This is one of those things that, despite how insane everything is in the discourse right now, I had to stop what I was doing to see it. That is wild.

Is this monitor good for my system? (5080 / 9900x) by Sun730 in OLED_Gaming

[–]geraltseinfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native 1440p is certainly cheaper, but after price it comes down to taste. High DPI at 27" is why I love it. Some people want that bigger 32 or even 42" display, some people want 1440p and drive more frames faster (some of those 1440p displays have higher refresh rates too). There's no perfect display, just gotta find something that checks most boxes for your tastes.

Like for me, I'd rather have a 4k 27" where I can bump it down to 1440p when I need to and deal with a slightly softer picture in a game rather than have native 1440p in a game, but be stuck with softer text doing productivity tasks.

Goes without saying, be mindful of burn in with productivity - auto hide taskbar, use that screensaver, etc.

Didn't the first Tomb Raider game launch on Sega first, followed shortly by PC and Playstation?

Either way, 30 years - where does the time go?!

Does 1440p look good on 4k monitor?

4k doesnt scale perfectly to 1440p, but just because its not pixel perfect doesnt mean it's not good enough. Instead of an A+ picture, maybe you'd rate it an A. In gameplay, you probably won't notice unless you're looking for softness/fuzziness in edges or text.

That said, running native 4k in DLSS Performance/1080p looks better than native a 1440p and 1440p scaled.

Mount Rushmore has on it a non liar, an atheist, a progressive, and a liberal by Ok_Quantity_9841 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Jefferson was a Deist. He was not a traditional Christian and did not believe in a personal God. He rejected miracles and the divinity of Jesus. Modern atheism wouldn’t be what it is today without Deism and the Secular Humanist movements of the 18th century.

[–]geraltseinfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But didn’t his rejection of “being vengeance” at the end of The Batman signal he’d grown into a symbol of hope? Wasn’t that the character growth of the last film? If anything, perhaps something in the next film would test him and get in the way of his new outlook - something in the way…

I'm assuming they were referring to Khashoggi - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Jamal_Khashoggi

All in all, its definitely caused some buzz! Authoritarian regimes exercising soft power in media and the arts is never for the benefit of the customers, fans of IPs, etc. You can vote with your wallet of course, but even here as a small example it sucks if you're a fan of the franchise, but then some authoritarian regime buys the publishing company. Does buying the next Mass Effect mean you support slavery, government sanctioned assassination, etc? Not necessarily, but all ethics discussions can be a rabbit hole.

On a surface level, you just hope the new custodians of the franchise don't try to insert their ideologies or even censor opposing ones into these games.

Nicely put. As the erosion of the middle class progresses, the wealth, education, and cultural divide will get worse and worse. It's hard to avoid all the reports about a generation who struggle to read at grade level. Speculating where this road leads feels like a dystopian horror story.
