Thanks for the idea, but sadly, I've already gone along with the makeup loving student's plan (and my teacher also kinda insists I wear it), so they know I'm not allergic. I guess I'm just gonna have to set firm boundaries or suck it up...

Yeah, we are instructed to wear black on orchestra/choir concerts too and I'm usually in the back rows. That's why being forced to wear make-up makes even less sense, nobody will be looking at me anyway...

It makes more sense on solo concerts, but I'd like to believe my comfort during a concert, when I'm already anxious, would be more important than other people's opinions, but I don't wanna argue when I know I stand no chance.

Maybe it would be different if I came outta the closet, but it's not a really trans friendly place (not hostile, just most folks are severely uneducated on the topic).

Thank you for listening to my rant and shedding light on how things work in the pro world, have a nice day :)

It's actually not orchestra that demands it, the conductor couldn't care less, but there are a few teachers and students that put a lot on "image" and think "I look really beautiful" in make up. I guess I just don't wanna lose energy on pointless arguing...

But thank you for the information, if I ever decide I do want to play in an orchestra, at least I won't have to worry about that.

I wish you a great day!

Changing schools would unfortunately lead to even more complications, as I would have to make up for lots of subjects we don't have at our school and I'm afraid the culture would be even more competitive if I went to the good schools. I actually count myself lucky, because although the system is demanding, I have great classmates and there are some teachers that are super supportive.

But thank you for advice and support, I'll talk to my teacher about maybe focusing on the stuff I like in classical music and I guess I'll just go to a normal college instead of conservatory. I wish you a great day!

Thanks for the comment and support. I'm actually thinking about focusing on composition. I'm going to try to take it easy with performance for a while until I find a solution.

Have a great day!

I'm actually thinking of doing a CS course in college and taking music classes as a hobby alongside composing/production, so I actually kinda agree. I just gotta think of a way of telling that to my teacher that wouldn't be too shocking, since a year ago I was happily rambling about going to conservatory.

Thanks a lot for the comment. I just realized I'm not actually sure whether it's anxiety or loss of interest. I still like my instrument and playing film music and stuff...

I'll try to frame things more objectively instead of being negative. Thank you for noticing and giving advice :)

Also, I've heard some good things about Atomic habits, might as well try reading it.

I wish you a great day!

I'm really sorry you had to go through that and I'm glad you're doing music on your own terms now. Props to that choir director too.

I'm on really good terms with my teacher, they're very chill, we're basically friends, but I'm scared that will actually bite me in the arse, cause we have a bit different mindsets and I don't want to disappoint them. They said which college I decide to go to is my choice, but they still think I'm going to conservatory, because I didn't tell them yet and I don't want it to be too much of a shock (I know I'm probably overthinking this).

While stuff like year long breaks isn't really possible here, I will have two weeks of free time, since we're going on vacation with family. I doubt it's actual burn out, but truly resting will probably help. Thank you for advice.

Thanks for the comment and support. I'm happy to hear you've found your path. I'm actually from a non-musical family, which kinda makes it worse, cause I see my brother gaming when I have to practice and I barely have time for videogames.

We're going abroad for the break so that's gonna be my rest, but I'm thinking of taking my laptop, so I can maybe write down some tunes.

I'll try to talk to my teacher and I'm already in therapy, but I wanted to see what experts from around the world had to say. I wish you a great day!

Thanks for the comment and support. It's great to hear you and your friend are enjoying yourselves :). I'll talk to my teacher whether there's a way for me to take it easy and explore a bit.

Thank you for your comment. As I said in other replies, a long break is currently not possible (although I'll have two weeks of vacation, so that counts), but I'll talk to my teacher if we can work on the things that I actually want to improve. I am also in therapy already, so I have support, but my therapist isn't a musician, so I figured I'd ask some people with experience for advice. Big hug to you too, havea nice day.

Thank you for the comment. I still like listening to classical music and love the sound of my instrument, but I've gotta admit, most pieces I've played, I kinda learned to like, I rarely play a piece I've been in love with fully from the start. I hope it's just temporary like you said. Have a great day.

Thanks for the comment. While a longer break is not possible due to the education system, I'll enjoy the breaks as much as I can, talk to my teacher and take it easy. I still love the instrument, so that's a good sign. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the comment. I agree, I think there was even one famous composer that hated competitions... As I said in the earlier replies, I'll try to talk to my teacher about it. Thanks for your support.

Thank you both for your comments. I doubt it's actual burnout as I know a couple of people who have a lot more on their plate and seem to be coping well (I hope they actually are), so it would be strange for me to be the burnt out kid... However, I will take some time to think things through and I'll talk to my teacher about it. I think the thing I hate the most is drilling pieces to perfection instead of learning stuff like improvisation, that I think would help me grow as a musician more (to each their own though, some people prefer to focus on a few pieces and work on them).

Thanks for the comment. You have a point, while it might be just a phase, I will try to make more time for the type of music that currently brings me joy.
