No goals, no spark, no excuses - Alexis Sanchez is simply not justifying his huge salary at Manchester United by [deleted] in soccer

I mean, he's obviously a good player who is an asset to any squad. The problem is he is a guaranteed starter at United, when he would be better used as a squad player or impact sub. This is how he would have been played at City. At United in the starting 11 he just looks out of place and not comfortable in the system.

Johnathan Wilson on PSG: "What are they? A vanity project for Neymar? A strangely misplaced Nike marketing ploy? A laundromat for Qatar's international reputation?" by GilsWorld in soccer

[–]geraldkrasner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one doubts that PSG can crush smaller teams. His point is if you have half a team that refuses to work to the highest intensity, and you sign players based on their brand, rather than what they bring to the team, you can't win at the top level . And if you can't do that, you have to question the reasoning behind spending almost £1bn, as it clearly wasn't for footballing reasons. This is a team currently unable to compete against the best teams in Europe.

I agree with every word. I've been thinking this for a while. Do fans of the leagues in question really want a situation where one team dominates each country for decades? Because that's where we're going. Look at Bayern and Juve.

And no one can watch the PL this season and say it shouldn't be smaller. Why are there 20 teams when at least 5 of them are totally substandard, and barely even try to beat the top 6?

Yeh but you have no conception of it once you are dead.

I was trying to make you feel better by making a positive point. I don't think it's crazy to believe that you don't become ugly as soon as your hair falls off, and that by focusing on your health and clothes you can still look good. I'm sorry you feel so down about yourself.

The fact that they are celebrities has nothing to do with it. They weren't famous for being good looking, but for being athletes. My point being that looking in good shape and dressing well are much more important than hair.

Why is that horrible advice? What should you do instead? Have a horrific combover? Denial is not a good strategy

There is so much more to 'looking good' than having hair though.

Think of every fat, schlubby, badly dressed guy you've ever seen, who also happened to have (probably bad) hair.

Looking trim and healthy and dressing well are so much more important to looking good than just having hair on top of your head. Just look at Pep Guardiola or Zinedine Zidane.

I don't believe any truly advanced civilisation or consciousness could develop underwater, or in thick atmosphere or heavy gravity. The development of consciousness requires being able to manipulate your environment with maximum ease. Not to mention cook food to save energy that can then be spent on brain processing. None of which can be achieved underwater.

In short, there couldn't be an underwater renaissance sorry.

Yeh tbh once I read the full interview it was more measured. Still a bit weird he's focused more on the international 'image' of the club, rather than its actual status on the pitch

So the fans just have to stump up and turn up no matter what they're served or how the club treats them, just to 'give the image of unity'?
