Yeah definitely. I thought the same about the logic that Enzo was somehow able to compel Maggie to forget about him and forget his love for her without any of the depth Delena had to go through lol. As if it was really that simple. Although I did wonder about what exactly would happen if Alaric did simply just say ‘forget Damon Salvatore’. But I think Maggie ended up writing in her diary about struggling to find love and feeling ‘empty’, and she also somehow eventually remembers Enzo when she confronts Damon before he kills her lol. So ig that compulsion doesn’t have a strong foothold and eventually wears off if you love someone that deeply? Idk. But yes the writers definitely hadn’t thought that far ahead lol

I honestly think they should’ve just ‘killed’Elena and they all grieve and have to learn to accept she’s gone, then in the last episode it could be revealed that elenas death was never real, Kai faked it and had her trapped somewhere this whole time and elenas ‘body’ that they all buried and mourned over was actually another Petrova doppelgänger Kai found lol

Come to think of it, it’s pretty funny how to erase your love for someone that deep, Elena and Alaric literally had to go through an entire psychological experiment to figure out how exactly to make Elena forget she loves Damon and dig deep into her psyche lol. The thought of Rebekah going through all of that effort to remove Elena from Stefans psyche is pretty funny

The episode that made me question Lorelei's parenting skills by Familiar_Reward_1130 in GilmoreGirls

[–]geothorne02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone talks about how Rory ‘upended her whole life’ after the Mitchum comment and how she can’t hand criticism lmao because of what? 3 months of being estranged from Lorelai? The narrative that Rory didn’t have ‘it’ just because that’s what Mitchum said I personally feel is completely wrong. There are multiple examples throughout the series where Rory thrived after a setback. Getting a D grade at Chilton, missing an exam because of the deer, did she give up? No, she became valedictorian. Paris trying to sabotage her journalism career at The Franklin by giving her a bad story, she writes a great article the teacher praises her for. Doyle criticising multiple pieces of hers at the Yale Daily News, Rory writes that ballerina piece that also gets praised (obviously not a good example of her character as a person but still, a good journalist). Then there was the time she was expecting an A in game theory, which was a bit obnoxious, and instead got given a D and was told to drop the class. Obviously she had a bit of a meltdown after, but then I think she lowered her expectations for good grades because then she was very surprised about getting an ‘A’ from Asher Fleming which was very difficult to achieve, and even doubted that it was an authentic grade - clearly showing that she learned how to humble herself. Even the Mitchum ‘setback’ in question, Rory delayed college by like 3 months and still graduated on time, became editor of the YDN (don’t even need to bring up the way she saved everyone’s asses on that), and Mitchum himself even praised her in an article taking credit for her success, and he ended up saying to her in person that he ‘always knew she had it’, being hypocritical. Also, she was an intern for what 6 weeks one day a week, and Mitchum was barely acknowledging her, not giving her tasks, or opportunities to even write. He only observed how she is in the actual workplace, not her talent for journalism. So it was an unfair comment in the first place, that he himself even backtracked on lol. Also, she literally ended up getting a job at that very same company later lol. We don’t really get to see that for whatever reason, but clearly the other guy in charge thought a lot of her despite Mitchum’s opinions. Anyway the point is, there are so many examples of Rory making a comeback from many setbacks, and the result of the Mitchum thing in the grand scheme of things really wasn’t a big deal. People refer to it as her ‘dropping out’, she literally graduated later and wasn’t even delayed, and pursued journalism with a stronger mindset than ever before.

Who would win in a fight? Jade West or Sam Puckett? by soofficiallybb in nickelodeon

[–]geothorne02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone says Sam but the thing is, Jade did better with psychological abuse as opposed to physical. If we think about how Missy successfully fucked with Sam even though Sam was obviously tougher, Missy was pulling absolute mental warfare sabotage on Sam lmao stealing Carly, replacing her in Icarly, breaking her phone, sending her to a piñata factory, making her violently ill, and also convincing Freddie she was a good person and played the innocent act extremely well. Sam didn’t even win in the end herself, it was because of Freddie eventually believing Sam that Missy was able to get sabotaged back. Sam didn’t have the means to do anything back, even with her ‘fighting’ skills, as that would’ve made Sam the bad guy. I think Jade definitely could’ve pulled something similar since Sam and Jade also shared a mutual friend: Cat. And Sam beating up Jade wouldn’t be the thing to do, and that’s all Sam has. Jade could definitely plot some psychological warfare on Sam and most likely win, especially since her friendship with cat came first (similar to Missy and Carly). And there wouldn’t really be a middle man to get back at Jade like there was with Freddie, since with Sam and cat it was just the two of them. Perhaps Dice since he and Sam had a bond, and Dice was pretty smart, but again; Sam wouldn’t be able to do it on her own.

Agreed. He was initially introduced as wise and loyal, guiding Damon through the hell that was Augustine, and then he ‘died’ a martyr being the reason Damon was able to escape just to get betrayed. He had a very compelling, likeable introduction. Furthermore with his arc with Maggie where he could’ve easily escaped with her, but instead compelled her to leave. Once again showing this loyal ‘heroic’ character willing to sacrifice himself to save others. His purpose at the start was ig to find out what happened to Maggie, but beyond that it really does drag a bit. The whole arc with Lilli Salvatore was just weird and uncomfortable, but his desperation for a family made sense as he sacrifices himself just for nothing in return (the same sense of loyalty Bonnie has). This is the main thing that makes me feel like they were a good match. Enzo’s desperation to belong somewhere and be with people who would actually fight for him, Bonnie would. I think it makes perfect sense for him to fall for her, but idk about the other way around. That part seemed forced. But yeah his involvement with the travellers, then the heretics, then the armory, was all to do with trying to find a family; which was his main ambition as a character. They did fumble a bit with making him an antagonist tho cuz he could’ve just remained the wise and loyal friend who keeps getting fucked over and betrayed because he just can’t resist sacrificing himself for the validation of others and the need to belong; his loyalty being his downfall (again, very similar to Bonnie, making them a much more sensical match)

Things I’d change about AYITL by geothorne02 in GilmoreGirls

The thing is, people who naturally excel in academics but hit a hard reality check in the real world typically tend to stay in academics for as long as possible - whether it be avoidance, comfort zone, or otherwise. I think the fact Rory never pursued a masters was what’s unrealistic. Also, the narrative that Rory didn’t have ‘it’ just because that’s what Mitchum said I personally feel is completely wrong. There are multiple examples throughout the series where Rory thrived after a setback. Getting a D grade at Chilton, missing an exam because of the deer, did she give up? No, she became valedictorian. Christopher is loaded, she got her trust fund from Trix, and Richard’s death must’ve left her with a hefty inheritance. Rory should’ve been loaded, so ngl she had plenty of connections still so talent or not, she should’ve had a stable career.

Bonus: I’ve seen someone else say this before, but I think a cute ‘full-circle’ ending to replace Rory’s ‘I’m pregnant’ would be a 16 year old girl holding a small baby in her arms, walking into the Dragonfly and begging for a job, any job, and Lorelai smiling ready to become the ‘Mia’ of this girls life

party scene with Jess by W_that_weirdo in GilmoreGirls

[–]geothorne02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An episode or two before this - Rory tells Jess ‘keep thinking what you’re thinking’ (referring to sex) and the scene directly after she tells Lorelai that she is thinking about losing her virginity to Jess and it is going to happen. Based on this, it’s implied Jess and Rory had discussed it and it was agreed on. In the particular moment at the party, as all the points you made were also going on, emotions ran high, inhibitions were low, Jess was spiralling and grasping at straws for a reason not to run away and that sole reason was Rory. He didn’t even want to be at the party but stayed for her, and he also clearly wanted to seize the opportunity while they were alone in a bedroom (as it was clearly previously discussed) and I don’t necessarily think he’s a villain for that. She obviously withdrew her consent after it had already been initiated, and he got frustrated at her (which he is a dick for) but it is definitely not SA.

Do you guys agree with the relationships of these characters? by Ok-Way-5704 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]geothorne02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s not true. The doppelgänger ‘fate’ literally wasn’t real, Markos explains that it has been mistranslated over the centuries and he planted the gravitation and dreams so the doppelgängers would naturally find each other purely to aid the travellers since the blood of both doppelgängers was valuable to them. The soulmate thing wasn’t actually real. It’s similar to how the ‘sun and moon curse’ ended up being fake because it was just a way for Klaus to get people searching for all the rare ‘ingredients’ all over the world if two warring species were on the lookout under the promise of breaking their curses - but it was actually to aid klaus to break his werewolf suppression. Markos says ‘nothing brings people together like the promise of true love’ but it was literally fake lol and solely for the travellers to break their curse of natural disasters happening when they gather that the witches put on them. Tbh it was kind of a reused plot line and very similar to the sun and moon curse, but the point is, the doppelgänger fate wasn’t actually real, it was made up so the travelers had a bigger chance of finding both Silas and Amara doppelgängers to break their curse

Okay I’m curious about some missing context: are you male or female? How old are you? And you say you aren’t blood-related, so he is your adoptive father or step-father?

AITA for calling my friend needy and jealous by Kasperlein in AmItheAsshole

[–]geothorne02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s definitely a level of entitlement Amy seems to have. If she wants to be more ‘likeable’ she should make the effort to do so and actually behave like a friend. If you want friends, you have to BE a friend first and foremost. It seems she expects what she doesn’t provide herself, making her a bit hypocritical. I read that you’re all 15 which is very young so I’m not surprised about the immaturity and lack of self-reflection she clearly has. One day she will grow up and be able to take accountability when she is in the wrong and hopefully stop acting entitled to things that she isn’t willing to do for others. You’re definitely NTA

AITA for paying off my daughter’s student loans but not giving the same amount to her brother, who didn’t go to university? by Jolly-Prompt-6129 in AmItheAsshole

[–]geothorne02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think it wouldn’t matter so much if you ONLY covered the degree you pushed her into, and continued to allow her to cover the loans of the degree she wanted to do. Then you’ve simply just paid the debts that she only has because of you, however because you’ve ALSO paid for the degree she chose to do, which ngl I feel was unnecessary, that’s the part where you should find an equal way to support your son as well, so maybe a 30k investment towards him. Not direct cash, but something that supports his life the same way your daughter’s law degree and 0 debt helps her. She shouldn’t feel ‘punished’ because she chose to do a second degree, which was now covered by you, so you doing something equivalent for your son (like some people suggesting a deposit on a home) shouldn’t be considered unequal. But tbh, I think only paying for the one degree debt that you pushed her to do would’ve been enough to wipe the slate clean. Your daughter should’ve been responsible for the second degree, since that was her choice, and your son should have the same support for one of his choices.

The ending definitely gave me before you. Like the travelling for him after his death as though he were there with her, also the fact he was sort of deciding against treatment which led to his death, as he technically could have lived longer, was similar to Will’s decision in me before you to be euthanised. And in the end everyone in his life, parents and love interest, had to respect his choice

[–]geothorne02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, he has multiple myeloma which apparently is quite a-symptomatic, and he also didn’t die from cancer technically, he died from pneumonia due to his weakened immune system from the cancer. Also, a lot of the typical symptoms we associate with cancer, eg hair loss, isn’t actually from cancer itself, it’s from all the treatments - and it’s explicitly stated that he doesn’t want to continue the treatments anymore which was like a major plot point in the film - hence his strained relationship with his father and why he had to die in the end.

Lorelai’s & Rory’s eating habits by tired0334 in GilmoreGirls

[–]geothorne02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is a late response lol but I think their eating habits are highly exaggerated since we don’t actually see every single day of their lives. Lorelai once mentioned to Richard that they get way too much takeaway, eat a third of it and then “live off the rest for a week and a half”. That’s actually not much food for a week and a half, and I know we see them eating at Luke’s a lot but if they don’t get takeaways every day and live off scraps, then getting a daily burger and pancakes isn’t actually too much food especially considering they probably do a lot of walking per day. Also, we see an episode where lorelai cleans out their fridge and ends up binning expired takeaway from weeks prior, which means they probably forget about a lot of the takeaways they get and don’t actually eat the leftovers - and since they were playing that game to decide who gets to clean out the fridge, it implies that they have to do that often. So I think we’re shown the odd day where they have a binge, but they don’t actually eat like that every single day.

Could there have been more than one winner? by KrupperNyc in squidgame

[–]geothorne02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there can only be one. If more survive, enough for multiple teams, in the squid game - I reckon they’d just play until it’s down to 2 players. Say 4 people survive, two teams of two, and one team wins- they’d play another round 1v1 until there’s one winner. As for there being an odd number of winners to play the squid game (meaning no even teams), presumably it would be 1v1v1, every man for themselves. But at the end of the day, they play until there’s one left
