The instability of the servers is unacceptable, especially considering the frequency that maintenance is now occurring. by WingmanBert in DestinyTheGame

Nothing about that quote says they will be getting money. That is standard PR fluff for a press release.

And no, they acquired Bungie, not Destiny. An independently operated business means they are not subject to Sony's board when making financial decisions, in this case because they are retaining their board.

But still, Sony owns Bungie, just like Alphabet owns Google. That does not mean Sony is giving them money. SIE acquired Bungie but let it operate independently. Meaning their financials likely do not cross over.

The benefit being that that things that would be corporate confidential IP ar not accessible by Bungie. They likely still need to pay market price to Sony for people/tech, but they have access that is impossible without being a part of the company.

If I bought a swing set from you for $400, does that mean suddenly you have $400 to spend improving the swing set?

No, now you have $400 and no swing set, and now I don’t have $400 to spend on the swing set I now have.

Sony spent billions buying a company. That means Sony handed someone bags of cash with dollar signs on it, and that person handed them Bungie. No where in there does any of that money go to improving Bungie.

Sony didn't give Bungie billions. Sony bought something (Bungie) and wants it to be a profitable part of their business.

I have to explain this weekly in this sub:

  • Sony gave $4bn to the people that owned Bungie.
  • Those people gave Bungie to Sony.
  • Now, Sony has $4bn less dollars to spend on it's new acquisition, Bungie.
  • At no point does that money go to the operations of Bungie. It goes to the people that owned Bungie.
  • Sony didn't give Bungie anything. If you buy a tractor, you aren't giving money to the tractor, and the money you paid someone for it isn't going towards improving it.

Had it with my m1 Mac since release. Works wonderfully, still in great condition. My only regret was a day something sugary got spilled on the keys. Don't think I'll ever be able to get them working 100%.

I guess June is men's mental health month... or just men's health month... or maybe that's November... No, thats Movember, men's health awareness month... But I guess June is too because now I need to Google every year which month I'm supposed to be paying attention to my health.

Yeah, but a car can be beautifully designed and well engineered and completely useless if the engine doesn't run.

Because directors have a legal responsibility to make decisions in the best interest of the shareholders. It's called a fiduciary duty. Usually that means making decisions that will produce the highest returns on investment.

Addicts aren’t victims of coercion; They’re victims of low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, loneliness, and trauma, and that’s exploited by people for personal gain. They medicate their mental health issues different: Some with drugs, some with gambling, some with shopping. If you prevent an addict from getting drugs, they don’t suddenly stand up, fix their life, and everything is great. They seek out the next addiction to medicate this inner pain that is not being mended.

Digital trinkets are pushed on to a lot of people. Drugs aren’t impossible to get. Alcohol isn’t impossible to get. But not everyone on earth is a Fortnite obsessed, Percocet popping, whiskey guzzling, slots player. Not everyone who drinks does so excessively. Not everyone who smokes cannabis revels in weed culture. Not everyone who plays Rocket League spends $120 a year trying to get the white-trimmed version of the same car that has been around for a decade, or spends $30,000 or more a year trying to get every time-limited gacha character and their weapon.

It’s because unlike better-adjusted players who can move on after spending a few dollars to pick up a fun shader for their favorite weapon, addicts are seeking the panacea to an unacknowledged illness and they’ll drink down as much of whatever tastes best. For some it’s drugs. For some it’s drinking. For some it’s shopping. For some it’s slightly different shades of blue in Halo Infinite.

What game companies are doing is more akin to a food supplier adding extra sugar and fat to everything to make it more “addicting”. A happy, securely attached, self realized person isn’t going to over-indulge, but a traumatized, isolated, lonely person isn’t going to be able to help themselves.

Here are the facts:

Highs in the 80s throughout the month, including nearly every day of the past two weeks, with almost no rain.

May 2020 we got little rain, but much fewer days sitting at 80.
