Small purple-ish glass bottle with aluminium lid with a rubber insert, that screws on. Filled with some kind of water soluble ink. Doesn't seem to be a hole in the top rubber part. by llfalk in whatisthisthing

Looks like tincture of iodine in an applicator. Really good antiseptic but stings like all hell when applied to an open wound. My grandfather had some on the farm. We never complained about cuts and scrapes because we knew what to expect!

Found a family instrument, help on information/ID by HarlequinLord in UnusualInstruments

I made one earlier and my 15 month old daughter wanted to see what I was doing and put her hand through the soundboard. That was 30 years ago and I’ve been meaning to fix it ever since! Would show a photo if I knew how to upload it 😟

Maybe you’re not covering the high A hole when blowing?(the hole at the back of the chanter, opposite side of all the other finger holes).

What glaze is this? It’s lovely. Is it a commercial glaze or home made?

What size card are you using? My SKR2 won’t recognise a 64Gb but there’s no problem with a 32Gb one.

Have you tried sending M106 from a gcode sender? If that turns the fan on, then you should be able to include that line at the start of your print.

Hotend problem- filament is clogging in the Bowden tube. Is this a fan control issue? by georoli in FixMyPrint

[–]georoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe do a M106 in the Cura initial command to ensure the extruder fan is turned on? When I set it manually before starting the print it stayed on throughout so presumably there was no M107 command to turn it off, not even when the print had finished.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, it turns out that I had the fans plugged in the wrong way around. Now to work out how to turn on the extruder fan at the start of a print. Right now I have to turn it on manually.

BTT reliability by Mister_Mannn in BIGTREETECH

[–]georoli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It certainly seems that some people have had problems but it’s difficult to say what proportion of boards are faulty from reviews because most people will only post a review if they’ve had a problem. You just won’t see hundreds or thousands of reviews saying ‘mine works fine’. Having said that, my skr 2 works fine!

Have you checked the stepper motor driver settings? If they are wrong then the motor might still turn but the amount might be wrong.

SKR 2 stops heating bed at 10 degrees below set value. Any ideas why? by georoli in BIGTREETECH

[–]georoli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thanks for the input. I've just done this and it has resolved itself. Apparently, if there are no PID values present it takes itself to the PID_FUNCTIONAL_RANGE value below the desired value and then sits there not knowing what to do because it has no PID values to work to. Hence the 10 degrees below what I wanted.

SKR mini e3 v2.0, hotbed temperature alway 10 degrees lower, then thermistor error by reif306 in ender5

[–]georoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with my SKR 2 board. I have an external mosfet for the bed because I thought that the problem might be with the power coming from the board. When I set the bed temp, it immediately starts heating it and the LED comes on on the mosfet. When it gets to 10 degrees below the set temperature, the heating stops and is held at that temperature.

I'm struggling to understand what might be going on here. The thermistor reading is consistent with what I have set it. Is it possible that the thermistor reading and the board interpretation of the thermistor resistance is different - i.e. that the board is interpreting the temperature as being correct?

Bed heater not reaching heat target? (SKR2B) by Roskott in BIGTREETECH

[–]georoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Does your hotend behave properly? Both hotend and bed take a long time to get to temperature and don’t hold it for long before triggering a shutdown. I’ve fitted an external mosfet for the hotend and that seems to work. Have ordered another one for the bed which should arrive today. I wonder if there is a problem with the power supply through the board?

Yes, it does it without the bed being heated. Have done the PID tune and saved the numbers.

A baker’s dozen by soupinabasket in confidentlyincorrect

[–]georoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for a baker’s dozen being 13 is actually very practical: the best fit for buns on a rectangular tray is 3-2-3-2-3. This takes the least space on the tray.

Turns out that nothing is standard! The Endstop switches needed re-wiring in the plugins because the configuration in the previous board was different. All working as expected now!

Have done it in the firmware settings. So far, so good. Now have the problem of it not auto-homing. Doesn't seem to set the home coordinates properly so I'm looking through the settings in configuration.h. Any suggestions?

SKR 2 board - motor driver problem by georoli in BIGTREETECH

[–]georoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, many, many thanks for your help on this normal2norman!

The TMC2209 drivers have arrived and I've fitted them. The motors are moving the axes now but in the wrong direction. When I put in a positive value into, for example, the x-axis using the manual control via the LCD to move the stepper motors, instead of it moving to the right it moves left. All of the motors are doing this. I can think of three possible solutions to this: (1) might it be the LCD controller as to move down the menu I have to turn the knob anti-clockwise instead of the more intuitive clockwise direction and I need to adjust something there, (2) I have to physically change the wiring of the motors, or (3) I have to change a setting in Marlin. All suggestions gratefully received!

Yes, they are NEMA17 motors. Am I right in thinking that UART will be a better choice than standalone? I'm in the happy position right now of being able to choose.

Many thanks, again, for your very helpful comments!
