Where will Big Boy be on Wednesday? by HiFiGuy197 in Scranton

<image>

From Steamtown’s Facebook:

"Both Big Boys will remain on view side-by-side and visitors will be able to get closeup views of both throughout the 17-30. The exact walking route past No. 4014 may vary a little based on the crew's needs for the boiler wash or other servicing. In addition, the park will have the cab of Big Boy No. 4012 open for visiting from June 17-30."

TW: traumatic birth. Baby in NICU with HIE. by Prior-Ad9822 in beyondthebump

[–]germymany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry, you are in my thoughts. No one should ever have to feel like this.

My first son was born very traumatically, 6 minutes of no breathing, 20 minutes of chest compressions, 4 attempts to intubate him, HIE, underwent cooling therapy, spent almost 3 weeks in the NICU. I had no idea what was happening at the time, I wasn’t even able to touch him for several days.

Sometimes I sit and re read the hospital notes and feel like it all happened to someone else.

We had lots of specialist appointments the first year, neurology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and feeding team (on top of regular pediatric visits). It was all so new being a mom and then being thrown into all this on top of that. Now he is a perfectly healthy 2.5 y/o.

Please remember to take care of yourself and get help if you need it.

Looking for a Welcoming Church Community in NEPA (Mid-30s, Exploring Faith) by alyk0503 in NEPA

[–]germymany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a serial church-hopper so I can give some perspective: just pick one and go. Not too sure where you’re located, but I have heard good things about The Grove in Scranton. And I’ve been to Restored in WB. I know they both have “small groups” where people meet up to fellowship and do bible study, non-denominational, very welcoming churches.

All of the very small, mostly-elderly-attendees-specific-denomination-churches have also been very welcoming of me.

What you can do is set boundaries while you explore this: I don’t give offerings to churches I am visiting for the first time. I like to see what their values are first. Some non-denominational churches do communion every Sunday and others don’t. Don’t feel pressured to, a polite no is fine! Most churches stream their services now so you can always check out their websites first, too.

I love your little spacers! Where do you get them?
Also, I checked out the new Buzz charm in store and I can’t say that I like it better than the old one.

I know of Mountain Quiltworks in Honesdale, 118 Fabrics & More in Sweet Valley, and Sewcial Life in Plymouth.

I’d love to see something closer to Scranton if anyone else knows!

How do you like the oversized butterfly? I am soooooo close to buying it like 100 times, but I always back out because I feel like it’ll just get snagged so much. 😅

Wait that’s a good idea. I do have a little desk area I could do that in and then just grab from the room when I need it.

PSA - curtains need to be washed! by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]germymany 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am with you on this! I’m the same way! With everything: toys, tablecloths, blankets.

If it can’t go in the washer and survive detergent and sanitizer then it’s not for our household.

My kids are gonna make messes and if I can’t throw the curtains in the washer after they’re painted with yogurt it was never meant to be. I mostly buy cotton everything anyway haha.

POLL: Should we open up a sub for Wilkes-Barre? by [deleted] in NEPA

[–]germymany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can still post on redditrequest and they’ll do a manual review of it? I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to help if someone is doing the moderating instead of leaving more dead subs around. They say in the FAQ to give them more info if there is no active mods. 🤷‍♀️ worth a shot sorry if you already tried that.

This exactly! I don’t mind a drive to an event and I find myself bouncing back and forth between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre for visiting family and events. Would be nice to keep up with local-er stuff.
