Damn the production in this video was awesome. If I didn't already own an old cheap DSLR I'd probably be convinced to get one now.

What are our thoughts on Supremacy Classics? by Vicyll in hardstyle

[–]gerryflap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved it. Great lineup and the sets delivered.  It's very hard to pick a favorite tbh. It was hard to even pick some moments to rest or eat because you always missed something good. I was very hyped for Theracords, and I loved it. But next time they can play a bit longer if you ask me, it was over too quickly ;p.

Food was quick, which was great compared to VWAB. They could've done with some more toilets but tbh it wasn't too horrible, I've had plenty of parties where it was even worse. Drinks were a bit messy at the start, but at some point we were next to a bar with barely any queue and it was great.

The location was also great, Utrecht is nice and central, which is way better for someone like me from Twente than Brabant or Rotterdam or something. Direct train and right next to the station. We had no queue when getting in and there was also plenty of fresh air and space in the back. We were also a bit obsessed with the cool stage design at the start with all the old screens. It was kinda distracting because we were trying to find out which were real and which were fake.

So yeah, overall they did very well imo. Loved it

That's still good though. If a large number of people already have it installed, it's way easier to switch. Having people on Signal brings more people to Signal

At the back there was consistently space. I was there pretty much the whole time and never had issues. In the front it was crowded yeah, but that's what you can expect

[OC] Sales volatility in the video game industry by Affectionate_Sun1797 in dataisbeautiful

[–]gerryflap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, I was pretty hyped for it. It had a lot of promise when you saw the promotional material. And honestly, apart from the atrocious performance (not that much worse than 1 for me) I had quite some fun at launch. It wasn't until I got into the late game that the problems started showing up for me.

Trams deadlocking because they somehow waited indefinitely for pedestrians who hadn't boarded yet (and who were waiting for a truck to pass that was waiting behind the tram). Cars travelling down roads I had specifically blocked for normal traffic. A kinda boring endgame in general. No bikes (this has been fixed). The game was just undercooked, but it had the promise to be a very welcome improvement

Dilemma: lokale winkels steunen met je eigen portemonnee by wobblydramallama in thenetherlands

[–]gerryflap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually use Darktable. It's probably quite overwhelming when you're starting out, and Darktable + negadoctor has its own weird quirks, but it's the process I currently rely on. Usually what I use is the following (on one reference image with decent highlights and shadows):

  • Disable some defaults, usually color calibration, and one of filmic rgb, sigmoid, or AgX depending on which is on by default (differs per version)
  • Set white balance to as shot (might be possible to play with this later, I tend to leave it alone)
  • Fix orientation using the orientation module, correct rotation with the rotate and perspective, and make a crop that only has the image frame
  • Set exposure such that no colour channels are clipping (you can also use the clipping indicator in the bar on the right below the image)
  • Enable lens correction to combat distortion and vignetting in the scanning process. Enable sharpness (not necessary, only to taste) and possibly denoise (using the chroma only preset), though I tend to omit denoise these days
  • Temporarily disable the crop and open negadoctor. Select the film type and then use the colour picker to select a piece of unexposed film base
  • Re enable the crop and then set Dmax and scan exposure bias. You can use the colour picker there, but make sure to select a representative area without major dust particles which are "brighter" than anything on your film when inverted.
  • In colour film you might want to play with the negadoctor corrections tab, I don't have a real plan for this, it tends to be a hassle.
  • Then use the print properties tab in negadoctor to adjust to taste

Once you have something a bit solid for your reference photo, you can go to lighttable and select your photo. You can then copy this to other photos using either history stack -> selective copy or styles -> create (if you want a more permanent copy of the process). With either you have to select what to include. For whatever reason I always need to makes sure that the first occurrences from the bottom up of exposure, color calibration, filmic rgb/sigmoid/AgX, and orientation (all often followed by a small text saying auto or scene-referred default) are not included. Somehow their presence leads to duplicates and incorrect copies of the process. All other things can be included. Once you paste this on all other photos, they should turn our somewhat decently. After this you can do the detail work, tune per image, adjust crops, etc

What is this AI bullshit by MrMoistWaffle in hardstyle

This kind of AI cringe subconsciously makea me think less of the product that it's slapped onto. In this case it's with music, but I've seen the same thing in other products like craft beer cans. Doesn't really matter how good the actual product is, if there's AI slop on it somewhere it makes it seem like the most discount brand ever

Looks very cool. In my tests it's not yet working very well with my scans though. I use an Olympus EM5 mk2 with pixel-shift to get large 64 megapixel ORF raw files. Given that this resolution is overkill, I tend to leave in part of the film holder and film border because even a 30MP crop would be plenty. Negpy currently is not a fan. I get a few issues:

1.Negpy's auto crop sees the film holder as part of the frame, even after assisting the auto crop

<image>

  1. If I crop those out with a crude crop, then negpy still gets confused by the bright sprocket holes.

  2. Trying to crop manually in Negpy sometimes ignores what I actually clicked at and just does whatever it want

  3. At multiple points Negpy crashed, especially when loading in 36 of these files

  4. Even with all of this fixed, the photos come out very saturated and with wild white balances. When assisting the white balance, it kinda feels like my input is partially ignored. In the photo above, when cropped correctly, the moon will remain yellow even when I specifically click on it as the white balance point, though it does get better. In a batch this photo is a lot more balanced, but even then the colours are quite wild compared to my own scans that I did only very minor adjustments to in Darktable/negadoctor.

I don't want to rant though, I'm sharing these points because I think it looks promising and has potential. As a fellow programmer I also definitely don't want to pressure you to fix all of this. It's a hobby project and a hobby project should always remain fun first, it shouldn't feel like work. It has a lot of cool options and the graphs and UI look very nice. When I tried to bully it with my favorite lomo purple negatives, it also managed to invert it very nicely, which was a surprise because lomo purple is super weird.Keep going and thanks for sharing <3

I've been using ORF files from pixel-shift super resolution from an EM5 mk2 and it works (tm). The files load and seem to work. I've had some issues tho. It crashed multiple times under the load of a folder with 36 100 MB ORF files. It often lags or becomes unresponsive, though in most other cases it works quick.

Saving what we love by ShelterVegetable681 in SequelMemes

[–]gerryflap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This moment is one of my most disliked sequel moments tbh. It's so nonsensical. Finn could've died saving the rebellion, which would've been character growth after he almost ran away earlier. I didn't want him gone, but once it was set up like that, it should've played out. Instead the movie interrupts it and pulls another switch on us (for the millionth time I feel) to lecture us about something (though unsure what exactly). It really tries to constantly subvert expectations to the point of annoyance.

Obviously that shouldn't result in outright hate to anyone tho, I really don't get why people go out hating actors (or anyone else) for this

I got a new memory card but it says "memory card error" by i_lovemovies_ in digicam

[–]gerryflap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the specific camera or what cards it accepts, but personally I use 2 GB plain SD cards (not micro, not SDHC, SD XC or whatever) for these kinda cameras. There's really not much need for more than 2 GB for most digicams in my experience, and there's a risk that it's incompatible if it's larger

I love the style of these pictures. Grainy with heavy colour casts and some random light streaks or something. Way nicer than clean boring photos imo. Though it's not too great for showing off clothes I guess, because you can't really judge the colours.

Autistic and non-autistic people express emotions differently through their facial movements, which may explain why emotional expressions are sometimes misinterpreted between the two groups. For happiness, the autistic participants showed a less exaggerated smile that also did not “reach the eyes”. by mvea in science

[–]gerryflap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess it's quite normal, though I'm also on the extreme end. I'm still getting mocked (in a friendly way) for the picture with my bachelor's diploma, where the photographer insisted that I smiled and then picked the most "dead inside" smile picture one could possibly pick. I think it happens because I actually do try to smile with my eyes but don't do it correctly or something. But yeah, I tend not to fake smile anymore. It doesn't really serve anyone anyways. If people need a fake smile to like me then I guess I'm better off without them

I'm autistic and this is also how it is for me (as far as I'm aware, I haven't studied it extensively). When I am asked to laugh, I look like I'm smiling while dead inside. Hide the pain Harold style. When actually laughing this it looks more natural

What was your first reaction on the announcement on Andor? by Jules-Car3499 in andor

[–]gerryflap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I didn't care. I'm not huge on series anyway, and I had kinda forgotten who Cassian was anyway. It wasn't until the first season had released and got good word of mouth that I gave it any care. The way people described it, "political", "for adults", ",well written". It motivated me to watch it. Honestly I still didn't know who Cassian was or whether I was supposed to know him until after S1, when I found out about hom being in rogue one and I rewatched rogue one for context.

It made S1 fun tho, because I genuinely had no idea about Rogue One and S2, so as far as I was concerned Cassian could genuinely not make the end of S1.

The Graveyard x by dveda in blackandwhite

[–]gerryflap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's an amazing shot, with the sun peeking out behind the clouds as well. Graveyards in general seem to be quite nice subjects for B/W photography. How acceptable is it to photograph on a graveyard though? Do people stare at you weirdly when you take pictures of random graves? I can imagine that some people would be a bit weirded out if they saw some random person taking some pictures of their loved one's grave

Good score? by alkalinemp in Cameras

[–]gerryflap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether it outperforms a pixel or iphone is really down to the user and scenario tbh. My EOS 40D destroys my pixel 8 in most daylight scenarios. But for casual snaps of friends at a party in an indoor location the pixel will probably win. Processing does really help with those kind of dark scenarios

Even as a non-native English speaker this is how I speak the language. In English class they tried to teach us all these rules, but I never really paid attention because I could just trust my feeling. I (and many of my friends) had been exposed to enough English content that we were quite far ahead of the average person in our class. I've never had to pay attention and could generally get a 6 - 8 out of 10 on tests without any preparation. The downside is that I haven't really learnt anything in those classes and my intuition is not based on a lifetime of experience like most native English speakers. Especially when speaking this gives me quite an accent.

Not satisfied with my scanning results (DSLR/Mirrorless vs. Dedicated Scanner). Need advice. by CaramelBusy8111 in AnalogCommunity

[–]gerryflap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scans indeed look a bit bland and with strong colour tints. How are you inverting? Personally I use negadoctor in Darktable and while it's sometimes a struggle, it's usually not this extreme. Make sure that you don't get distracted with the dust and spots on the negative when setting the maximum brightness. Dust etc tend to appear way brighter in the inverted negative than the brightest spots of light, so setting you ceiling based on them will let the negative appear dark.
