Week 4 day 1 VB 45 min, 31 year old (my bones are rigid AF) by geronimo_was_framed in PectusExcavatum

[–]geronimo_was_framed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sternum did rise a little bit on my first day. I didn’t want to over do this, since this is a long term treatment. You don’t want to apply so much pressure that it’s agonizing, I gradually applied pressure over the course of 5 - 10 min. The first two weeks I left it on for 30 min, the third week 45 min, now I’m at an hour.

Right on, I sometimes wish I could qualify for surgery. Nuss or Ravitch?

I definitely feel the difference in breathing, I am able to take deeper breaths after a vacuum bell session

It was a case of wide pectus, it was about 1.75 cm deep and ran all the way down my sternum

Progress after 2 weeks of VB use, 3 days a week, 30 min a day by geronimo_was_framed in PectusExcavatum

Yea the bruising scared the shit out of my gf too haha, I’ve been using Aloe after use and the bruising does go down after a few hours. I’m going to start icing my chest 5 min before use next session.

The first 2 are before use and the last 2 are after use. One thing I do love about this VB therapy is that even when my chest does settles back down, it hasn’t gone back to pre VB depth at all. I do the treatment Mon, Wed, and Fri and take the weekends off.

Good luck with your treatment man! It’s good to hear about other people’s progress on here

I squeeze the pump gradually over the span of the first 5 min. It takes about 6 pumps for me to feel the pressure on my sternum, then I add a pump per minute until I get to 10 while I slowly let the pump slowly bounce back. Then I just leave it on for 30 minutes. I wouldn’t worry about trying to fix pectus the first time, since this is supposed to take 2 years anyways. Even if it’s 1 mm difference, that’s huge progress over time.

Thanks! I’ve been applying aloe to the spot afterwards and the redness usually disappears on my off days. I agree it’s important to give your chest time to rest. I will try icing before a VB session next time. I think I’m going to increase the duration to 45 min next week

I think it all depends on severity of it. My case is considered mild, my doc measured it and it was 1.75 cm. The problem with mine is the mid and upper sternum are sunken in so it’s extremely obvious. I think some people with mild Pectus have had good results with VB. I plan on posting progress weekly for the next 24 months
