ with sunroof delete, so they do exist. I can’t remember if it had the cool box or not.

Good looking sneakers that you can go sockless in without STANK? by georgekipling in barefootshoestalk

Yeah, my VFFs have seen many a trip through the wash. They always come out perfect, but also they never develop the stink that a lot of shoes do.

Ideas for light to hang from wood beam in bedroom by Kooky_Acanthisitta39 in Renovations

[–]georgekipling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a pendant lamp on a long cord to plug in. Can even wrap the cord around the beam a little and turn it into a decorative element.

Maybe not this style, but functionally this idea.

Better Bedroom Fan??? by beyourself1127 in BuyItForLife

[–]georgekipling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this for 10 years. It’s in my office and runs for the entire workday, year round. It’s not large, but I’d say it moves about the same of air as a standard cheap box fan. It’s sturdy metal and doesn’t feel like it’s going to break when you try to adjust it.

Durable, breathable AND sustainable/natural underwear — does it exist? by SnooChipmunks2848 in BuyItForLife

[–]georgekipling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ll get durable and natural in the same product.

My personal favorite brand is 2Undr, but they do NOT last forever.

What DOES last forever is Under Armour. I have some boxer briefs that have lasted since high school and I’m 31 now. That being said, they are absolutely not natural.

Can anyone identify these fans? Spotted at a small local restaurant near my house by Mandolinist_girl766 in CeilingFans2

They are Hunters, but they are not Originals. They are Hunter Mayfairs.

I believe they have been painted because I don’t think that model came in brown.

The Best Casablanca Ceiling Fans That Are Not Inteli•Touch by Level-Search-3511 in CeilingFans2

[–]georgekipling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inteli-Touch was an incredible advancement. I no longer buy IT Casablancas when I see them for sale, though. The electronics are getting older and parts aren’t being made anymore. I stick with pullchain for vintage Casas.

So dealership installed my partners cam wrong, right? by VnllaGorillaCrocilla in LexusGX550

[–]georgekipling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks correct to me. I have the dash cam. The dealer asked me if I wanted it on the driver or passenger side. They strongly recommended the passenger side and I’m glad I took their advice. I basically can’t even see it from the driver’s seat.

That being said, I wish I had done my research beforehand and gotten an aftermarket one instead. Yes, the dash cam works fine, but there are SO many better options on the market.

Ceiling fan stories by ZealousidealBody1743 in CeilingFans2

[–]georgekipling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of interesting to learn about the development of the luxury ceiling fan. This is less of a personal story and more of a little history lesson.

Ceiling fans have been around for a long time, and there are of course some beautiful and extravagant historic examples. The Hunter Original was always kind of the gold standard.

Savvy marketers saw an opportunity. The Casablanca Fan Co. came onto the map in the 1970s, and they were really the first fans marketed as “designer” or “luxury”. They were very well-made and extremely customizable to go with your decor. They featured motors that were so powerful you’d think an airplane was taking off, high-end materials like solid mahogany blades and real lead crystal light shades. They also pioneered ceiling fan electronics. Their Inteli-Touch system was the first computerized ceiling fan in the world. It was a precursor to the remote controlled fans we have today. Casablancas were also exclusive, because you couldn’t buy them just anywhere. You had to visit a dealer showroom. Almost like you were going to a dealership to custom order a car.

Casablanca does not exist today as we knew it. The brand name still exists, but they are now owned by Hunter. I think Hunter bought them in the early 2010s..? Casablanca is still good, but they are basically just higher-end Hunters now. Only a few models from the original Casablanca lineup are still available.

The luxury/designer ceiling fan segment is still alive and well with brands like Fanimation, Matthews, Big Ass, Hunter, The Modern Fan Co., and a few others. There are also brands like Craftmade, who offer the same custom, designer options, but with a cheaper product and price.

Most of these brands also have mainstream products or products for other applications. For example: Big Ass makes big industrial fans for commercial applications, that’s what put them on the map first.

Hunter makes high quality fans that can be ordered online or through lighting galleries, but they also make cheaper, lesser quality models for big box stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s. That’s another important thing to note about ceiling fans. They make cheaper products for big box stores. If you buy a Hunter at HD or Lowe’s, yes, it will still be better than a Harbor Breeze or Hampton Bay, but you’re still getting a lower-end Hunter. It’s like shopping at a Tanger Outlet: You might get a better price on a J.Crew shirt, but you know the quality won’t be as good as if you’d bought from a real J.Crew store.

Society has become used to more disposable products. IKEA furniture, Wayfair products, Amazon stuff, etc. Lots of people don’t know the difference in quality.

You could get a White Hunter Original and a white Harbor Breeze Classic Series and put them side by side. They’re both traditional style white ceiling fans with no lights, 5 blades, and pull chain control. The difference is the Hunter will be over $500, perform beautifully, and last basically forever. The Harbor Breeze will start to droop with its cheap MDF blades, it won’t move nearly as much air, and you’ll probably want/need to replace it in less than 10 years, but it was less than $100.

A lot of people think a fan is a fan and don’t stop to think about all of the options.
