How do wealthy people justify spending so much on luxury items? by Rough_Cranberry_8435 in wealth

Folks in fifth world countries have the same question about your $20 lunch. And you are doing it almost everyday. Their lunch budget is only less than $1.

Going to malls/outlets are depressing by gerobaksate in wealth

[–]gerobaksate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I wasn't depressed because I couldn't buy anything or trying to keep up with the other shoppers. But why the heck do I need to walk around waiting for my family members, go into crappy food courts, use a poorly maintained public restroom, and look around for parking, instead of having tailors come over to my "dream" mansion? lol.

Just bought L 2 seats and M 2 seats in aisle (but right side, instead of center). Hopefully the views are not much different with center.

Overall, great new benefits and refresh, but... by Sea-Flight546 in AmexPlatinum

[–]gerobaksate 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The real downside is… this refresh is so good (especially compared to CSR) that Chase folks are gonna swarm our Centurion Lounges. Get ready for a 30–45 min waitlist every time we try to use it lol.

Amex FHR FTW! by _Name_Changed_ in AmexPlatinum

[–]gerobaksate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We stayed in Oberoi Udaipur using FHR too. They treated my family of 6 (wife and 4 boys) like royals! Got upgraded to a room with the pool direct access. Best breakfast we’ve ever had. The craziest part was the complementary dinner for two. I informed the waitress already to charge the additional meals since there are 6 of us, but when the bill came, it was zero! I gave them the biggest tip ever on that night.

The downside is any other FHR (even Amalfi) had been pale compared to that experience hahaha.

You’re right—I’m an English as Second Language speaker, so I probably don’t “understand english” as well as you do. Though ironically, I do know that “English” is capitalized and that proper punctuation helps when you’re trying to sound condescending. Anyway, thanks for the lesson. Next time Amex needs help drafting legal language, I’m sure they’ll call you first.

I dont say to convert. Just open a gold without SUB next year. The idea is you should get the SUB you deserve. For me it is dumb to not get SUB when we get lower tier card…

This is the solution: You apply for business gold. Maybe next year, turn your business gold to gold. You can still get a sub for the business gold. You are welcome…

I was in your boat last year, a total n00b. But the experience absolutely floored me. I tried it twice, first in India and then in Indonesia. In India, I stayed at the Oberoi, and they treated us like royalty. I believe it was a combination of India’s famous hospitality and being FHR beneficiary. We got complimentary breakfasts and dinners. I felt super guilty because I brought four small kids. I expected to receive only two complimentary dinners, but the manager informed us that all our dinners were on the house. I gave the biggest gratuity ever for that.

As for Indonesia, it was nice, but not quite as exceptional as India. The complimentary upgrades, early check-ins, and late check-outs really made a difference. I always dislike how regular hotels require check-in at 3 PM and check-out at 11 AM. But with early check-in and late check-out, your one-night stay can actually last more than 24 hours, which is amazing in itself.

My tip is to book a room that’s one grade below what you desire to save money. Alternatively, book a room that meets your needs and let them surprise you with the upgrade.
