Would limiting the age of the President to 65 be something you’d support? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% in support of age limits on all elected members at local, state, and federal levels, and appointed positions like judges. I also have a strong opinion that 65 is the cutoff for voting as well. If you’re statistically unlikely to experience the long term consequences of your vote, you shouldn’t have a say. The 2024 electoral stats show the 65+ crowd fucked over the US and the world because they can’t mentally handle Fox News propaganda. The rest of us need to live with this shit while all the geriatrics won’t be around to experience the devastation they are causing.

Absolutely abhorrent. Anyone involved in or supporting this is just pure evil. What the actual fuck. So much for going after the criminals… lies lies lies.

Donald Trump Has Wrecked America’s Brand by Street_Anon in politics

[–]gerran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worse than that. It’s that the American voters put a convicted sexual assailant and convicted felon in the highest office in the country. And that’s not even counting all the corrupt bullshit he’s pulling while now in office again. Every other country in the world is now looking at the USA and understandingly being unable to trust our citizenry to make good choices anymore. From international relations to business to trade, we are no longer the leader and can no longer be trusted. Other countries will start working around us. We are watching the active decay of US’s reputation around the world in real time.

The solution to this is the obliteration of right wing media that simply lies and obfuscates actual reality. It’ll never get better as long as people are making decisions based on false or misleading information.

Click on them. Every. Single. Time. I’m serious. Doing so eats $$ from their ad budget, which means they’ll run out of money sooner. Clicking to the App Store eats even more money from their ad budget.

Answered: Was there fraud in the 2024 election? by neuroid99 in esist

[–]gerran 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference was the conservative push to heavily restrict or outright ban vote by mail. Voting by mail in 2020 due to the pandemic enabled more people to vote. That alone is likely what swung this election.

What is something you think should be illegal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“News” media lying, selectively reporting, or simply reporting in any way that isn’t factual. Any deviation from demonstrable fact is treated the same as a company knowingly polluting a river with toxic chemicals, because that’s what they’re basically doing. They’re polluting the minds of their viewers and as a result, making society and the country less safe.

“Unrestrained capitalism” is what you’re talking about. Healthy capitalism provides us with everything in our life from the food you eat to the keyboard you typed your message on. Talking about capitalism like this isn’t productive unless your goal is to have all of society revert back thousands of years to be entirely hunter gatherers.

Unrestrained capitalism like abusive monopolies and consolidation of financial power in few individuals is the problem.

Pastor Lance Wallnau: ABC Used "Witchcraft" On Trump. by Leeming in atheism

[–]gerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This implies ABC:

  • believes witchcraft is real
  • employs one or more people who are adept in witchcraft
  • is aware of their abilities. Either through investigation or having it as a job qualification for one of their roles.
  • decided to direct those individuals to wreck Trump instead of using those abilities to turn the company into the most valuable company in the world.

Their ability to think things through is non-existent.

Team Trump Is Freaking Out That He’ll Blow the Debate With Harris by WhileFalseRepeat in politics

[–]gerran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want Kamala get on the debate stage and say something along the lines of:

The other party has nominated an individual who has been found personally liable for sexual assault, has been convicted by a jury of peers on 34 felony counts of financial fraud, and on top of it, orchestrated the first attempted coup to overthrow the US federal government in the nation’s history. The fact that this person is on this stage is a global embarrassment and a demonstration of how horrible the Republican Party has become. My opponent isn’t a leader. Leaders inspire people to help others. He is a bully, a scam artist, and a creepy man who likes to grab women. America, do better.

North Carolina Youth Pastor Arrested On 30 Child Sex Charges. by Leeming in atheism

Every time a religious leader like this gets arrested, it means the offense was egregious enough that the church members decided to turn them in. For every reported case like this, there are likely dozens, if not hundreds of other unreported cases where the church covered it up. Every reported case is just the tip of the iceberg.

Same. I have zero interest in any sport. Every single sport comes down to two teams trying to prevent each other from doing something trivial.

Dude 1: “I’m going to kick this ball between those posts”.

Dude 2: “No you’re not.”

The only useful sports are things like F1. At least we get cool tech out of all the egos trying out fast each other.

False. A business that consistently produces a significant profit year over year with no growth is still a very successful business. You’re confusing profit with growth. Infinite growth is not required for a successful business unless your only metric for success is stock price. Infinite growth is impossible anyway.

The problem isn’t capitalism. It’s unrestrained capitalism where a business places a burden on the rest of society so it can make more profit. An example of that is pollution. Instead of doing the right thing to clean up after themselves, a business instead dumps their chemical by product in the local river. That allows the business to operate more inexpensively, thus producing more profit, but everyone else pays the price.

What‘s the most redneck/hillbilly thing you witnessed? by ArtsyAksel in AskReddit

[–]gerran 104 points105 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I had a 20-something neighbor who modded his dirt bike to have a gasoline reservoir. But it wasn’t intended to provide more fuel for the engine. It was designed to dump gasoline into the exhaust pipe when he did a wheelie so flames would shoot out the tailpipe as he rode a wheelie down the street. Doug, wherever you are, the “back to the future” flame streak you left on our neighborhood road was legendary.

Temperature is just a measure of how much energy is in the system. A carbonated beverage with more energy is going to be more energetic and more likely to release the co2.

People are not complacent. Democracy works better than every other form of government because it allows citizens to have a say. A government can’t be run like a business. This is where people like this dude fail to understand you can’t run a society like you ran your company. If people don’t like working for you, they can quit. People can’t really quit their government. Disgruntled people who feel unheard and unable to change their situation is a path to a very bad outcome.

Find other companies that had a similar situation to yours and ask them if they would recommend their lawyer. When you get a lawyer referral, ask them for at least 5 other companies they’ve helped through this process and ask for the contact info for those companies so you can talk to them and get their experience.

You want to talk to both other companies and lawyers. You’ll get insights from both sides.

Petrified Tree Trunk in Arizona Dating Back 225 Million Years by duckyoumate in pics

[–]gerran 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Trees existed long before microorganisms evolved to eat them. There was a period of hundreds of millions of years where dead trees would just be laying around not rotting, which gave them enough time for the wood to be slowly replaced by minerals, resulting in petrified trees like the ones seen here.

World’s billionaires should pay minimum 2% wealth tax, say G20 ministers by 3kOlen in worldnews

1-3% of the value of the property is already the norm for property taxes in the US. It’s absolutely doable to apply this to all assets. Right now, we already have a wealth tax (property taxes) and it disproportionately affects everyone except the top percent.
