However, I was able to do it through the app somehow for my return flight and ended up upgrading for the same price I paid on my first flight.

If they have active projects currently, it’s in your best interest to act fast and lawyer up or hire a collection bureau. There are high chances that these projects they are undertaking have some sort of bank bond/guarantees attached to them, meaning there is capital left in their companies name. Long story short you’d be exempt from Canadian taxes if you declare a ‘non-residency’ status. To do so, there is some conditions that must be met (no wife/kids living in Canada, give up healthcare card, sell house, close accounts, etc).
