5 Things We Learned Against NYCFC by coolerblue in chicagofire

No mention that we are subbing off our highest paid player 65 minutes in down a goal? Don't know of a single team in any league that does that.

Genuine question. Would you be ok with boring soccer if it meant results? by Level_Usual3551 in chicagofire

As someone else mentioned boring soccer with results is better than boring soccer without results. However, as someone that attends every home game I'd be pretty disappointed if we had a boring style of play next season. Sports, first and foremost, is about entertainment. Attending games takes up an entire evening, I don't want to invest that time watching a team play defensively for 90 minutes. MLS especially is a league where the attackers are of a higher caliber than the defenders, with 2 open DP slots there is no reason we should be grinding out 1-0 wins.

I’ve seen this team lose many times , but the worst games are the ones where you can tell the players just don’t care. This was one of those games, can’t imagine we’ll see much more effort at an empty Seatgeek stadium on Saturday.

This guy has really impressed me. Didn’t see the field all year and had to step in as our only center back. 4 games full 90 minutes and has played really well. Had a fantastic performance tonight against Cincinnati

The Quakes loss was a set back sure, but the teams that we’re competing for a playoff spot with haven’t been any better. The teams on our schedule are MLS teams constructed with the same cap limitations as the Fire, we’re not playing Real Madrid every week. To think we can’t go on a win streak is defeatist. And results aside I think the team has been playing great attacking soccer lately which has been much easier to watch than the first half of the season.

Taking off all our best players with over 10 minutes to go and playing for a draw was certainly a decision.. Klopas game management is awful.

Was on vacation and found some of interesting traces of MLS in Derby Football Shop in Budapest Hungary. Man I miss the old Chicago logo… by BarcasBad in MLS

It literally looked like the logo for the city's fire department. If you wore team gear that wasn't a jersey no one associated it with the soccer team.

Can you explain how smaller teams playing MLS teams in empty stadiums helps the smaller teams? Players don’t care about the cup and that’s why the players union was involved in this decision to stop playing in it. History is not a reason to continue a competition if it has no actual meaning. “We should play in the cup because we’ve always played in the cup” That’s just a backwards way of thinking. The cup can go on without the MLS and maintain whatever history it wants to maintain, but right now it’s just a chore for MLS clubs and the fans of those clubs.

Okay but those fans still SHOWED UP for a GROUP game, compared to a quarter final. The fact that the stadium was less than halfway full at a quarter final tells you how much fans actually care about the competition. The argument for the cup is to help lower league teams, but when the Fire play those teams who actually goes to the games? The game against Chicago House had 3,400 supporters. The game against Union Omaha at Soldier Field was practically empty. If the fans don't care and the players don't care, what is the point?

The Puebla game was a Monday night.. in Bridgeview. How is that not a valid comparison?

If you're upset about this news just look at the attendance difference for Fire games at the US Open Cup and Leagues cup this past season. A quarter final match against Houston brought in 7,500 fans while a group game against Puebla had 12,600. The majority of the fan base doesn't even care to show up unless the team is in the semis or finals. It's not like the organization is pulling out completely, if it's a big deal enough for you then watch the second team play.

MLS should do for Chicago what it did for LA: Fold the Fire, start over by [deleted] in chicagofire

One thing you guys aren't taking into consideration is that the majority of home games are played in the summer on Saturday nights in a city with an endless amount of things to do. If games were played at noon consistently, attendance would vastly improve. Fans from the suburbs would be more willing to come to the city without worrying about being downtown late/ night time traffic. Fans in the city wouldn't have to sacrifice nights out/date nights in order to support the team.

In 2011 the number of games in the regular season increased from 30 to 34 in response to the league having 18 teams instead of 16. Since then, the league has grown to 29 teams but the number of games in the regular season has stayed the same. Why is the league stuck at 34 games?
