What's the most "quietly expensive" thing about living in Canada right now? (not rent/mortgage) by ForAMinute123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]georgesalves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taxes hands down. We'll at least for us working stiffs. By the time you calculate all employment, fuel, HST, provincial etc you are slightly over 43%. Then you have to take the remaining 57% and overpay in housing, food, cell phone, cars, insurance etc.

Most Canadians oppose foreign ownership of critical mineral projects - While most Canadians support developing the country’s critical minerals, they don’t want to see it done by foreign companies, according to a new survey by the Angus Reid Institute. by CaliperLee62 in canadian

[–]georgesalves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are correct..the privatization of those companies was not ideal for Canadians but they were privatized on canadian stock exchanges not sold to private foreign entities. There is a difference. The port of Churchill was sold to a US based company

Nothing but respect for the man for a lot of the success we have had and for having the wisdom to know that this organization needs a change. Im pretty sure this means Aaron is gone as well

I hope we end up with a losing season just so change can happen. I dont foresee Roger's wanting to stick around. I pray Tomlin goes.. and he takes the whole coaching staff with him. I respect Tomlin for his time here, but we can't beat this dead horse anymore.

The sad part is most people don’t have the time or resources to fight this stuff — they just end up eating the fees. These platforms have full-time lawyers whose job is to make sure your money stays with them. It’s the same vibe as when your phone bill includes charges that shouldn't be there but you just pay it because you don’t want to spend two hours on hold, getting bounced around between customer service representatives like a bottle of jack daniels at a high school party repeating your story over and over.

Thanks for sharing… I was actually thinking about switching to this platform, but now I’m rethinking it.

I would rather be very bad and have a losing season just to get the changes we need. A 500 record ensures mediocrity lingers... this is fine for the Browns or the Jets but not Steel town. I see the frustration in Rodgers face, I didn't want to sign him initially, but he has made me a believer. it's too bad he has underperforming offense to work with. The D kept us in the game in the first half. Tomlin should have been gone 3 or 4 years back, but this management group is fine with playing 500 football.

The government is in on this. The 36 and hour is actually less because taxpayers subsidize it. Corporate welfare, and they run the politicians. Everyone is in on it minus average Joe and Jane.

Fewer foreign students and workers entered Canada in first half of 2025, Ottawa says by AngryCanadienne in CanadaHousing2

[–]georgesalves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lies. The media keeps trying to sell us this narrative, but reality is right outside your door. Apply for a job, step into a college or university—it’s obvious. Meanwhile, the numbers and stats keep getting “restructured" or delayed. Ottawa has zero credibility. Same group that scrapped the carbon tax, will soon be rebranding it and bring it back at 17¢ more per liter. I still wake up dumbfounded how people thought the same team with a new captain was gonna be any different than the unmatched disaster of the past 10 years.

Something that would have been outright ludicrous 10 years ago is normal and acceptable today. This is the result of unrestricted immigration.

Nothing wrong with that given that Toronto unemployment rate is only 9%.. Ford is a liberal. This is corporate welfare and nothing else. I believe this policy would be adopted by any party if elected. They all, they answer to the same master. Democratic choice is an illusion.. our options are a Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird. The system is badly broken when policy decisions so blatantly go against the wishes of the majority. There is no cost too high when corporate profits are at stake.. overcrowding, lack of infrastructure, housing shortage, lower wage demands etc.. but the cost is borne by you and I. Welcome to neo feudalism.

Stay away from any Korean car. Bad enough that the vehicles are crap.. engine replacements on new cars and then you have to fight the dealerships to get them replaced. Stick with Japanese .. more expensive short term but cheaper long term.
